Letty is not very good at being a dragon. Actually, he’s so terrible at it that his dad went and kicked him out of the house! What’s a skittish monster of myth to do in a world where everyone sees him as material for their next suit of armor? Why, find a safe place to call home, of course. With the help of a slightly evil elvish architect, Letty’s quest for the ultimate draconic domicile begins!

75/100What the manga lacks in story it makes up for in creative satire and whimsyContinue on AniListThis is a series that relies on comedy and satire over any thing else. If you like silly fantasy, video game and other pop culture references, and over the top misunderstandings then I would recommend this series. If you want something more serious and story driven then you might enjoy reading it on a lazy Sunday afternoon to kill time.
The story is a vehicle that allows the reader to explore this fantasy world along side its characters instead of telling a more traditional plot you would find in your more typical fantasy tale. Letty, the timid and cowardly dragon, is not a hero by any means but the embodiment of comedic relief in the form of a large dragon. Not unlike the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz, his journey with his companions is about him growing up and maturing as much as it is reaching a destination that will server as his Home. The remainder of the story is about world building more than anything else as it showcases a wide variety of your typical fantasy races all living in a proper society, which is something rarely seen even the most literary stories. While this idea is refreshing and intriguing to explore, it also removes any semblance of conflict or deeper storytelling aside from your standard Hero or Monster Hunter serving as antagonists.
The characters mainly consist of Letty, the aforementioned dragon, who whining cowardly nature can at times override any humor and comedic relief he adds to the story which does hinder it compared to more solid well-structured comedies. Dearia is powerful but has barely any personality for Letty to play off of and Pip, Letty's adopted child, is too young to be anything but a mascot. The cast of characters we meet along the way are what bring life into the story as their personalities and characteristics are as diverse as their races and species. They might not be as original or creative as other similar series, they do add a level of familiarity to those seeking something more causal in their fantasy.
This series lacks a finite and solid plot that the reader can grasp onto. While it is a coming of age story and comedic series, the lack of conflict aside from fighting rouge humans after Letty's head and surviving in a unforgiving RPG fantasy world, makes the story and setting feel empty. It is the characters who truly add to the story but are lacking in their own way. In comedies like this, the characters are the pillar that support the narrative but this series character's lack the strength and personality to do that. While the story is still incredibly enjoyable and hilarious with its video game and fantasy satire, it is missing a common thread to tie it all together.
