91/100This was the first comedy otome isekai I read, but it definitely won't be the last!Continue on AniListI'm glad that I can finally get around to writing this review! I started writing it, and then I got really sick and then the review got deleted, and here I am rewriting it! I don't think it's as good as what I had originally so bear with me.
Anyways, I really enjoyed it. Otome isekai hasn't let me down yet! I started it a while ago, and I decided to finish it as tribute to my friend who left Anilist for a while, and I'm glad I did. It was genuinely funny, and I was surprised with the depth of the character backstories and how truly engaging the romance was. It truly explores the otome isekai world in a creative way.
Our heroine reincarnates as Latte Ectrie, a minor antagonist in a novel she used to read. Her world's protagonist is Ibelin Dott, a beautiful maiden who charms the hearts of the three most attractive men in the kingdom. Latte decides that she doesn't want to lead the life of a villainess, but instead a spectator. She wants to watch the chaos unfold instead of playing a part, starting with becoming the sidekick of Ibelin!
This story is a loving parody of otome isekai and reverse harem tropes. However, that's not all there is to it! We get to see Latte's side jobs as a BL author and popcorn merchant. It really expands on the characters' hobbies and goals. The goes into the "why" of all the characters' behaviors and motivations. It also offers such good romantic development. I adore Latte's relationship with her love interest. They have so much chemistry. (I will not be sharing who that is because of spoilers.)
The side stories are all great, and they really feel like they really fit the tone of the story. We get some future chapters about the leads and their kids. However, most of the chapters are bizarre AUs. We get to see what would happen if Latte's love interest was someone else, the characters acting out fairy tale characters, as well as a high school AU. The high school one was my favorite.
Latte Ectrie is truly an interesting protagonist. She's a lively entrepreneur who loves to cause chaos and tease people. I really enjoyed how her view towards her new life and being a sidekick was explored. She may be bold, but she really has trouble interfering with the story.
The three suitors are my type of characters. They're all quite weird and entertaining. Rondemio, the prince, is a narcissist who views himself as better than everyone else. Kenneth, the youngest duke, is bad tempered and doesn't get along well with women. Arwin, the most powerful wizard and master of the tower, is a mass murderer who's only sweet with the one he loves. I was pleased with the way Arwin and Kenneth grew and changed. They both had interesting backstories, and I felt like they were a crucial part of the story with how they explored their feelings for Ibelin. I'm very happy with how their lives turned out. The prince on the other hand didn't really grow much, but he was definitely funny in the AUs. I did feel like his ending was really fitting with how static he was.
Ibelin herself comes off as the lovable, but naive heroine. She seemed too perfect and too bland, and yet there was something deeper that isn't quite visible. When her psyche is exposed it's deeply satisfying. Her background and her behaviors align so perfectly, she truly feels human.
As for the art, it was also nice! The way the eyes are drawn is just breathtaking. There's so much talent put to work in this manhwa! The chibi forms are cute, but the normal forms just radiate elegance. The suitors (or fish as Latte calls them) are just a bit too pretty. I wouldn't be surprised if they were mermen or Ken dolls in disguise or something. They're just a bit too feminine and a bit too sparkly and perfect. I don't know why but they're unsettling. Kenneth did grow on me, but Arwin and the Prince still kind of make me laugh.
Anyways, I laughed a lot! I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a comedy otome isekai with crazy characters. Heck, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes otome isekai or parodies, period! It's such a fun read, and I hope more people can enjoy it!
