50/100We've gone full circle, everyone. (Fuck your character development!)Continue on AniList__[ SPOILERS AHEAD. ]__ From its earliest chapters, we all got absorbed by the drama Natsuo went through as he figured out his romantic relationship between his older sister and former teacher, Hina, and his younger sister and virginity-taker (if I could have found a less insulting word, I would have used it by now), Rui. Filled with common manga tropes (appearance of characters that solely exist to drive the plot forward, absurd events resolved by its equally absurd solutions, plot twists that eventually get overtaken by an even bigger plot twist), it's a no-frills formula in developing a chaotic fanbase that argues over every minor detail of its chapters. Yet this deviates from its predecessors through its relentless obsession over having too many dramatic revelations that it's never really given a moment to breathe. And because of this, everyone suffers.
First, let's get this out of the way: I have rooted for Rui as endgame, yet from the last chapters it seems like it won't be happening anytime soon. So I apologize if some of my anger shows throughout the review.
Rui is the type of character that everyone roots for as she goes through major character development throughout the series: from finding her calling in life as a gourmet chef to becoming the mother of Natsuo's child, it's understandable that many find her Natsuo's suitable partner. Yet from the start, a single doubt has kept on persisting throughout: an inferiority complex against her older sister Hina. The simple thought of being Natsuo's rebound or living with the guilt of taking away her older sister's happiness has led her doubt to destroy chapters of development and leaving her back at square one.
Hina, on the other hand, is the type of character that everyone fantasizes for, but knows will never happen. It's perhaps why those on this side base their arguments over whatever hidden detail or premonition they could gather from other chapters. Her flaw: a sense of maturity, and the inability to see Natsuo as an equal. As their relationship started as teacher-student, a burden is placed on Hina to be more responsible, one that carries through even as they get old. From the guilt brought on by Tanabe stabbing Natsuo to singlehandedly protecting the scandalous relationship they had, it's a trait that has led to very confusing and frustrating developments.
Finally, we come to Natsuo, the guy these two sisters go crazy for. His flaw might be the worst one of them all: his inability to decide. Well, it's the type of decision that's more long-term. As the story progresses, the sister's acts of professing their feelings have gotten bigger and bigger that it leaves Natsuo switching between both girls in this game of tug-of-war: Oh, Rui confesses when Hina's gone? Looks like I'll have to accept your feelings, even though I could just reject them and decide on committing to my true love! Oh, Hina suddenly needs someone to watch over her? Sorry we had to go through so much relationship development, only to be overshadowed by this horrible event that pushes me into realizing this feeling I kept buried for years!
Many have found several reasons to be frustrated by the latest developments, yet the one I choose to emphasize on would be the flaws of our main characters, and even with all their revelations and developments, it's this flaw of theirs that shines through each of these dramatic twists and turns.
And it's where I base this review on: Chapter 273. In a completely unexpected turn of events, Natsuo and Rui decide to call off the wedding amidst Hina's critical state. And they somehow come to the conclusion that they should take care of Hina instead of living their lives happily. "So you're telling me that whatever feelings Natsuo had for Rui to the point that he'd go to America and profess his love for her was just 'in the moment'?"
I could go on and find another reason to hate the eventual ending of the manga, but I'll leave it to whoever's willing to share their frustrations (or maybe even delight) at these developments. Here's my case: there's a reason why it's called character development. There's a reason why characters go through hardships and learn from their flaws: to become better versions of themselves the audience may root for. This feels like we're back at the beginning all over again: Natsuo head over heels for Hina and Rui accepting her inferiority and settling for second place. We've gone full circle.

