80/100Basically Adventure Time the manga.Continue on AniListThis is going to be my first review so please go easy on me.
(No spoilers)
I felt a strong sense of duty after I finished this manga. This manga needs more attention then what it has right now—which is nothing. So yeah here is a review on this manga to hopefully convince you to read it.
Rojica and Rakkasei is a short, sweet and brutal manga. In it, we follow our two main leads... Rojica and Rakka. When you read the title of this review know that I mean every single damn word of it—it's literally just Adventure Time. So if you enjoyed watching that then please I implore you to stop reading this review and just read this manga. But, if you are someone who didn't experience the cartoon let me sell you on it.
Story
The story follows the daily lives of Rojica—a kind and caring alien looking creature, and the father figure for Rakka—an adventurous brave and strong child.
The world that these characters both live in is a post apocalyptic world, where an ancient civilization used to inhabit. But while that is the case, there are a few things that still stayed from those times that are just waiting to be discovered. For example, in the first chapter of this series we are shown how the leads discover a mysterious disk.
Not knowing what it is, they by chance meet up with their friend Isaac who is essentially on a mission to unravel everything that there is to know about that ancient civilization—and while at it, teach and learn himself about everything that he can muster to learn—and teach those things to others.
Later on we are introduced to other side characters that all have very interesting and dark stories from the first chapter all the way to the end. There is one side character though that steals the show eventually, but since I don't want to spoil on who that is, I will just leave you with a 'Trust me on that.'If you want to look at the story from a critical point of view, I would say that it is rather simple. It is simple, but yet very effective. I cried to this manga, but at the most basic level type of a plot point. But while the story doesn't really offer anything new in terms of a slice of life story, what the story does bring you is great characters that will (maybe) make you tear up a bit, great moments that made me feel shocked, and fantastic world building. Every new chapter feels like a step forward to learning what is going on in this world, and that sense of progression takes your hand from start to finish. Seriously, if you are a lore type of guy you will definitely love the lore and world of this story.
And that's basically it when it comes to the story. The series is a very slow burner. I say if you didn't enjoy reading the first 4 chapters, then drop it. The first 4 chapters should pretty much have everything that the manga will offer you for the next duration of it.
When it comes to the ending, it ended at a very much great and fitting place. The ending left me personally with a very much satisfying relief since everything that was up for questioning was answered for me at the very end.
Art
The art in this manga fits it well. It looks a tad realistic but at the same time very fantasy looking, it just fits it well. There is a whole bunch of small detail in the art that the mangaka, Kinome—didn't need to put in but did anyway and it's just great all around. I don't have much to say about the art—if your eyes enjoyed staring at the cuts that are included in this review—then you will have a fun ride in regards to the art in this manga.
Conclusion
Rojica and Rakkasei is a criminally underrated manga that needs more attention. The manga fits well with both slice of life junkies and fantasy connoisseurs. But when the manga wants to get dark—it does it very much brutally. It is the type of dark where you see the life of a person from baby to adult, seeing their lows and highs, only for that life to end in the blink of an eye by a car crash, leaving you with nothing but sadness.
I don't know if my review does this manga any justice, but if I convinced at least one person to read it, then that's a win for me.Benkei
80/100Spoiler-free review of Rojika to Rakkasei. Wholesome, funny, and beautiful short work.Continue on AniList════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Considerations ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ ● __This is a spoiler-free review.__ ● 80+ in my rating means really good. ● When I mention "cartoons" in the review. I refer to animated cartoons what are/were popular in TV such as Adventure time, Foster Mansion, Gumball etc. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Story ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Rikka and Rojica live together as a family in a crazy world, and to pass time, they dig holes, go into dungeons, fish mythological creatures, and much more — yet they know little about the world they inhabit. The story of Rojika to Rakkasei is pretty good. While it seems like a slice of life, there's a rich background story that has really nice pacing. Ultimately, it feels like "reading your favorite cartoon." Despite its simple, even childish appearance. There's a depth to the story, with some heavy and dramatic parts that both spooked and saddened me at times. In all senses, this manga feels like the embodiment of duality, with simple and yet complex stories and art. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Art Style ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The art style of Rojika to Rakkasei is pretty good. The light and shadows are very well done, being able to deliver "spooky" moments with very thick lines and fading into darker panels. Equally, it can deliver some light and wholesome scenes with sparkles, light lines, and very white panels. Artistically, the part that really amazed me was the perspective play. It felt like seeing charcoal bust drawings. The sense of depth is something that shines in this work. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Characters ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ There are an average number of characters in this work: Rojica, Rikka, and a few other supporting characters. They're not overly developed as a whole, but each character has their own space when sharing their background information and stories. As the work has somewhat of a childish vibe to it and is pretty short, I don't feel like it lacks in this department. As I always like to talk about the main characters, Rikka was pretty good. Innocent, airheaded, and always looking for adventures, exactly like one of the good adventure cartoons were. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Conclusion ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ If you're like me, you skip everything and read only the conclusion because you don't want to get spoiled with other themes. So I will try to be brief on this point: Read it. Be it for the wholesome moments or the rich world building, you can't go wrong with this manga since it has a pretty good art style and story for such a short work.
