100/100One of the best manhwa of all time.Continue on AniList
One of the best manhwa/manga I've ever read. About Death (죽음에 관하여) has many themes that strike home to me personally and its overall message is simple and obvious, yet significant. I've personally have a severe anxiety of death to the point where I have to take medication– yet, this beautiful story did not incite fear, but rather a sense of serenity. With the surprisingly clever art style that give the story added vibrance and a beautiful accompanying piano soundtrack that each has its own story related to each chapter.
One of the biggest turn offs for potential readers is that the manhwa is noticeably short relative to other mangas/manhwas readers may be interested in. However, believe me when I say that this manhwa does not waste a single chapter or page. The story is so beautifully written and each chapter is so unique in nature that it truly was a splendid read.
Overall, this manhwa possesses a great blend of many elements– tragedy, happy endings, plot twists, humor, and etc. None of these elements are weak by any means when they are included into the story. The author does a fantastic job in his job of writing "About Death" and tells the tale in multiple unique perspectives. I've found myself becoming so invested in characters in a singular chapter, all of these characters portrayed emotions that did not feel forced, fake, or artificial. All of these written experiences felt genuine and real and raw.
It is difficult to portray how much I praise this manhwa, I truly believe that this is a MUST READ for anyone, no matter who you are– whether you are a detractor of manhwa or a supporter of it. You absolutely MUST give this story a read as well as listen to the soundtrack after you finish. It is truly worth your time and most definitely an experience that left me feeling genuinely impacted. At the end of the day, if you're feeling worried about your death or having an existential crisis, I highly recommend reading this manhwa to put your mind at ease.
About Death Soundtrack
A brief synopsis about the soundtrack– it is a beautifully composed piano album consisting of 12 tracks, each track has its own individual story relating to each of the stories told throughout the manga. The YouTube video above breaks the songs apart by section and I strongly recommend you listen to this as well for the full experience. The piano tracks are all deeply moving and correlates with each of the themes of the stories found in the manhwa perfectly.

95/100Spoiler-free review of About Death. What if you die today? Are you satisfied with your life?Continue on AniList════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Considerations ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ ● __This is a spoiler-free review.__ ● __90+ in my rating means "masterpiece."__ ● I've got to read this work on a friend's recommendation. I didn't look too much into the synopsis and just started reading. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Story ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ What are you going to say after your life ends? Whether you grumble with complaints or smile contentedly, it's all up to you. The story of About Death is episodic in which every episode covers a person's meeting with God. The story has its main focus on the stories of each individual and how they accept the fact of meeting God. There's a lot of philosophy and a lot of scenarios: suicidal, murderers, workaholics, and people that never even considered that they were going to die. This manga can be unpleasant to read at times. It can be frustrating at times. It can also feel like you're taking "The Matrix red pill" and waking up to harsh reality. I can't complain about any aspect of the story in general or any episodic story as I can see what the author tried to do with each. I dare say that if you look right and analyze each situation in this manga, you can see some lessons that you can put into your life. And that's why I was able to give it a 90+.__ A masterpiece, in my view, needs to be a work that has either a distinguishing trait or you're able to take something from the said work.__ ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Art Style ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The art is simple. There's not much in terms of background, and as opposed to many manhwas, it's not fully colored. There are panels with colors when those panels are made to be impactful.
The art overall is normal but not terrible. I could not spot any clear error of perspective or anything that would make me look and say "Oh, that's ugly." The focus of this manga is not its art, rather its words, so it feels like the art is just there to visually represent the idea and nothing more. ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ The Characters ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Characters are episodic and there's a fair number of different people in different situations, as I mentioned in the story section. Each one has a different reaction when meeting God. There are people that accept the fact, there are others that complain about life, and there are still others that blame others. Each interaction tries to bring light to a scenario and tries to show you situations that you could fall into. You may relate to one or other of the characters and may take a few lessons from them. As I always talk about the main character in my reviews. The main character here is God, and he is different from what I expected. God is sarcastic, kind, cruel, and full of jokes when needed. It is a very interesting interpretation of God, and I think that how God changes depending on the character is really good.
════ ⋆★⋆ ════ Conclusion ════ ⋆★⋆ ════ If you're like me, you skip everything and read only the conclusion because you don't want to get spoiled with other themes. So I will try to be brief on this point: __Read it.__ Maybe you never thought about it, but you are going to die. That's a fact. This work is perfect for showing you so many situations and making you think about your life. __Who are you? What are you doing with your life? What if you die today? What are you going to say to God?__ If you have already read this work and you are looking for something similar, or if this theme interests you, check out Usemono Yado. Intro
“There you are”
“E-Excuse me… what is this place, when I opened my eyes… I dont get this…”
“You’re dead”
“Wh-what did you say?”
“Exactly what you heard. You’re dead. Since we’ve nothing else to do on the way…
Why dont you tell me your story?”If you were to sit and think about your story, and reflect about your life, answer this question for me. If you were to die today, would you be satisfied with your life. This question can’t be easy to answer for anyone and this story made me think about this reading every chapter and even sent me into a mental panic reflecting at night while I think about my life regarding death. If I die today, what would I say or do after my life ends? Today I hope to without spoilers, recommend you a beautiful manhwa that makes you think and feel. This is the story known as Regarding Death.
Synopsis
Regarding death is an episodic webtoon of many different characters with different circumstances reflecting on their life in the face of a man named god, stuck in a white nothingness forced to think about how they lived and what they left behind. So the main focus of each chapter is the character's journey in accepting meeting god, and the reasons and way they react to meeting with God. Seeing how they regard not only their death, but more importantly their life, is the story's main focus. And so the story meets many types of people in different stages in their lives. Dealing with people such as suicidal's, murderer's, victim's, unborn, old age, and everything in between. The stories themselves are simple, and this works to the webtoon strength. The plot needs to be simple to shine on the real beauty in this story. Because the beauty of regarding death lies in it's characters and the thematics that are told through the characters.Life and Death
As a young boy I am terrified of death, there is nothing that scares me more than dying and even writing this script is making me hyperventilate. I remember the first time as a real little kid I learned that one day me and the people I love will die. I went insane. I stayed in my room for days and went into a crying and angry fit, getting mad at something that I can't even remember because of this fact. I often can't sleep thinking of the end one day. And even as someone who isn't even in his 20s yet it feels my time is almost up already. Not to mention the people I love who are double that. It's not a stretch to say I suffer my existential dread. And I think it is a common thing for people to have. And while the impact this story has can be scary, it's a needed eye opener. This webtoon made me panic, made me open my eyes again and see the reality of death. It's far too close, that we don't even notice. The story's that these characters live through can be very frustrating, sad, uncomfortable, angering, and sometimes even a little happy. And when these normal people have to face their death it wakes you up to a harsh reality. The characters in the story all have a touching backstory to give their reflection meaning and impact, but keeps the characters vague enough to self-insert. If this were any other anime or manga I'd be cringing at the fact I say you want to 'self insert' but it works perfectly here. Because all of these characters have different stories to tell, different circumstances to deal with, and different lessons to teach to us the reader, and when we insert ourselves into them it's like it makes us understand what the characters are feeling. All these stories will make you reflect and I can guarantee at least one will fit your shoe all too well that it truly brings you into the story and makes you think. If I were to die today, would I be satisfied with my life? What would I say. How would I react, regarding death.