70/100"He is the man that made me who i am today" RuiContinue on AniList(Pros first cons in second half. this review is also written with spoilers and comments for people who have or havent read the story to either agree with or disagree or in the other case gain interest in reading it)Domestic na Kanojo a taboo/incest(not really) but like
https://anilist.co/anime/4224/Toradora/ https://anilist.co/anime/21701/Scums-Wish https://anilist.co/anime/21092/Chivalry-of-a-Failed-Knight/ https://anilist.co/anime/12467/Mysterious-Girlfriend-X/ it went about breaking the norm in terms of how it wanted to present love. it pulls you in with the taboo aspects and hooks you with the writing. when i first read this i was happy to see it have the two main love interest already figured out and quite literally thrown in your face. first chapter starts of with our lead getting laid and then flash backing us to how it all ended up that way. going from there it starts putting the world building aspect into play with whom and what his life is about and involves. your typical high school student with one parent trying to get by in life and find them selves. a brief mention of the father and his current love interest and both the teacher and stranger whom he had sex with just so happen to be sisters and now his new sisters. this on paper sounds in some minds like a doujin in others like a soup opera and to some it is indeed a longer version of Nadeshiko Changes which is a doujin of the same essential premise. Everything about this manga from its world building to its character driven arcs to the way the characters don't make choices out of spite or hate or lust for the sake of dram, but when the drama actually hits it hits hard for the reader and the three leads. Every side character is with a name gets development that gives them a real reason to actually be in the story around the main characters rather than just friends or as bakugo would say "extras" they have lives ambitions problems with the three at times. I can say that there is only two people in this manga i dislike. these two characters tho they are what most would call scum or the worst of the worst myself included, still like myne and her father the king from shield hero are written to be that way and have actual reasons for doing what it is they did. which made the arcs that they are in still well written. all in all i have mostly good to say about this manga. Rui is someone who is cold and stubborn at times can be heartless she has a love for cooking and for her sister. i have a love for kuudere type characters for many reasons but rui tops most of them for me. when she starts out her changes are small but logical not rushed and have legitimate reasons for happening and helping her grow as a person. i say this because with romance manga that aspect is sometimes forced and you can see it more often than not. This however is not the case in this manga. Often times the leads feel hopeless and are stuck in a rut because everything that they had been working towards fell apart and they are in a predicament of not mentally or physically being able to do anything about it time passes and things change they get out of that situation not by some object or person that came out of no where that no one knew before and magically has they fix all button, but by with well thought out plans/hopes/dreams/promises/intentions and hard work of said leads. this is what makes these and many other great characters in anime/manga loved and rui natsuo and hina have that too. Hina is at first shown to be a woman that on the outside has everything going for her and is one could say the model daughter has a well paying job is dating someone healthy has good relationship with family and friends. All true she is however hiding secrets doesn't know when to ask for help and handles things somewhat poorly at the start of her journey. by the end hina finally like the other two finds peace in life and with each other content with how this long painful story had unfolded for her and her family which whom she loves very deeply for. The bottom line is that it is a very well written romance manga but i feel the ending was rushed. Read the rest if you dont care for spoilers/ have read the story. Spoilers from here on out: had the manga stooped after the new york arc finished all the character growth and investment put into rui and natsuo would have made this manga a 9 to 10 out of 10 for me i do not hate hina i feel for her giving up essentially every bit of happiness for her siblings and she really deserves to be happy and loved at this point in the story both natsuo and rui have been through rough times natsuo having been through the worst if not on par with hina but he finally found happiness at that point in his life as did rui everything after that negates/ruins the build up of the new york arc. I knew the moment the covers switched back to hina similar to the opening switch in https://anilist.co/anime/4744/The-Hill-Dyed-Rose-Madder tells you who will win in the end/ /the moment the reporter and stalker came back things were going to go down hill for what had just been established and had started to tie everything in a neat bow of this manga is about to end then we get the last arc and it made me feel tilted for two reasons one what happens to a character and two the second to last chapter had just thrown in info we had no time to adjust to just this is supposedly the last chapter and that's it. The chapter after it gives more context that makes things slightly more bearable but in the end if it where to end like this give us the readers things like rui getting more time with her chef partner that had fallen for her. instead of they want to work together again implying that she will be with him over natsuo. As for hina whom wins in the end yes natsuo had the moment of being emotional crushed during the accident and they end up calling of their wedding and relationship to support their sister in her time of need which is commendable . they are also having a child together and still love each other and can still do that while they are still together but i understand that type of pain can make it not feel right to be happy while a loved one is hurt. this is better then hina going back to her ex that she had multiple chances to get back with but didn't and she is in the ight for doing that at the end of i gives this manga a 7. To some say that's high for a manga with an ending i am personally not satisfied with and somewhat let down by and it is. I give it this score because its ending does not destroy what it is that i fell in love with this manga for, it just destroyed a perfect ending. And all the build up before that was dare i say perfect....Funuki
21/100Laughable ending, devolving characters, dragged-out story.Continue on AniListDomestic na Kanojo is finally over, after it's been dragged for so long and beaten to death it finally can rest in peace.
