DESCRIPTION
This story takes place in a particular town with two infamous schools in constant dispute: Chidori High, a boys' school predominantly attended by low-class students with damning grades, and its neighbor Kikyo Girls' High, with most of its female students coming from wealthy and prestigious families. One day, high school second-year Rintaro Tsumugi, a fierce-looking but gentle-minded student at Chidori, is helping at his family's patisserie when he encounters a female customer by the name of Kaoruko Waguri. Rintaro enjoys his time with Kaoruko, as she doesn't judge him for his appearance, but this blissful peace is quickly disturbed when Rintaro makes the discovery that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo. This revelation marks the beginning of the two's strenuous tale, as they fight against the limitations placed upon them by their schools and surroundings in an attempt to find their own path!

100/100These flowers are indeed beautifulContinue on AniListKaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku, or The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, as many call it, is a shoujo manga that mainly focuses on the romantic relationship between a girl, Waguri Kaoruko, who attends a prestigious all-girls school, and a boy, Tsumugi Rintarou, who attends an infamous all-boys school known for the fact that most of its students don´t have good grades and are rumoured to get into all sorts of trouble; it´s like one of those schools full of delinquents that usually pop up in mangas, however the author made sure to tone it down to an acceptable degree so it could be considered fitting for this story. And it happens to be that both schools are beside each other on the same street.
The plot is undoubtedly about these two, but the more time they spend to know each other the bigger the world comes to be in this story as we are introduced with many other characters who are mostly friends or family of these two, these characters have their own issues and dramas of course. Although for a large number of readers it might be less interesting than the romance itself, I have to disagree, it´s because of the interactions between the main characters and they that these issues come to be solved or at least start changing for the better, as result the secondary characters gain more humanity and at the same time the main characters have a certain self-development. It´s for this reason that I think this series should also be categorized as Slice of life.
As I’ve said before it´s a shoujo manga and therefore you would expect an art style fitting for this demography (you know, those ones of villainess in another world or the ones with the classic high school setting), however this one is rather different, don´t get me wrong, I´m quite fond of the characters design, the drawing style do have quite a big merit in its favour. Most of the characters are relatable, in part for their inner thoughts but mostly because of their facial expressions, they seem so unbelievably human that the only reasonable thing to do is sympathize with them.
Another feature to take into account is the discrimination that the boys from Chidori, the all-boys school, have to face as the people from the surroundings, including the girls from Kikyo, deem them as some sort of dangerous idiots that shouldn´t be trusted by no means, when in fact they are pretty much nice guys who don´t like being treated as if they were some kind of criminals. If you are wondering whether or not there are any downsides for the manga this isn´t your place, It´s actually so good that the only possible bad part is perhaps that Rintarou and Kaoruko sure did take their time to develop their relationship, but you have to remember it´s a shoujo manga, so it makes sense; those little moments of intimacy and unspoken feelings are truly fulfilling.
So far it has been demonstrated an undeniable fact: This manga is highly recommendable to anyone. There isn´t at all any kind of fanservice or unusual characters that might make the other reader think immediately: “The story is quite good, but these parts make me feel uncomfortable, I’m dropping”. NO!!! The sole reason anyone would leave it aside is plain laziness, and even I find it difficult knowing how good the comedy is along the chapters. To sum up at once, it´s one of the best mangas I´ve ever read in my short existence, and while it hasn´t finished yet I hope it gets another two hundred chapters if possible. Now, the series is doing so well lately that I wouldn´t be surprised if this year we catch wind of an official announcement for an anime, I´ll be looking forward to it as I hope all of you will do as well.
Having said all that I hope you liked this review.

