DESCRIPTION
Ever since he was little, Souma Yukihira’s main goals have been to beat his father in a cooking contest and take over the family diner. That’s why, when his dad suddenly announces that he’s shutting the restaurant down and sending Souma to cooking school, Souma is shocked. However, Totsuki Academy is no ordinary cooking school. This elite institution is filled with culinary giants like Erina “God Tongue” Nakiri, who does her best to keep a lowly short-order like Souma from even making it inside the door. However, if the snobs can dish it out, Souma can serve it up, and when he learns that only a handful of the students manage to graduate every year, he swears that the only way he’ll leave is as number one!

84/100Impressive animations, funny scenes and good entertainment.Continue on AniListFood Wars: Shokugeki no Souma / 食戟のソーマ ____You like food and cooking? Watch it! You don't like food and cooking? Watch it! You'll change your mind.____ __Synopsis__: Yukihira Souma works with his dad at the family restaurant, that's all Souma wants. He puts all his passion in the family restaurant but one day his father has to close it because he leaves Japan and helps out a old friend in America. His father then convinces him to sign up for a elite culinary school the graduation rate is very low and it's a really famous culinary school all over Japan. So Yukihira Souma decides to face the task his father left him and thinks that this is going to be a easy one, but soon he finds out that this school and its students aren't that easy to beaten.
__Plot:__ The Anime mainly shows the protagonists story, everything you see has a connection to Yukihira this isn't bad it's actually pretty interesting but in some points I really wished to see something else, anyway he fights his own way through the elite school and faces tasks you may think is impossible to solve, but not for him. It's like a sport show but only with food, they compete against each others with their best skills and knowledge. In the first half of the anime Souma has no problems against his competitors he has no big problems but in the end of the anime it gets intense the competitors give their best and that's the point Souma knows that there a few guys he can't compete right know, but in the near future. This happened at the end of Season 1 I'm sure that Season 2 will not be so easy for him, I hope that. The whole anime is decorated with comedy and amazing dishes. I don't lie when I say that I starved watching this delicious anime!
__Characters:__ I love all characters especially because everyone is so individual, at the beginning i had problems remembering the names of the characters because there were many, but at the end the set gets smaller. I really like the characters in Soumas hostel, they are like a small family and it's very heartwarming seeing them together. In the end of the anime you'll know the most important ones, and the main part I think happens in Season 2 of Shokugeki no Souma in Season 1 you'll get many information about the characters for example what are their specialty and hows their connection.
__Animation & Music__ Music, this is the only point i missed. There is music and good music too but the point is you can't really concentrate on the music because your eyes fell in love with the animation and that is the only thing you want to see. I really liked the opening and ending and watched it every episode. The music in the opening and ending is really good and that's it, I haven't heard anything better in the anime or maybe I was just distracted. Now the most positive thing I like is the animation.. It's amazing they really made a anime worth watching, the details of the food I was just shocked how good it is I really have no words for this. They have put a lot of work in the little things which came out big.
___All in all, a good anime worth watching, your eyes will love it but I'm not sure if your stomach will...___ I hope you guys liked this review and I hope I could convince you watching this masterpiece. Shokugeki no Souma taught me many things about food and cooking! I really liked the scenes after they ate something delicious especially Soumas experimentation with squid tentacles. Watch it!

Food Wars!, or Shokugeki no Soma is a Japanese shounen manga series, which was written by Yuuto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. Due to big success, the manga received an anime adaptation by J.C.Staff, which aired between April 3, 2015 and September 25, 2015 and a second season, which began airing on July 2, 2016. The anime tells the story of a boy named Souma Yukihira, who has a dream to become an owner of his father's restaurant and to surpass his father as a chef. However, when Souma graduates from middle school, his father, Jouichirou Yukihira, gets a new job abroad and closes his and Souma’s restaurant. Souma cannot accept the fact that his father chooses a new work and tries to persuade his father to stay. But Souma’s father has a task for his son: Souma should become a student of Toutsuki Saryou Ryouri Gakuen and to learn to be a top-class chef. Everything seems to be easy, but after some time Souma finds out that Toutsuki is one of the most prestigious educational establishment in Japan, where only 10% of the students manage to graduate. Strange as it may seem, Souma is not afraid of his father’s challenge and he immediately decides to become a top student it Toutsuki. Will Souma surpass his father and become a pro in cookery? Find out the answer now!