__Art__ While the backgrounds weren't masterpieces, the characters's design made up for it, in most cases at least. They were expressive, sometimes making for some good comedic moments. There was also a nice variety in clothes which made it feel more realistic. What really matters, at least in my opinion, is that Sasuga really shines when it comes to drawing the naked body. Even after everything that happened i can still appreciate the way she draws tits. If you only want to experience that, read the ".1" chapters, the numbers may differ just look for the ".".
The whole story could be separated in two parts high school and college.
__High school__ While it was trashy, it was at it's peak, it was entertaining to follow Natsuo, Rui and Hina trough their predicaments, something dramatic happened every few chapters, most of the time topping it off it a twist of a twist, you didn't really had the option to catch a break. While it sounds bad, it didn't feel forced, at least to some degree; you just went along with the ride, sometimes complaining about the decisions they did. On the other hand, most of the time, the drama was cheesy, the plot always moved in the worst way possible to create stupid situations of the cast.
The themes were somewhat interesting, nothing groundbreaking but they served their purpose of making the cast grow, most of the time being connected to love, some examples being unrequited love, breakup.
In this part, the main cast gets the most development. Rui going from someone lost in life, not knowing what to do with it or what true love was, finds her calling while discovering feelings she didn't realise she had. Hina struggled with her love life, her being in her twenties without a relationship, but she finally found someone that she loves. And in the end, Natsuo, the main character, he shares the struggles the two sisters have, he overcomes them while pursuing his dream.__College__ From this point the series just went downhill. Story wise, it started feeling dragged on. The drama, the quirk that i once enjoyed became a chore. More and more characters whose only role was to create drama appeared, best example is the drama troupe. The literature club in high school had a role beyond being just there to create drama, after the arcs of each character were done they didn't just disappear, they still had a role after their respective arcs ended. Compared to that, the drama troupe was the opposite, characters after characters from it were introduced, took part in the events that unfolded, then just disappeared only to appear once or twice, depending on how relevant they were. On the other hand we got the "villains". Once we moved to adulthood, the manga started focusing more on mature topics like sex work, drugs, abusive relationships, suicide, racism, just to name a few. With them the need for the bad guy arisen, did they have anything interesting about them?, were they more than plot devices to either "develop" the main cast or move the plot?; sadly no, after they got what was coming to them they either disappeared completely or had another appearance for their last dramatic moment.
Arcs that had no real purpose started appearing, they seemed that were helping the characters learn and grow, but in the long run the changes didn't stuck, they were back to where they were in the beginning.
The ending, was the definition of a bad ending. It ignored character development, struggles that the characters had. The reasoning behind just made it more laughable. Everything that happened, all 276 chapters, just thrown out the window. It feels like it all had regressed back to the beginning.I realised that I could never "beat" you.
I'll remember this line for a long time, as one of the most stupid reason for giving up. Hello old Rui, i guess.
I had low expectations for it ever since Tanabe's arc. Story became uninteresting and the characters just competed to see who had the most brain cells missing. But the ending destroyed my expectations. Natsuo realising that he had a powerful love towards Hina was the best joke of this year; after going to America, because his ex had problems, accepting her love, having a child with her, he realises that in reality Hina was the love of her life because she was in life/death situation.__Conclusion__ Don't waste your time, the story and characters just get worse as time goes on, sometimes it feels like the author wants to send a message rather than having a good story. If I had to suggest reading it, stop after high school ended. I still consider that, this series should've ended at that point.