95/100Irresistibly cute and wholesome, holding the love in it's grasp high with pride and dignityContinue on AniList
Romance manga is a unique genre because it's a place for all types of audiences to be comforted in different ways. There are subgenres inside to add more spice to viewers too, from the psychological nature of _Love is War_, the disgusting nature of _Domestic Girlfriend_, The Absurdity of _Rent-a-girlfriend_, and keeping it as wholesome as _Horimiya_. While these series are pretty iconic in the manga world, most of them have already ended, and most mangas right now are either starting up a series that's basically a rehash of another series, which makes reading it a chore, or a current series that drags itself too much. There aren't many romance mangas that can replace the highs of the previews amazing romance mangas, but one manga shines brighter, and it could be even brighter with even more exposure than it deserves, placing on the same spot next to the modern classic romance mangas, and that manga is “_The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity_”. ***
This manga starts off as your usual delinquent boy meets studious girl, but the manga diverts your expectations by subverting the tropes these kinds of storylines usually get. The main guy Rintarou is a calm-hearted individual who experienced moments in his early life deep in pessimism, and the main girl Kaoruku who sees the kindness within Rintarou. The division of these individuals both figuratively and literally had started to close the gap as both characters became closer and closer. The main storyline on both of our main characters is some of the most genuine-made, smartly driven, and wholesome. Each arc makes sense for the story and it doesn't drag itself out but still having that grip of irresistible urge to keep reading because of how engaging the characters in the manga are. ***
This stretches further from the side characters in the series, from Rintarou’s group of friends, who are some of the most charming and endearing characters in the manga, with their unique personalities that enhance the fun-ness the series has already emitted, to Kaoruku’s friends, who you might need a little adjustment to like, but they are already fun enough to read. Some of the side characters, such as Subaru and Ayato, who on the surface are just side characters for our main character, but the manga dedicates enough time to spend with them and explore their own little world and struggles without ruining the essence of the series. ***
Overall, the entire manga is an irresistibly cute, wholesome series that never fails to make you smile and gets you addictively reading through the entire chapter and possibly re-reading due to its irresistible cuteness. The progression and the romance feel natural, and the friend group has a lot of chemistry together, mixed in with its slice-of-life elements. This is bound to be the most relatable and realistic romance manga out there, tackling topics that are relevant to adolescence and a romance that doesn't drag but naturally progresses and falls into its right places.
This manga deserves its utmost praise that would hopefully lead to a slow ascend of being a modern classic romance manga, putting its fragrant flower high and mighty, screaming with the utmost dignity.

100/100The Greatest Romance Of All Time - And It's Not Even CloseContinue on AniListSeeing me say that this seemingly new romance, which doesn't even have an adaptation yet, is "the greatest romance of all time" might sound insane. But Fragrant Flower is different. Out of the 100+ romance animangas I've read and watched, this one has something special, and I know exactly what it is. Almost every romance you'll encounter in the anime space feels like it's trying to accomplish the same thing: two people meeting, falling in love, and getting together, with some fanservice and love triangles mixed in. Obviously, there are exceptions, but overall, that's what the genre is—bland and designed to keep you consuming, hoping you'll find the diamond in the rough. Well, this is that gem.
The story follows two schools, Chidori Public High School and Kikyo Private Girls' Academy, with the male lead and female lead attending their respective counterparts. "Chidori Public High School is known as the bottom-feeder, lower-ranked school where all the 'morons' gather. This school has a strong rivalry with Kikyo Private Academy, an all-girls prestigious school for young ladies. Their rivalry is so intense that Kikyo closes the curtain to avoid seeing Chidori."
Rinatou is a "scary on the outside but sweet on the inside" type of guy who works at his family's local cake shop. The story begins when he meets a young girl at his cake shop who coincidentally attends his rival school. He's caught off guard when his seemingly rough and mean appearance doesn't faze this girl, as she invites him to sit next to her. Their love story progresses fast but doesn't feel rushed. It's perfectly paced and the moments that are supposed to matter, matter. They understand each other and it feels like a real relationship compared to most of what you'll see in the genre.
This small introduction speaks volumes about the story. It’s not the "friends to lovers" or "enemies to lovers" type of tale you might expect. It's also about the respective friend groups of the leads, who, despite attending completely polar opposite schools, realize that the differences they believed they had might not be as big as they first seemed. I feel like this description alone gives you an insight into the feeling of hope you get while reading it.
The main reason I think that this is the best romance of all time comes down to many factors, but to keep it simple, it's the authenticity. You feel like a better person while reading this and encourages you to go look beneath what you see on the surface. The friends, leads, and parents are all understanding people who respect their connections and truly want to see the people they know succeed.
This is a MUST-read.