While the plot of this series sounds average, I want to assure you that this anime has many things to offer. Souma is just a normal young man, who does not have “money to buy everything he wants.” But his father makes him join an educational establishment that was built by the rich for the rich: almost every student of Toutsuki has a bodyguard and enough influence to do whatever they want. Funny thing is that in Toutsuki your background does not mean anything, you can be rich, you can be poor, it does not matter. You must, however, be a splendid chef. And Souma will have to fight against these monsters with millions, or even billions of dollars on their bank accounts to prove that he is better. And the most important thing about that is that Souma does not only win, sometimes he is defeated; however, his desire to become better, his desire to fight, makes the story-line truly interesting.
The animation and sounds are also on the level. Not only character designs, but also the food makes you want to cook something delicious. The creators of Food Wars! spend enough time and money on the animation, making cooking look more like a fistfight than anything else. The sounds and the voice acting; however, deserve a special mention. The OST is so awesome that it helps you to dive into the atmosphere of this series and to be more prepared for what is about to happen. Truth be told, I have never called a shounen “epic”, but thanks to the OST of Food Wars! I can say that this anime is truly epic sometimes. But the OST is not the only thing that I should mention, the voice acting is also amazing: all characters seem to be real, their emotions, their deeds; the Japanese cast did one hell of a job voicing their characters.
I cannot say that the characters of Food Wars! are absolutely flawless and I cannot say that Souma, the main protagonist of the series, is just an imitation of his ancestors from other shounen series. Souma is not perfect, sometimes you just do not want him to repeat all these cliché of his ancestors. (Not noticing that some girls love him, for example). But, at the same time, Souma is different because he is the true warrior, he is the true man. His aim to become the top, his aim to become the best. His is not a prodigy, he is not a billionaire, he is just a normal young man with his own dreams. Sometimes he is defeated, sometimes he does not know what to do, but he works hard and achieves what he wants. And I must say that his charisma is truly contagious. However, the main problem of this anime is supporting characters. They are so dull and boring that sometimes you just want to skip their scenes. Of course, I am not going to say that they all are bad, some of them are very interesting to follow. But I guess that more attention should have been spent on the supporting characters.
I am glad that I discovered Food Wars! I could have never imagined that Souma would be that good. There will surely be some moments, when you are unsure if you should watch it, or not. Take for example “these foodgasms.” But, come on, it should not be the reason for you to not watch this series. In my opinion, the way they portrayed the way characters enjoy food is not that bad. I mean, delicious food is able to drive you to orgasm and if you do not agree with me, I am sorry to say that, but you have never tasted something truly delicious.
All in all, Food Wars! is an anime I would surely recommend to all my friends and if I were you, I would do the same. Souma’s desire to become the best and his character are truly fascinating. He is not afraid to practice, he is not afraid to be wrong, he spends a ton of time to surprise everyone. And he is able to amaze not only his friends and enemies, but also the viewer. Anyways, to make long story short, I would recommend you to give this anime a try. But please, if you want to drop this series, watch what will happen in the summer camp; it will become much more interesting from this point. But if it is still not enough for you, you can drop this anime after Souma’s summer camp.
Anyways, I hope that you will enjoy Food Wars!

