63/100Museum has an interesting concept, but never comes close to its true potential.Continue on AniListMuseum starts off its story by introducing 23-year old police sergeant, Hisashi Sawamura; a workaholic who constantly chooses his work-life over that of his wife and son, eventually causing them to leave him. Almost immediately after they leave, Sawamura is called in to investigate a series of murders: a woman eaten to death by dogs, a young man whose body parts were sawed off, ... ... a man whose body has been cut in half, a woman who's been frozen, and a man who's been found with thumbtacks shoved into his mouth. It is gradually revealed that there is a common thread between these murders, one that also links Sawamura's wife, thus, putting her life at risk.
__Story: 5__ The potential here was great. Brilliant investigative work, detailed and organized death, an edgy background to accompany the hero detective, and the makings for a unique and bizarre antagonist. But each of these marks were far from being hit in this story that didn't even come close to its deeply hidden potential. This story was filled with simple coincidences and cliches which as a result, never challenged anything that it came into contact with (whether it be the reader or the characters of the story). There were multiple times where each clue that they received was the result of a coincidence, it was almost maddening how much depth was just plainly missing. In addition, each murder seemed to have bursting amounts of creativity and interesting backstories, but this story just blindly accepted them at face value, never stopping to dissect and go into the "beneath-the-surface" reasons, as to why they occurred. To wrap it up, the main problem with this story is the pacing. It breezes through the whole investigation process and gives little to no background on any of the characters, diminishing each one to a fragile outer shell with no substance or depth. I would say that this story is good for those who aren't necessarily worried about the depth of the story or getting a connection with any characters, and just want a quick read.
__Characters: 5__ The characters of this story are by far nothing to be impressed by. There was such a lack of development, that I would say, every single character, had barely any growth or gave an understanding to them. And while none of their personalities stood out as annoying, none of them ever actually stood out. Even the main character just seemed to exist within the story with no special reason that made him stand out as being a "hero" or someone that even bettered the story. The lack of attachment to any of the characters led to an unfulfilling ending, one that should've been filled with emotion.
__Art: 6.5__ In all honesty, the art of this manga was not bad, it was pretty clear and I had no problem reading and following what was happening. The action scenes were easy to follow, as were the few that were filled with gore. It added a much-needed touch of disgust at times when it was needed but still fell a little short as none of the scenes were really that memorable. Just like the actual story, there was nothing that made it stand out from the rest.
__Summary / Overall: 6.3__ This story admittedly has a bunch of flaws, mostly due to the pacing of the story. The characters and story had very little overall growth and the ending wasn't really anything memorable. But, there was a good balance of gore (not too much), which added a little of some much-needed spice to this overall bland story. The concept/plot was also very interesting, but unfortunately, it never reached its full potential. This is a manga that I would recommend if you just want a short and slightly unsettling read or are just getting into manga and want something with surface-level interest. The art makes it easy to follow and the added touch of gore makes the story a little eerie at times, making this a simple manga to read. But, if you are a fan of deep mysteries and clever investigative work, then this manga might not be for you.
