DESCRIPTION
The story centers on a girl named Maika who gets a job at a cafe where all the waitresses are given certain attributes — such as "tsundere" or "little sister" — to embody while serving customers. The manager asks Maika to be the "Do S" (extreme sadist) waitress, so she will have to adopt a dominant and aggressive persona.

87/100How to turn character tropes into a job 101Continue on AniList“Smile, Sweet, Sister, Sadistic, Surprise, Service.” What does the S stand for? Well it can stand for many things. But I believe the opening theme may speak for itself.
Blend S stands to be my favourite Slice of Life series for Fall 2017. With its insane cast of characters and the traits each one must portray.
You may think that these are your regular characters working at your regular cafe right? Well yes basically, but it comes with a twist. Each female worker at that cafe must portray a type of character. We have the Sadist, the Tsundere, the Imouto, the Bigger Sister, and the Idol.
I will save you by saying this right now, the “Idol” character is actually a dude. You’re welcome, now you can put your boner back in your pants.
Welp back on topic, the story is very simple of course being a sol series. Maika our MC finds a new job at a rather odd cafe which she was then introduced to the system of the cafe. She finds out her Sadist trait comes as natural, she tries to be cute but it has the opposite effect. She is the sadist of the cafe. Initially I thought of ways that this would work, then I forgot the possibilities of M customers. I guess they can take it as a treat. Turns out she’s pretty good at this type of thing.
The big booby tsundere seems to be a great character as well, Kaho’s personality does relate to mine in some way ( Minus the tsundere ).
And then the imouto. I’m not sure what Japan thinks when making this 4-5 feet tall girls at the age of like 16+, but I guess it works in some way or another. She plays the Little sister at work. I do like her type as well, for it would definitely appeal to some customers.
The Older sister seems to be nice as well, I love her character design.
The idol well, well, well. I don’t have much to say about a dude.Seeing all these types of characters in one place and to see how it will play out is one of the reasons I love this show so much. It’s fun, and relaxing and pretty damn funny.
The art and animation are amazing and I love how A-1 does slice of life so spectacularly well. If I can entrust any studio to make good Moe Slice of Life, it’s A-1 no questions asked.
One of my favourite things about the series is the opening song. Admit it, it’s catchy as hell. From the beginning of the OP to the catchy chorus to the animation, everything in that OP yells out Moe and cuteness. I can’t tell you how many times I looped the first 7 seconds of the opening.
I recommend this to anyone who’s looking forward to amazing characters and funny situations along with a catchy opening and amazing interactions between each employee. Sit back and gaze upon the cuteness that is Blend S.

80/100A better-than-average slice of life/comedy with a slight twist on the typical cliché anime personalities.Continue on AniListSpoiler-free review There's not much to say about Blend-S that makes it unique compared to most other slice-of life anime, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's pretty obvious what you're getting into, and if you like slice of life shows with cute girls and solid comedy, this one's for you.
The cast consists of a bunch of cute girls (and three guys) who all portray a character/personality type for their cafe, but the twist is that it's just that, a portrayal. Most of them lean towards having the opposite personality of the character type they portray for their cafe role.
I'd say one of the biggest strengths of Blend-S compared to other shows in the same genre is that it's humor is very solid. I personally find that slice-of-life shows can get sluggish if there isn't any solid comedy thrown in to keep you engaged with the show. Blend-S does this well with the two main characters who have somewhat of a romance growing throughout the show. The "Manager" of the cafe is constantly saying or doing some hilariously stupid shit to impress the main female character, Maika.
Regarding the romance between these two, it's pretty satisfying for a slice-of-life. While there isn't any major progression, even after the later episodes teasing the possibility of it, there's still some cute romantic scenes that makes you root for the success of the couple.
As for the technical side of things, The show is on point with animation, visuals/design, and music. You've probably seen the opening already since it's a meme, and it's one of the best openings for sure. The song is catchy and the animation is super cute. I never skipped the opening once, but the ending was a different story. the ending didn't really stand out like the opening does, and the song is forgettable. The overall animation quality on the show was solid and I don't recall seeing any drops in quality. I personally find the art style to be very cute, and there are some good reaction image faces spread throughout the show.
In the end, I'd recommend the show to anyone who enjoys slice-of-life/comedy with a hint of romance type anime. I'd love a second season, especially with some more meaningful romance progression. Out of 10, I give Blend-S an 8.

76/100Fun take on the Anime Tropes with a great cast of characters.Continue on AniList[
I don't think I can spoil much but you still have been warned... ]()
I suppose.
A show that I watched on a whim but was glad I did.[PREMISE OF THE SHOW:]()
Blend S...it doesn't really have a story.
It focuses on Maika, a young gal who stumbles upons a strange cafe. This cafe is filled... cute girls doing cute things.
Each character works as a maid with their own trope (Tsundere, Sister, etc...).There is some moments of "Romance" in the show which diverts us from the usual Slice of Life we all love.
Thats about it.
[CHARACTERS:]()
Blend S has many great characters, as is to be expected from Slice of Life shows (due to the fact that they don't really have stories xd).
Each girl works as a maid in the cafe with a trope.Maiko - Sadistic.
Mafuyu - Younger Sister.
Kaho - Tsundere.
Best GirlHideri - Idol.
Miu - Older Sister. Each character, funnily enough, acts quite the opposite outside of their work hours. Maho, for example, is a cold blooded hunter who will kill anyone in their vicinity.
This whole "Trope Maids" is the main selling point for Blend S, and as said before its the reason why Blend S manages to stand out so much from the rest of the genre. It is quite fun seeing all of the different Tropes in a singular room having to interact to real people, especially with Maiko due to the fact that she cannot be sadistic despite the fact that its her job. Most of the times Maiko is sadistic its a misunderstanding or accident which added to the fun factor when watching.
[ART/ANIMATION:]()
Blend S has decent animation and art-style. The animation is quite average but the art-style does look really nice and managed to capture my interest even more.
This show likes to use a LOT of bright colours, it doesn't overdo them. It uses them just enough to make the show "pop" out more with vibrance.[MUSIC:]()
Smile, Sweet, Sister, Sadistic, Surprise, Service.I belive EVERYONE on planet Earth has seen this OP, no matter if you watch Anime or not. This has been meme'd to hell.
All of that aside it is quite a catchy OP with the animation and visuals being really good. Not gonna lie but I listen to the song sometimes due to the fact that it is so catchy. The ED is quite average if you ask me though, no where near as catchy and memorable as the OP.The OST present in Blend S is decent. More on the average side but the OP manages to make up for that.
[OVERALL OPINION:]()
Blend S seems like your average Slice of Life on the outside but manages to stand out and draw you in with its fun twist on the Tropes present in Anime/Manga community. I honestly did not think I would enjoy this as much as I did.(Side Note - Man writing stuff for SOL genre is quite tiring)
