40/100still my biggest disappointmentContinue on AniListI've read this years ago but I'm that petty and there will be still some spoilers ahead...
~Plot~
At first glance, the story is so interesting! Soko, who is the main character, has a not so great past, family issues and definitely a terrible husband. She has an abusive husband and at one point she just can't take it anymore and asks for help. And of course she gets help from none other than your local insecure lesbian, Chiyomi. Chiyomi is an old friend of hers and it is very obvious that she was in love with Soko. Knowing this, Soko uses Chiyomi to try to save herself from her miserable life. Like I said, the plot is very interesting and there's nothing I love more than two lovers killing the abusive husband and running off together. However, the story sadly isn't just about this
~Problems~
Everything starts to get worse after Chiyomi kills Soko's husband. There are just so many things wrong with Chiyomi that I geniuenly don't know where to start. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting to see a normal relationship in this manga and I was actually into the toxic relationship they had (it was interesting to read thats all, I don't condone any of that :D). But the execution of this (and everything else) was terrible.
- First of all, Chiyomi, a lesbian that had partners before, thinks she lost her virginity when she has sex with a random dude??
What's more, she also thinks she's not enough to give pleasure to Soko because she doesn't have a dick. She says that when they're having sex and I lost my mind when I read that page. Yes, people can be insecure about themselves, yes lesbians can have lesbophobic thoughts sometimes; it's hard to deal with things like this;- But does the writer do anything to show that these ideas are wrong and destructive? NO :D. I wanted to think that she was trying to convey how these stereotypes were harmful given that she is also gay (ig? i saw something like that?) but nah it ended being lesbophobic af.
- Chiyomi was also kind of shown as a predetor who can't controll herself around Soko and if I remember correctly, there was a rapey incident between them too??? How much worse can you make it for the lesbians Nakamura!!!! That's one of the worst stereotypes about lesbians, actually Chiyomi's character is just bad stereotypes all in one and I hated to see it.
~Anything good to say?~~
The visuals are beautiful. I loved the style a lot and it actually helped me while I was suffering with what I was reading.
~Overall~
The plot is soo good and interesting so it's a shame that Nakamura decided to go this way with the story. I really don't know why she decided this way, maybe she wanted something about terrible characters, maybe these characters were reflecting destructive thoughts that one can have, but I just hated it lol, i guess it wasn't for me. I really wanted to like this manga but I couldn't, the problems I talked about threw me off completely. All these things might be interesting for you maybe but personally, I wouldn't recommend this.
