90/100My favorite delinquent mangaContinue on AniListI started reading "Love, That's an Understatement" by chance, and honestly, the name is so hard to remember that me and my friends affectionately nicknamed it "the delinquent manga" LOL
Risa Amakawa, like many of us, is a girl who was forced to mature and become responsible for herself at a young age due to the absence of her mother, who spends most of her time at work (yay to all solo moms, you are amazing!). This need for early maturity has made Risa an extremely independent person who feels compelled to deal with her problems on her own. This independence is even reflected in the contents of her bag: she carries all possible and imaginable items to ensure that she can handle any situation without relying on anyone's help.
Due to this forced independence, Risa sees herself as an individualistic and inconsiderate person. However, everything is called into question when she finds a delinquent boy lying in the park, injured from being beaten up by a rival gang. Despite her individualistic nature, Risa decides to help the young boy and ends up gaining a favor in return. Zen, the delinquent in question, insists on repaying the favor and will not be satisfied until he does.
Risa's evolution is something captivating to see, as in each chapter, she gradually steps out of her comfort zone and becomes more involved in Zen's world.
Zen, on the other hand, is the gem of this manga. He, contradicting all stereotypes of a delinquent, is an extremely kind guy and loved by the entire local community LOL his dedication to the female protagonist is extremely adorable. The more they interact, the more Risa gradually breaks down her barriers and allows herself to be swept away (sometimes quite literally) by Zen. The relationships are very well developed in this title, and the romantic scenes are sigh-worthy.
Even the "romantic rival" in this manga has been well crafted by the author. This plotline hasn't reached its peak yet, but it's one of the few instances where the "third wheel" is not someone forced into the story just to hinder the main couple, but rather a feeling that has timidly developed and still needs further exploration.
The manga is relatively new, and I know that Risa's lack of romantic experience (and lack of understanding) will cause some problems in the future (the author is already preparing us for that), but I would like to recommend this title as one of my current favorites.
If you enjoy delinquents (I know you do), romance, comedy, and fangirling, you should read this manga and join the fan club of those who are head over heels for Zen.

90/100I'm starting to like delinquents with this oneContinue on AniList"Hikaeme Ni Itte Mo, Kore Wa Ai - (Love, That Is An Understatement) It's my fifth favourite shoujo manga from Top 10.
If i say i do like this manga that sure would be an understatement.Delinquents are some rowdy troublemakers that is always find a way to engaged in all unnecessary and unreasonable fighting that's what I thought of them, however this manga changed these thoughts of mine and perhaps I'm starting to like delinquents but of course if they're like Zen!
Amakawa Risa (Risa Amakawa) Is a high school student like every shoujo protagonist. She is a coolheaded girl who is slight of a tsundere. Since from the young age she is compelled to became independent and live on her own most of the time due to her mother's busy work, as a result of it risa came to believe she has to be self-reliant and gotta deal with each problem by herself without needing anyone's help or support other than her heavy bag, where there's a little home in it that has everything and that always came in handy in neediness of her as well as of other's. She always take it with her whenever she go outdoor.
On a certain day of a rainy evening: Risa found Ohira Zen (Zen Ohira) who is terribly battered by his rival gang, lying on a park where everyone was passing by there and pretending to overlook him. However risa couldn't came to ignore him nor her instinct of helping others so she made a decision to help him as well. Her help that came from the stimuli literally saved zen from his near-death experienced who turned out to be a notorious delinquent.
Zen always save others in any of crisis but on that rainy day it was the first time for him to got saved by other so he was too determined to return the favour but risa was too stubbornly independent to even accept it. Zen was ready to rescue her whenever or wherever from one pinch to another. One day he gave her a token of anytime help for her to use it. After saved by zen tons of time risa came to realized zen's words to her that she need him were true, Despite being independent she really need him and need to rely on no one but on him other than herself.
Ohira Zen is seriously a well-written character. It's quite understandable why risa fell for him (i fell in love with him before the protagonist, LOL). Being delinquent caused many misunderstandings about him to some people, that they sees him as a troublemaker and a bad news but there are also a bunch of people who understood zen well and are aware of his true nature other than risa.
Well, Zen is a real life-saver for everyone whether they are his friends or neighbours. He sure is a delinquent but definitely a good one! He is truly a caring man instead of some bad news. It's crystal clear that he is a whole green forest. He is definitely a boyfriend material, just one good deed and risa get this prince by her side ╥.╥
(Haha, I'm happy but also a bit jelly though).Risa is a tsundere but she can sometimes let him show her inner gentle side. It's hard for tsundere ones to convey their feelings clearly but she did well with her own feelings and that's quite interesting thing about her that I also like.
I really love them and the storyline. I love how well-written male characters are in shoujo/josei mangas.
I highly recommend this manga whether you like delinquents or not but you are gonna fall for this one for sure!!Thanks for reading my review ^^
