100/100Entertaining In Every AspectContinue on AniListJagaaaaaan is a story that you might find similar to popular works like Tokyo Ghoul and Parasyte, it is undoubtedly inspired, but is just different enough to tell a compelling story on its own accompanied with gorgeous artwork. The concept seems strange at first, and the frogs might put some readers off, but it's important to suspend your disbelief and experience the story with an open-mind.
Story:
The story follows Shintarou Jagasaki, a neighborhood police officer who is mistreated and in his line of work and is bored of his repetitive, predictable life. One day, frogs rain from the sky that can jump into people and give them abilities based on their deepest, inner desires and turning them into monsters. At face value, the story seems very simple, but it quickly branches off that structure quite early on, and every arc feels very different from the other, never sticking to a repetitive formula. The story is brilliant in showcasing how people are controlled by their desires, how an individual's wants can change and evolve throughout time and how people react when faced directly with these desires. Muneyuki Kaneshiro is one of the greatest authors in the industry.Characters:
The characters in a manga about desires obviously have to be interesting. Clashing ideologies and interesting mindsets are shown throughout characters. The MC has one of the best growth and developments in the whole series, it's very, very visible too. Characters react and handle their newfound abilities in lots of interesting ways. It's difficult for me to explain about the characters without spoilers, I'll go into detail below.Art:
One the first things you'll notice about Jagaaaaaan is the art. It has clean, detailed artwork, every character has a different, interesting and attractive look to them. Double-Page spreads are filled with details, clean lines and shading. The action and momentum are clear and the panel composition makes the manga flow extremely smoothly, making it easy to read.SPOILER TERRITORY -----------------------------------------------------------------
Although there are alot of controversial shock factor and plot points in Jagaaaaaan, specifically Robahata, it is not without value or purpose. Robahata's boredom and lack of interest after achieving his desire evolves him as a character, showing him that his "desire" for sex was completely meaningless without actual connection and genuine love. His character even reaches a turning point where he realizes his mistakes and tries to redeem himself, but the story ultimately punishes him for his actions, which is understandable.
Another interesting character is Yadori, a character who's mindset I personally connect with. He has the mindset of how there are main characters and side characters in the world. Some people get alot of spotlight, this could be based on looks, status, etc. and some people are like extras you see in a movie, meaningless and boring lives. The thing is, these extras have lives, they have their own stories but are in the long run, far less interesting and "meaningful" then "main characters".
Jagasaki at chapter 1 and chapter 100 show a clear distinct different, turning a complete 180 on his desires. From hating the simple, happy, predictable life with his fiance, to craving it with Belle. He also has very interesting ideas on what it means to carry out "Justice", because who is a person to decide on how true justice is supposed to be carried out. This mindset was touched upon in the HHH arc and more fleshed out in the S.K.A.T arc.
END OF SPOILERS----------------------------------------------------------------------
In conclusion, Read Jagaaaaaan.

100/100Your Darkest Desires Shape Who You AreContinue on AniListA dark, gory and action packed manga which will keep you gripped from the very first chapter Shoot Em Up!!! An Inticing Main Plot
Jagaaaaaan's plot revolves around the Jagasaki, a tired and bored police officer who just wants some action in his life. One day a bunch of frogs rain from the sky, entering into human bodies; causing them to turn into monstous fractured humans based on their desires. Jagasaki gets infected himself but isn't infected with a frog, but a tadpole allowing him to use the powers of a fractured monster without becoming fractured himself.
Now teamed with a talking Owl, he makes the choice to hunt and kill every fractured human in his city.
The story is captivating and I was hooked from the first 4 pages and I just couldn't stop reading. The pacing and details between each and every chapter are just amazing. The action ramps up quite intensely and soothes out to give you a break from all the chaotic violence, before instantly kicking you right back in. It's a rollercoaster of a ride that doesn't stick to one formula, but branches out to explore multiple themes.
Every Character Is Interesting
All the characters in Jagaaaaaan are interesting, they each have their own unique personalities and desires along with backstories that make you understand their goals and you relate to them and their struggles. You see how the develop from their intial interatctions into later chapters where they change entirely; mostly including Jagasaki who is in constant dilemmas.
Artwork
Artwork of Jagaaaaaan is unqiue and interesting, the detail in every panel really pops out to you, whether that be in the intense action fights or the calm collecting moments between the characters. You can really see the Mangaka has put his time and effort into creating a very detailed scene through his imagery.
Overall if you love gore action packed manga, with an inticing story that will hook you and loveable characters, then PLEASE give Jagaaaaaan a read I'm very sure you will enjoy it!!!

86/100Your desires control more of you than you thinkContinue on AniListFirst review don't judge, gonna try things out more and more everyday.
The story of Jagaaan has taught me a lot things. The actual history between me and Jagaaan was so damn trippy. I would pick it up and drop just as fast, but that's not what we are here to talk about. Jagaaan is such an amazing story when it comes to fight direction and storytelling. Muneyuki Kaneshiro shows his strength when it comes to developing a power system so intertwined with their characters. Each character has their own unique trait to them and none look alike. Another strong suit of this manga is the art from Kensuke Nishida. He clearly shows the action and direction in fights through each page. Do NOT get me started on the character designs they both were cookin up. The power system in the manga is weird at first in the beginning and had a little loophole. BUT LORD did further down the story it developed itself into an actual power system about how deep your true desires are and how they evolve and strengthen overtime. I'm not going to go into the details about stuff like that because I want you to experience that for yourself. The story itself splits itself into about 4 major arcs(prolly more but this what i think). The intro arc is really informative about everything the story is about to get into. The only thing wrong with the intro arc is that it is very campy and feels quite rushed but that's just me(trust me JUST ME). The second major arc is the triple H arc. This the arc that definitely foreshadowed me of how the rest of the story was going to go. To keep it short and simple good arc to introduce people like the main character and how their ideologies collide and how deep their desires are and how intertwined they are with their personalities. The third major arc is the Team S.K.A.T. arc. This is the arc where it really got me hooked on the story and the whole premise of the story. Now this mf went crazy on character development and on the story in general. He got me fucked up with mini arcs in this one. I think the simple word to put on this arc as a whole is “damn”. The next arc where shit starts to pick up is called the Deader Land arc. Now I think this was peak Jagaaan where everything just made sense and every twist and fight was so exciting. The stakes were all high and felt there were actual risks. BUT I do have some things that I dislike that I would like to point out. At times it does feel fast paced and feel like there is a little and i mean a LITTLE plot armor but other than that i loved this arc (its my favorite arc). The final arc of the series is called Dark Hero of Justice. Shit gets crazy and I mean crazy. Everything went down like crazy, and so many character peaks happened and I sure as hell loved it. They way the final conflict that happened at the end of the novel was absolute heat and was interesting on how someone can show so many ideologies and complexes in a manga. This manga has taught me so many things about my own desires and introduced me to a lot of ideologies. I loved this manga and so glad I stuck with it. If you're reading this and got this far thank you but, please give it a chance you will definitely take something away from it. Give it a chance. (:
