95/100The Harem of the CenturyContinue on AniListThe 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You (or simply 100 Kanojo) is a harem, romantic-comedy, parody Manga by Nakamura Rikito and Nozawa Yukiko. It was adapted into a 12-episode anime by Bibury Animation Studios, the same studio that brought you The Quintessential Quintuplets.
Where does one even begin talking about this anime? I am pretty sure this was the result of taking large amounts of MDMA while watching too many gag and harem anime, then seriously going "We need a harem in the triple digits" in an office. 100 Kanojo is a parody of the harem genre while being a fun ride filled with creativity and great jokes, more in a single cour/season than most romantic comedies of the year.
The story centers around Aijou Rentarou, after his 100th rejection he is greeted by God who informs him that there was some “cosmic error”, and he is destined to have 100 different soulmates… With the catch, if he does not reciprocate any one of their feelings, they could literally die. His high school life quickly turns into a circus as he attempts to meet his 100 different soulmates and date ALL of them at the same time.
The concept is too ridiculous to take seriously, when I first heard about it, I choked. What is more insane is the authors' commitment to this series. You would think they would introduce a bunch of random characters and only focus on a select few, but they really are trying to introduce 100 different girlfriends all with their own designs, personalities, quirks, mini-arcs, relationships, struggles, and interactions not just with the main character, but the other girlfriends within the harem as well.
This first season only introduces a mere 6 girlfriends and as of this review, the manga is 16 volumes deep and has only just now reached girlfriend #27. My respect towards the authors for their commitment and execution of this series is overwhelming.
As for humor, the anime is hilarious! If you enjoyed Saiki or Gintama you will really love this.
The creativity of the scenarios and the situations deserve more recognition. While most romantic comedies struggle to deliver even a single joke that does not bore the viewer. 100 Kanojo does this easily every other second. The jokes land well due to the great voice acting and chemistry between the characters.
There is a mountain of references to other media from The Shining to Breaking Bad, even an entire Mission Impossible parody scene, and more. Even includes 4th wall breaking jokes, like when a character wonders if their lines got cut from the manga.
The overall production is very good and overflowing with passion. The art is pretty and the character designs are top-notch. The voice acting has a lot of emotion put in, and the OSTs are appropriate. The opening theme song is performed by the main female cast, reaffirming the passion that was put into this project.
Despite the anime’s insanity... the character writing and the few serious moments are very well executed. Sometimes toning down the absurdity while showing you how much Rentarou genuinely cares for and loves his girlfriends.
The cast is very entertaining. Hakari is incredibly down-bad, Karane is one of the biggest tsundere I have ever seen, Shizuka is a must-protect, Nano is ChatGPT possed Komi-san, and Kusuri the druggie makes magic potions like turning her friends into Resident Evil kiss zombies.
However, Rentarou steals the show. Being borderline superhuman, unbelievably kind and caring towards all his girlfriends, and hilarious to watch whenever he is on screen. Written to be capable, treating all of his multiple girlfriends equally and never regretting the situation he was brought into.
If you love humor like Saiki or Gintama, this is right up your alley. The cast is colorful and the main harem lead will not make you pull your hair out.
I wholeheartedly recommend it, even if you dislike harem anime. At least give this show an episode or two to try, the first episode gives a great introduction and it only gets better from there.

90/100Life-changing, extremely wholesome, and it's far and away, one of the best harems I've ever seen.Continue on AniListBackground:
I think the Harem Genre has gotten a little bit stale and repetitive over the years, and i had ZERO expectations going into the trailer for 100kano
When i asked my friends if the anime was good, everyone immediately went all hive-minded and said "IT'S FUCKING PEAK YOU MUST WATCH IT NOW!"
And after finishing it, they were 100% right.
Animation:
While seemingly very safe in the surface, it does have a lot of soul and charm in all of the scenes.
Clearly Bibury has improved drastically in how they animate things, and that makes this anime REALLY enjoyable, all of the goofs, jokes are enhanced A LOT by the animation, and this is by far the best part in my opinion.
The world that encompasses Rentarou and his "Geass Power" (as i would like to call it, unofficial name tho) is full of surprises and twists that make every single joke feel unique along with the places the cast goes to, and the many problems that the main character of this series has to face.
Characters:
Not the most fleshed out characters in the world, but they aren't personality-less (aside from, 1 technical one)
Let's start with the Unluckiest, turned Luckiest, Rentarou Aijou.
HE'S QUITE LITERALLY the best part about the characterization in my opinion (at least, in this season), as explained in the Animation section, he has the "Power of Infinite Lust" from God himself, he does know his limits (literally in the title, only 100 girlfriends), but he didn't know how much the affected female would become in terms of irresistibility to him.
He's like the human embodiment of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" chorus (in a good way, not the trolling way, I'm serious).
He always tries his ultimate best to appease the ever-increasing amount of girls, not letting them down, saying goodbye, and never had thoughts of hurting them using lies.
He also became the Spy from TF2 LOL!, LMAO EVEN!
The first 2 girls that he meets affected by his Domain Expansion of Infinite Lust is Hakari and Karane.
Hakari is just your standard love-interest-type character, that really likes to reveal her body (for some reason), and overall, way more lustful to him than EVERY SINGLE GIRL in the cast, and she does have a very great character arc later in the series (that I will talk about later)
Karane is an actual Tsundere that I genuinely like (shocking, i know, despite my hatred towards them.), and actually one of the more charming one I've seen, because she isn't overly toxic, and does have a great bond with Hakari (they kissed each other, twice btw)
Next is much more shy one, yet full of charm, using her phone to communicate, Shizuka (on second thought why is "Shizuka" such an uncommon name in fiction).
Shizuka has the greatest introduction to any of the girls in the cast in my opinion, episode 3 is where we see Shizuka in her full glory, with a very touching backstory as to why she didn't speak, rather used a book (initially), and after having eye contact with Rentarou, as time passes, he gets to know Shizuka better, eventually being Rentarou's lover.
The script shines in this department, as it depicts her feelings to Rentarou similar to a Fantasy Love Story, and that is a nice touch.
Followed up the shyness is Nano.
If you HAVEN'T though, just make sure to know that Nano is quite robotic and nerdy compared to the other girls in the cast, as she initially speaks in quite a harsh manner to Rentarou at first, but after a little bit of dating, her mind changes, and over time, learns about him and his past and even future girls.
Further down there is a literal mad scientist who would fuck around in every turn and find out, Kusuri.
Her main appeal is her ability to create any drug in the world, along with cures for any drug (hope she makes one for cancer though, that would save a lot of lives).
On the subject of drugs (don't do them, kids), the "Resident Evil"/Kiss Zombie Arc is a very intense one and serves to act as a sign of comedy, and development for her character, as she learns from her mistakes and then develop near flawless ones.
The final one is Hakari's mom, who's funnily enough, named after the Japanese of "Mother", Hahari.
She was initially introduced as the Queen of the Hanazono family (with a somewhat concerning, and really dark backstory of child birth for some reason), who KNEW about what happened to Hakari and wanted to stop her relationship with Rentarou, so the cast has to find a way to somehow counteract Hahari's acts.
Her house was BUILT LIKE FUCKING AREA 51 IN TERMS OF SECURITY, so they have to plan ahead at every turn, it could be making fake noises to disrupt the police, bypassing the lasers, and many other means.
With the help of Rentarou's tears removing the laser detecting eyes, she IMMEDIATELY falls in love with him, and it got turned into something that is both very funny and turned into a darker one (especially for Hakari's side).
(The entire dynamic between Hakari and Rentarou is enhanced even more by this, and it really shows how much Hakari meant for Rentarou).
And thus wanting Rentarou to take care of Hakari along WITH her.
Story:
there is a surprising amount of depth here, considering the fact it follows some of the main curses of an SOL (mostly storyless).
Aside from Hakari's arc, all of the characters have each of their seperate ways to grow and change as Rentarou falls in love with them.
the pacing is really fast, and that helps the comedy, and the slow moments are also well thought out and didn't disrupt the pacing due to the amazing soundtrack.
the atmosphere is really alive too. Anything right or wrong could happen at any moment.
One minor nitpick: In my humble opinion, the opening is really grating and annoying to listen to.
I understand the show's premise is Infinite Lust, but you don't need to keep saying "really love" in every part of the chorus.
The references in this show are cool and are a nice throwback for me, especially the Tom Cruise one.
Overall thoughts
A must-watch, this is easily the best first-impressions-type harem for anyone to start with, and even if you watched harems in the past, you will still find a metric ton of enjoyment when watching this.

10/100Romcom is dead and this killed itContinue on AniListRomcom is dead. That’s it. That’s my review.
Now, seriously, Kimi no Koto ga Dai Dai Dai Dai Daisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo is probably one of the worst romcoms in recent memory. The word “romcom” originates from combining the words “romantic” and “comedy”, so, here we have a romcom that is neither funny nor has romance, fundamentally failing at the most basic level of the genre.
I have always found a problem with romcoms and that is a reason why, even though I like some of them, they are always flawed in one way or another, as usually girls will fall in love with a guy because he was nice to them once, and that’s pretty much all she needs to want to pursue the MC, but in this series you don’t even get that, here the girls fall in love because they saw the MC to his eyes. The problem with these girls is that they don’t have much else going on for them aside from loving the MC, Hakari is constantly lusting after him and Karane is a complete tsundere towards him, and that’s pretty much their entire personality. You can literally describe all the girls of this series in a single gimmick, after all, the author is supposed to create 100 female characters, so making them have an actual personality would be almost impossible.
I honestly didn’t find the comedy funny at any point, as even the boke and tsukkomi routine doesn’t work because even the tsukkomi is insanely stupid too, making it near impossible to actually differentiate it from the boke. The references to other things were fine I guess, like the Biohazard one, even if some were very forced like the “Ghoul from Tokyo” one in the first episode. This series also tries to have some serious moments, like Shizuka’s backstory to explain why she behaves like a generic shy anime girl, but most girls won’t get this kind of stuff for them.
The biggest problem of this series isn’t the comedy or the characters or how it looks like, however, the biggest problem is the premise itself, this series’ romance is completely disingenuous. Why I say this is really easy: the romance in this series is completely based on brainwashing the girls. I remember that I came across the manga because I saw a lot of people saying how good and funny it was and since I like to watch romcoms I decided to give it a read, and so when I was like half a chapter in and the god explained to Rentarou that he would get 100 girlfriends because he will rewire their brains into loving him, I immediately dropped the manga, honestly, the first time I saw the girls was in the PVs for the anime. I mean, I’ve seen arguments as to why this series supposedly doesn’t have brainwashing, and some specific examples were occasions like when Nano didn’t want to become his girlfriend, but those are completely untrue, the second Nano and Rentarou saw each other, she instantly fell in love and wanted to become his girlfriend, in fact, she was the one who asked to him to date her first, and she probably wouldn’t be dating anyone if it wasn’t for the zing given her own mentality. Even worse, I’ve seen some claim it’s not brainwashing because Rentarou is affected too… which just means he’s also being brainwashed by the god, with neither side of the relationship being real.
The most egregious example of all this is the end of episode 10, and the first 17 seconds of episode 11 basically prove me right, the complete change of character once the brainwashing takes place is actually jarring. How am I supposed to believe this isn’t some kind of brainwashing when the girls’ minds were clearly reprogrammed so they would fall in love with a guy without knowing anything about him and that they will die if they don’t go along with it? And this basically turns this series into something uninteresting, this series is literally the opposite of doing a good romcom, it is fundamentally broken because all the relationships presented here are forced and unnatural to the most absolute extreme. Of course, this turns Rentarou’s character into a mess and someone that one could easily call a self-insert, he is a perfect boyfriend for every single one of the girls, no matter how different they are from him or if they actually have anything in common, he doesn’t seem worried at all about the huge number of girlfriends he will have, I don’t think he even has any kind of hobby aside from loving these girls, he feels even more factory-made than the girls.
I have no mean words towards the people who enjoy this series, please, go ahead and enjoy it if you want to see a plot straight out of some sleazy hentai be presented as if it was a wholesome romcom, but there’s nothing that can change my mind that this series is fundamentally flawed from its very conception.
Thank you for reading.