90/100Food Wars hits all the notes as a food battle shounen, but it won't appeal to those wanting a deeper experience.Continue on AniList(DISCLAIMER: I won't really go into any spoilers with this review, but I will be covering my thoughts on Food Wars through season 3, so it's not limited to season 1)
Food Wars is causing me to suffer through my worst bout of post-anime depression in a long time, maybe ever. It has been so long since I binged a series so hard. The last thing that comes to mind that was comparable was Oregairu last summer, and even Oregairu didn't smack me with as much depression once I finished binging it. The simple fact was that I enjoyed watching Food Wars that much. It was something magical to me even with its absurd premises and foodgasms. No, I don't think it's perfect, but did I enjoy it enough to give it a spot among my favorites? Yes. Yes, I did.Technically speaking, Food Wars is no marvel in the world of anime. It's animation is solid, nothing spectacular; it's sound is pretty good, not like it needed to blow you away anyway. But musically speaking, Food Wars is great. The Openings and Endings do leave something to be desired beyond the season one's first cour, but they're passable. That being said, the true strength of Food Wars lies in its soundtrack. All the songs involving the battles are perfectly atmospheric, be it the intense cooking songs, or the satisfying victory theme. The character tracks deserve a special mention for their quality as well. They capture the specific character almost flawlessly, the regal theme for Erina being my personal favorite, but Hayama's Indian inspired theme and Ryo's rock theme are great examples too. The soundtrack really drives Food Wars above the rest in terms of hype levels. There are moments that have the potential to fall flat, but are instead elevated to epic levels because of the soundtrack alone. On top of those things alone, the voice acting in Food Wars is superb. Soma's voice actor without question deserves a mountain of praise for how dynamic he is with showcasing Soma's emotions. Not only that, but apparently Erina had a voice actor change in season 3 and I never even noticed, major props for that.
But why do I love Food Wars? It's really simple honestly, it's the characters. It's rare for an anime to make me love nearly every character. Personally, I think the best example of another show doing the same thing is Monogatari. But where Monogatari did it via its arcs dedicated to certain characters, Food Wars does it in a more ensemble way, leading to more shallow side characters, but extremely likable main characters. It helps that most of the main cast is fairly one dimensional, but it's a shounen, there's not a lot of extremely deep characters in shounen in the first place. Even if what I have just described sounds somewhat run-of-the-mill for a show, trust me when I say that it all comes together and works wonders. Who knows, maybe it just appeals to my love of ensemble casts with ecchi harem inspirations, but it just works for me. Maybe it doesn't with others, but to me, this is a perfect cast.
(I really felt like adding this section to my reviews, since characters are such an important factor in anime for me. I'm going to start putting this section in to my reviews from here on out to add a more personal touch!)
Favorite Character: Erina NakiriBig surprise, I love the blonde tsundere. Honestly though, I was a hair away from putting Soma here instead. But in the end, I remembered how much I looked forward to Erina's scenes that I realized, even if Soma is my main man, he wasn't the character I loved the most. Soma was the one I cheered for throughout the entire series, experiencing his ups and downs with him and really growing to appreciate his character, despite his tropey clueless nature. But Erina was the character I instantly loved the moment she appeared on screen. I'm a huge sucker for the Soma x Erina ship, I kinda just want season 4 for more of their interactions if I'm being completely honest with myself. Speaking of ships since it's such a huge part of my anime experience, I really liked how Food Wars dealt with such topics, basically confirming that Soma and Erina were a thing in episode 2 ( or was it 1, I can't remember). I just really appreciated letting everyone know that this was the canon ship, keeping us away from the dark waters that could have been Megumi x Soma. Tangent aside, I also considered Alice and Ryo for this, but I figured that even though I really liked both of them, they couldn't hold a candle to Soma or Erina in my book.
With all the praise I've sung about Food Wars, I have to pause a bit and say that this is all personal preference. The ridiculousness of the food battles isn't for everyone. It could get old fast for those who think that it's over the top. All I would say to those people is, if the first episode doesn't appeal to you, you may as well stop, because you're going to get a lot of the same general thing from there on out. But I hope that my enthusiasm for Food Wars has shown and can maybe inspire you to watch it, because in my opinion, it's worth it.``
