╰┈➤ story

the manga follows the life of a shy girl named sumiru. one time, while at school, she overhears a random guy and her crush talking about what kind of girl would the latter one be into. he admits that he likes confident girls, which is the total opposite of sumiru. after that event, our main character somehow encounters a boy named nanami. he's very popular with girls, and sumiru begs him to help her become more confident. throughout the story the mc becomes more and more brave and confident in herself, and a lot of "usual romcom stuff" happens - she goes to a summer festival with friends etc.

now onto the bad stuff. i've read the manga physically and i must say that the pacing in the first volume, especially in the beginning was too fast - nanami and sumiru became friends way too quickly. as i also said in the title of the review, the ending feels as if the actual ending was cut out. if i wouldn't know the series is already finished, i'd be 100% sure that there will be one more volume. also, that one joke about domination in vol 1 was just cringe.

but there are good things to say about it, too!! even tho i said above that one of the jokes was just bad, most of the them weren't - after all, this is a manga by konkichi themself, the author of what i think is the funniest comedy ever created. i also feel like it's slightly different than your usual romcom, but maybe that's just me. it was just a cute, enjoyable manga that ended too quickly... and there was no conclusion nor any kind of payoff at the end.

the cast is what makes this manga good!! all of the characters as well as their designs are lovable and cute af. their relationship dynamics are way too sweet, too. i loved the purple-haired guy (furiya??) and the kenma-like looking girl. also, the green haired girl is like a version 2 of misuzu from tomo-chan but with a worse character design. in conclusion: it's worth it for the cast. the only thing that bothered me about the characters was that nanami got no character development at all - he still kept on mindlessly flirting with every single pretty girl in sight.

i love konkichi's artstyle!! it's so expressive and pretty. i must admit tho that on the panels that were showing some kind of a fight or sudden movement etc. i had no idea what was going on - the author probably just isn't used to drawing fight scenes, but that's alr, not like it influenced the story much.

i think i already made it clear in the "story" part, but i'm a big fan of a man who defies the world of BL - it's great, i totally recommend it!! if you're looking for something more similar to this manga tho, i'd recommend the anime ver of tomo-chan is a girl. it's a great romcom with similar qualities; it has a good sense of humor and a fun cast. you should totally watch it if you haven't yet!!

a manga that could've done much better with just a bit more effort and a few more chapters - but it's fun nonetheless!! a 8/10 for me because i loved the cast, but i'll be forever salty about the ending being so sudden and random.
