40/100It honestly felt like the author was writing one manga, and then started a different, worse one midway through.Continue on AniListSPOILERS FOR ZATCH BELL AND NARUTO
It honestly felt like the author was writing one manga, and then at some point midway through, had an idea for a completely different manga and just stuffed her ideas into the world she had already established (debatably even like four different series). (It's also possible she had some conflicting ideas with her editors so who knows). It ended up having a case of constant whiplash for me until the very end of the series.
While I'd like to blame the lackluster finale on the lack of a defined endpoint, there's plenty of examples of manga with no defined endpoint that had good endings (usually more-so seinen or SoL) and manga with clear endpoints with pretty bad endings, it basically all comes down to the writer's skill.
Though two series were in my head as I was reading these last two volumes: Zatch Bell and Naruto (moreso the latter). I consider Zatch Bell to have a good ending, even if the final boss kinda came out of nowhere and the story kinda skirted around the possibility of the inevitability of the protagonists having to decide which one of them would be the king. Naruto on the other hand, sure it wraps things up on a good note, but it really did kinda ruin what it had going with Obito and Madara by introducing Kagura out of nowhere. (I'd have written it to where Obito was stopped before the tree came to full fruition) It's almost like Magi did the same shit with David suddenly coming back out of nowhere to be the final boss.
Yu-Gi-Oh! also kind of had the whole jumping focus midway through the manga thing, but the difference to me was that Yu-Gi-Oh's shifts felt true to the original focus of the manga, games. Something Magi failed to achieve.
But outside of the finale and tonal whiplash, the focus on Djinn Equips led to a lot of power-up designs that left the characters looking nothing like themselves, and sometimes made fights really hard to follow as a result and everything just becoming a mess.
Though for the positives, the main cast was likeable and their interactions really kept the manga going, especially early on. The sudden timeskip, while jarring at first, set the story into an interesting direction, especially Alibaba's efforts to restore the Kou empire. Sinbad jumping to the role of an antagonist was handled better than I had been expecting it too based on the way one of my friends put it. Sinbad was the same bastard I came to grow a fondness for, just with a different motive.
Overall, I started this manga really impressed and surprised I hadn't considered reading it before, but by the end I was just hoping it would get better or at least all be worth it in the end, but I just never got that. Thing is I was enjoying the early parts enough to save the series for me in the end. Kinda reminds me of Bleach in a sense, except Magi's peak isn't nearly as good, and Magi also didn't have that natural "cool" edge to it that gave Bleach a special place in my heart even if it really dipped. (Also Bleach at least kept true to at least some of its initial focus in the end).

100/100Magi Is The Best Fantasy Anime/Manga EverContinue on AniListPlot
The plot of the Magi series: The world we live in is a corrupt world, in this universe where there is a level difference, slavery is legal and there are constant wars, a Magi named Aladdin suddenly appeared. After befriending Alibaba, they conquer a dungeon together and Aladdin chooses Alibaba as a candidate for king. Alibaba and Aladdin befriend the slave girl Morgiana they rescued in the dungeon and embark on an adventure together. Each arc in the Magi series has a unique creative theme and embroidery, there is almost no similarity between the arcs, the length of the arcs is neither too long nor too short, which I think is the ideal arc length (usually around 30-50 chapter, last arc only 100+ chapter)
WORLDBUİLDİNG
The Magi has a perfect world-building.A big universe, great mysteries, but none of these mysteries contradict each other.
Each arc deals with a different subject and we can learn about the cultures of the arc that the characters are in this arc and sometimes even the geographical features of the arc. Magic system covered, genies, dungeon, metal vessels, enchanted items, kingdoms, cosmos universe, Magi system, Alma Torran, weapons and many more elements have been elaborated, It is a work that stands out with its world building among all the fantastic works, not just among the manga.
CHARACTERS
The Magi series has a small but quality cast of characters, the character roster is less than other battle shounen series, so it provides the time needed for the characters to developEspecially the developments in the main cast are very well reflected and we learn in detail the backgrounds and ideals of all the villains in the villain cast. As a result of the events experienced by our main character's, their ties, loves, ideals, in other words, all developments are reflected to the reader in a quality way. The dynamics of the characters, shaped as a result of hundreds of episodes, add a different flavor to the series.
DYNAMİCS
The dynamics is one of the biggest elements that add flavor to the series, especially when these dynamics are of high quality, there are multiple qualities and cool dynamics in the Magi manga, there is a more or less shaped relationship between almost all the main character cast, these dynamics are sometimes born out of love and sometimes out of hatred. There are subtle and impressive dynamics not only between the main characters, but also between Solomon and his crew, Sinbad and his crew (my favorite anime/manga dynamic is Hakuryuu and Judal)
Power system
You can't see even an illogical power up in the Magi series. There are time jumps between many arcs in the series, and in these time jumps, the characters have turned to education and improved themselves. There are many important factors when adjusting the powers of the characters in the Magi series, some of which are: Magic, the ability to use weapons, learning different spells, using magic commands, physical training, mastering the djin equiq.
Magoi
Magoi is a very important factor, As you cast spells, your magoi decreases. Your Magoi level allows you to cast powerful spells, allowing you to fight for a long time. If a character's magoi runs out, they can vomit blood, get injured, or even die, the concept of stamina is completely dependent on magoi.Physical Strength = Character's Magic Level
If you are physically weak, you will be exhausted quickly and the effect of your attacks will decrease, so Aladdin, the main character of the series, is trained to increase him physical strength in the Magnostadt arc.
