67/100"I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it": the edgelord isekai revenge story.Continue on AniListWhen an anime opens with a scene of child abuse, you know it's going to be a mess. And a mess this is.
To get things out of the way: this anime is not good, by any stretch of the imagination. However, if you like what it's bringing to the table, you'll probably enjoy it anyway. I know I did.
Content warning: This anime contains depictions of child abuse, bullying, sexual harassment and rape threats against most of the major female characters, premeditated murder committed by a protagonist, abysmal cost-cutting CGI, and in general a crapsack world where only the worst can ever come out on top and anyone who is nice is going to end up worse off for it. Also, this review may contain unmarked spoilers.
The general premise is that a bus full of high school students, all either terrible people, bullied into silence/complicity by the terrible people, or both, ends up isekai'd into a crapsack world. There, the goddess Vicius (a very fitting name) tells them they're heroes, that they have ranks for their power, and gets them to turn against the lowest-ranked person: our protagonist, Touka Mimori. He gets banished to certain death, but is able to survive because his "terrible" skill is in fact overpowered. And swears revenge on Vicius for fucking him over.
It's my understanding that this is likely the usual tropes of the subgenre, though I'm not familiar enough with it to know for sure. What I do know is that it's not going to appeal to everyone.
Expectation-setting spoiler for plot progression with this adaptation:
If you're looking for closure, you won't find it here. The anime as it is now ends on a cliffhanger of a plot hook. Touka is not yet at the point where he can take his revenge, nor does he meet any of his former classmates by the end of episode 12. There's the beginnings of a romance subplot, but it barely gets off the ground.
Touka as a character is very edgelord-appeal. He's not particularly empathetic, barely hesitating before murdering not just monsters but people, and at times seems to enjoy it. What he does have is pragmatism, forming (mutually beneficial) alliances with people he thinks would be useful for his goals.
The other isekai'd characters are sidelined for large chunks of the story, as Touka was forcibly separated from them and he's the protagonist doing protagonist things half a continent away. That said, they, and Vicius, do appear every so often.
The plot comes across as contrived in places. Lots of conveniences that benefit Touka, so you'd probably need some level of "turning your brain off" to tolerate it.
The animation quality is... mediocre at best. Close-up shots are decent-enough 2d animation; distance shots and also monsters - of which there are many - are CGI, and really noticeably awkward CGI at that. Stiff movement is very obvious in those scenes. But again, if you can turn your brain off, it's close enough to watchable.
The music is fine. I did enjoy the opening theme, and the rest of it didn't feel out of place to me.
In conclusion:
If you like revenge stories where everyone's a terrible person but the protag's at least a sympathetic terrible person, and don't mind lowering your standards, it's possible to enjoy this. Would I recommend it? Not really, unless you're looking for exactly this sort of edgelord isekai revenge story for mindless edgy fun.
To repeat the review summary: I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it.

40/100A good example of how bad CGI could bring down the reputation of an animeContinue on AniListI almost wanted to dub this as one of the worst anime, but I remembered that I have seen much worse. But if I want to describe how this anime makes me feel, it would be frustration.
Let's break the anime down. The very thing that got me frustrated is the CGI animation. As I have mentioned in another review of mine, I can never understand why an animation company is incapable of fine tuning the graphics of the CGI to make it blend in with the background. The CGI was so glaringly obvious it just takes a huge amount of points away.

While I do have high expectations of companies who specialises in animation, I also can somewhat understand if they use CGI for certain scenes like battles or fight scenes. I mean, comparing to just idling around, those can be difficult to animate based on my general understanding. However, it also does not give a good reason as to why they are incapable of doing so as there are quite a number of anime who has much flashier battles, yet the animation and graphics does not show the glaring obvious difference.

Anyway, excusing the need to use CGI on battle and fight scenes, things like idling around, talking or just making some gestures were also introduced by the CGI. HOW LAZY CAN YOU BE IN ANIMATING THEM? They are practically doing nothing and just idling around, discussing plans or even just walking, and even that needs to be CGI?

This is definitely one of the most focal point of how bad this anime is. However, let's not dwell on this any longer.
The next thing I want to talk about is the storyline and the setting of the world. Because the story started with our main protagonist being abused, it kind of made sense that the story would be kind of dark as it progresses. And it delivered.
Now, I am not a huge fan of depressing storylines, especially one as dark as this. But the way the world was created, it just gives off a sense of normalcy, if it makes any sense... Unlike other anime where the protagonist emerged from a death-certain dungeon with overpowered strength and could easily defeat thousands of foes with just a flick of their hand, this anime gives a more realistic view of the battle.
In one scene, the protagonist's group accidentally revealed their location after killing a monster which appeared out of nowhere. Due to that, a hoarde of monsters were stampeding their way towards them. Touka, the protagonist, weighed their odds and concluded that he has a higher chance of survival, but he also knew he would not come out unscathed.

Overall, this anime actually has some potential to become a good anime, but I think what really pulls it down is the CGI. The animators just needs to stop being lazy and fine tune the graphics even more.

20/1002/10 - some series must be below 10, so other would be compared and put higher. This is one of those series.Continue on AniListPlot: 1/10
There is nothing worth watching in this series. Nothing original, nothing in plot is interesting, no emotion during battles. You always know that protagonist will succeed, so there are no stakes. You know the plot in advance if you watch any other mediocre/bad isekai. And the moment you notice that entire class was moved to another earth you can be sure about entire copy of a copy of isekai tropes. If you want bad anime series like that, there is already Arifureta. Only thing that will surprise you is how bad characters can be in the series.Characters: 1/10
I cannot call characters two dimensional, because it would imply second dimension in their character. Instead of writing this, original author should go to the therapy about his childhood. Protagonist is just author's power fantasy. It is clearly he sees himself as silent hero, that is dangerous when he will get angry. This is on level when you feel cringe by watching someone's fantasies about how he is only great person among failures and bullies.Visual: 2/10
Wow. Talk about disrespect for a customer. This is the cheapest use of CGI. It looks like they would hire some students and paid them with "exposure". I had to rewatch some scenes at the beginning as I couldn't believe that they done something that bad. 2/10 as I watch two or three things in my live on the lower quality.OST: 3/10
It isn't annoying, this is the best thing I can say about music. Not a single note here will make you want to hear that again, nothing here is worth listening after the series. And nothing here makes good composition with visual or plot. It just exist to not make the series to silent.2/10 - only reason that it is not 1/10 is that I seen worse. Seiyuu here are the blandest cast possible.I am not sure, if they counted on mindless customer, or some dotation, or they needed the failing product to create fake cost for company to get some tax evasion. I could believe in any option from this three. Only thing that I will not believe, is that somebody was reading light novel or its manga adaptation and for real thinked, that this will make great anime.
At last it is not a harem series (yet), but dont get hyped. Author will not hurt your eyes with goot male characters anyway. Everybody must be either some kind of sadist of murderous pervers. Or just background male to be killed off, to not reduce women population from the "hero class".
Power scaling, ability system, etc - everything is just cheapest copy of better series (better or equally bad), so not even worldbuilding made me happy.Instead of this series I can recommend you watching on youtube Hair Dryer Sound 174 and Three Fan Heaters Sound, it will be 9 hours better spent.
