100/100A robot trying to find his objectiveContinue on AniListOrigin is the story of a robot trying to understand his objective. The objective that his creator, his father give to him, “Have a proper life”
Origin it’s a good story with great art despite his plot not being something so original, but the characters are just incredible, it’s a manga that even if you don’t like complicated stories or just want some fights and good drawings, it’s the perfect manga for you, but first, let’s talk about the plot.
Basically USA wanted robots, and a company started to make them for USA, more specifically a guy named Tanaka, he created a robot named Origin but it wasn’t that advanced, it was like a model but Tanaka loved that robot. Then he created other 7 robots, but with the appearance of a human. The factory was burned and Tanaka died with Origin next to him, but before he died, he talked to Origin and he say “have a proper life” Origin take it as an objective. Meanwhile the other 7 robots manege to escape and hide in the city and one of them started to have emotions so he became the leader of the group. The group of robots needed money and other things, so they started to kill people. After the accident in the factory Origin also started to hide in the city and he made a new body for himself, with the appearance of a human. And the story continues with him fighting this robots, hiding and having a job because he doesn’t have money. Some time later he met a girl a girl named Hirose, and there. The plot is quite original but it really doesn’t have anything that makes you think “wow, this is revolutionary” but after the story advance it just gets better and better.
The art in this manga is just amazing, almost every panel in the fights can be a wallpaper, seriously it’s beautiful. Also the story is well accompanied by a good comedy, but this are just minor details, the best part about this story are the characters.
Almost every character have a reason to do what they do, also how the robots develop and tries to find their objective or starts to have emotions without noticing it, it’s what make me keep reading instead of the battles. The reason of why we develop emotions it’s because the environment evolves into something complicated and we can no longer survive with just instinct, that’s why we develop emotions. Origin thought about the final words of his father as nothing more than an objective, just a program, numbers, the way he tries to find out about his objective it’s impressive, but the final words of his father mean “have a happy life”, it was not an objective, it was the petition of Tanaka to his beloved creation. Origin find out but he couldn’t accomplish that objective if he has no emotions, but the death of Hirose was the thing that make the environment of Origin so complicated, because Hirose was something that Origin appreciated, and that’s how he have his first emotion, anger. At this point every robot starts to have emotions, even if they are simple, like Shin, he starts to feel pleasure having sex with others robots or humans, and because of those emotions, they start to fail and die, it’s a bit ironic, the thing that’s supposed to make them survive in a complicated environment it’s what makes them die, it’s what makes them betray their comrades and the most ironic part is that the leader, the first robot with emotions, it’s the most childish of all. He doesn’t have complicated emotions like love, like what Son or Origin feels, he’s just angry, angry because his father created him, angry because he have to live in a world full of sadness, the only thing that made him kill all those people, was because he was angry towards his dad, he’s nothing but a child, he locked himself in his own world because he think the external world it’s depressing and dangerous. All this things may sound simple because it’s basically a resume, but it’s actually deep and not just the robots have a reason to act like that, but also Hirose have a reason to love Origin and at the same feel like she doesn’t deserve to be happy, Tanaka have a reason to create those robots and that’s what makes me love Origin, every character have a reason and a development to be what they are and who they would be.
I see some people saying it has a bad ending, but actually it’s a good one, Origin could complete his objective by being happy and help other people, I don’t know what they expected.
Well, basically Origin it’s a good manga and one of the best I read and it’s weird to see a manga that is deep but it actually can be enjoyed without pay attention to the deep meanings and just enjoy the fights and art. Overall, It’s a masterpiece and if someone read this review before reading the manga, please read the manga, even if you know some things because of this review it’s an experience that you shouldn’t miss.
