DESCRIPTION
What if someone was able to reach into your mind and change your memories? To alter your perceptions, see things that aren't there, and remember events that never happened? You could drive off a cliff believing that you were still on the road, or commit murder without knowing what you had done. Now imagine being one of the people born with this ability. Knowing how easily our entire world can be taken apart, would you accept orders to manipulate others?
That's the conundrum that Hiroki, Satoru and Tsukasa find themselves in as they're employed as psychic hitmen and enforcers by a mysterious agency. Or, at least, that's what might be happening. Because they themselves are almost certainly being manipulated, and the concepts of truth and reality cease to have meaning when you're one of the terrifying beings known as a pet.

75/100A psychological thriller hidden within a crime drama, with an Autism metaphor.Continue on AniListI may be biased. As I watched this anime I got the feeling that the author was trying to come up with an anime based on lower spectrum autism, and having a child in the spectrum myself, I honestly loved it.
So hear me out on this autism metaphor. The premise of this show is that there are gifted people who cannot make memories of their own because they are unable to separate the emotional turmoil in their head. Once they are given the tools to do so, however, they unlock, what I can only call psychic powers. I often hear autism being described as being locked in your head with too much input. My daughter is non-verbal and as hard as it is to admit the characters in this anime before they get a peak (you'll understand if you watch) act very much like she does sometimes. I might be reading too much into the story from my own experience, but isn't that what art is all about? If you can extrapolate a metaphor that connects with you, you are more apt to enjoy something. I did with this anime.
I'll say this here because I was a bit confused at first but after a second watch I understood that the opening scenes are a flashback and what follows is a psychological thriller in the guise of a crime drama. As with many psychological thrillers, the plot twists and turns and the pay off will be divisive.
So, even though it hit a soft spot for me, I have to be real. The execution of the story is a bit messy so that unless you are paying close attention and taking notes you might get lost. If you are someone who likes to turn your brain off when you watch anime, this is not the one for you.
The animation is honestly holding this anime back, in that the best set pieces are lost to a somewhat bland style of art that retracts from the psychedelic nature of the material. I have not read the source material but I do think that my imagination had to work overtime to be impressed by what I was obviously supposed to be impressed with in the visuals.
I also think, for a psychological drama, it has too many characters which means none get to fully shine. I do think they do the best they can to develop all the characters, but I can only imagine it would be a better anime had it been done with fewer characters.
I would still recommend this anime for people to watch. It has an original concept and that is something anime sorely needs.