Magic
There are multiple types of magic: light, water, ice, sound, life, etc. There is a contrast in most of the magic types. The fire magic cast by the character can be dominated by another character using ice magic. This is true for many spells. The type of magic that emerges as a result of the coincidence of spells with each other is called karma magic. In order to use the mixed spell, you must be able to use more than one spell command
CHARACTER DESİNG
Many cultures have a great influence on the character designs in the Magi series (especially the Arab culture), most of what the characters wear in their daily lives is adjusted according to the geography they are in.
For example: In the kingdom of Sindira, Arab culture has a great influence (long clothes, turbans, etc.). At the same time, factors such as magnostadt mages and magi, which reflect the atmosphere of the series very well, make us think that the series takes place in the middle ages. The characters in the Magi series (not all) have 2 different character designs, one of them is the clothes they wear in daily life, and the other is genie imitations that can excite you even just by looking at it. Sometimes you can tell what kind of spells a person can use just by their looks.
ANTAGONİST
Almost all the villains in the Magi were born as plot twisting works. Many villains are drawn tremendously in the Magi series, every villain has ideals and reasons to be evil, sometimes even the main characters question how wrong these evil ideals are, even if the villains are defeated, they are defeated without losing their charisma, they gain a good place in the reader. The internal conflicts that are the common point of the bad guys, these internal conflicts are so logical and big that even the reader cannot decide what is right, they can reflect the inner conflict of the character to the reader,
SPOİLER
A Villain Of Magi:
Arba: Hated Solomon because he was not a good leader, Solomon's weakness caused his efforts over the years to fail, Solomon used things like doing God's true wishes, reflecting religion correctly as an excuse to lure Arba on his side. but Solomon killed God and took God's place. After these events, Arba had reason to go mad and fight Solomon. She proves to be a quality "villain" with her divine charisma, power, achievements and machinations of a depraved woman who achieved great success in the series.Sinbad's development is much better written than all the villains in the series, but his development is similar to other villains

85/100War, Slavery, and KingshipContinue on AniListMagi weaves a light-hearted adventure with deeper explorations of significant themes, gradually unveiling the complexities of its world and delving into nuanced elements of governance, leadership, slavery, and war. Magi doesn't merely present issues like slavery and caste systems and say just "evil bad"; it intricately examines and dresses down why these systems persist. Beyond serving as efficient labor forces for driving industry, they act as societal deterrents against lower-class rebellions. The stratification of society, with an even lower class barely regarded as humans, fosters a sense of gratitude among those above, discouraging dissent. The series also tackles the question of why wars occur. The concept of national boundaries and countries inherently implies division, leading to geopolitical tension and a tendency for preemptive actions by both sides. The rich tapestry of various cultures in the world of Magi naturally fosters conflicts of ideology, further fueling the fires of war and an instinct to protect what is perceived as alien. However, before delving into these weighty topics, Magi establishes itself through a strategic and engaging initial introduction. This approach aligns with other successful manga like One Piece, where the narrative gradually layers and expands the world. The effectiveness of this format lies in its ability to captivate the audience's attention and steadily introduce them to the intricacies of the story. Aladdin, as a character, makes sense as the focal character of the series who parallels the audience's introduction to the world and concepts since it's all new to him, allowing for less obtuse dialogue that comes off as immersion-breaking exposition. Aladdin naturally asks questions as his past indicates a claustrophobic and isolating early childhood and is endearing while also being somewhat perverse at times. The complex ideas and themes of the story help to interlude with the "Coming of Age Adolescent" type of story in how Aladdin will continue to experience the ever-morally dubious yet tragic elements at play in the world and attempt to grapple with them, which relates to his innate position as a Magi. In the story, the Magi are magicians that play the role of a sort of Merlin figure, endowing certain people as King Vessels and summoning dungeons as tests of Kingship. Magi plays extremely well with the idea of charismatic figures, often in a way that serves as a warning to the reader on how a sole figure, no matter how charming or skilled, should not be put in total control of the lives of others. Also, how these characters and their ability to charm is quite dangerous, as well as the danger inherent in being a leader of such effect, which can cause you to be charmed by yourself and believe in your own greatness. This is something explored by Marcus Aurelius cited as his greatest fear of being "dyed purple." This notion stems from his beliefs on material objects and staying grounded; for example, the cloak of the Roman Emperor, to Aurelius, was not a symbol of his Emperorship; it was just sheep's wool dyed with the blood of shellfish. His fear lay in the ideas inherent in self-glorification or possible deification. Magi's strength lies not just in its adventurous and lighthearted tone but in its capacity to seamlessly transition to more profound and thought-provoking themes. Through its careful layering of the world and exploration of complex issues, Magi elevates itself beyond a simple adventure story, inviting its audience to reflect on the intricacies of the human experience and societal structures. At times I think the author overshoots and is unable to balance a lot of the arcane and metaphysical aspects of the fantasy workings which leads to lot's of head-scratching parts and weird contrived logic that is unexplained the last arc has ton's aspects in this and in some ways it feels like being written into a corner overall while it fumbles in the end I think a majority of the content is quite profound and engaging.
