55/100A show about vtubers is a cool idea but wasted potential overallContinue on AniListThis review contains spoilers. Proceed at your own discretion.
I think there is a lot of wasted potential with this one. Generally, I do like Ganbatte-shows, because they are about hard work and passion, and succeeding at something even if the odds aren’t good. Kizuna Allele, in addition, is also an anime about VTubers, and that opens up interesting topics as well regarding the internet, internet culture, and how it feels like to slip into a role because that’s what a lot of VTubers seemingly do. I personally don’t watch VTubers, therefore I was interested in diving a bit into the topic via a potentially interesting story and charming characters because I don’t have the investment to watch these hours-long streams.
And Kizuna no Allele… sometimes does cover some of that. With Miracle as the protagonist, we see the charm of Vtubing, the possibilities within the digital space and why someone would be interested in becoming a Vtuber, and how it is to inspire people or be inspired (arguably the main topic of the series). It also covers with Marumaru how it feels like to not be seen, to struggle to put your foot forward and how unsatisfying it can be. When it dealt with topics like that, and even if it’s often blunt and not brilliantly done, it worked for me, because these concepts and feelings resonated with me and I was able to fill in a lot of blanks myself. As an artist, quite a few things said in this show hit kinda home. The character cast, as it is, is also not bad - Although Riz is just there and not nearly as explored as Chris, Noelle and Quan. But the characters are likable, especially Chris grew fast on me and I enjoyed her interactions with Miracle. Chris herself is a bit of a phenomenon though, enjoyed her presence in every scene.
But well, as I hinted before, this show wasted a lot of potential. The setting is already odd - Why is the premise that the characters are in a fictional academy which is pure wish-fulfillment (I mean free meals, AI assistant, exclusively Vtuber classes, no relatives…), erasing pretty much the real-life portion of being a Vtuber? It’s so odd and made the anime overall a lot less interesting. It also shows that they had less to work with because the topics explored here are rather few - There are some which worked for me, they could’ve done so much more with a show about Vtubers. But well, at least we got NFT advertisements. That’s a win, right? (Just to be clear I’m being sarcastic here.)
For a show which talks a lot about the endless possibilities it’s also mostly rather uninspired - Even the songs which seem to be the selling point because we get at least one live performance each episode are only few, and at some point, there was only one song melody which was played pretty much all the time and the only thing which changed are the lyrics. And be it the live performance stage or the hangout spots of our protagonists, they are always the same. The last episode was the only episode to switch things up in that regard.
But the biggest issue is the script and the storytelling - It’s not good. I was pretty okay with blunt delivery regarding the topics because I was able to add depth to them through my own feelings and experiences, but the writing also fails in other areas. Towards the end, every episode had to introduce a new conflict which was not only terribly predictable in how it will be solved but also wasn’t emotionally effective either, because the script and storytelling failed to convey why the characters are so upset and why it hurts them so much. The show just tells you that they are upset, but just from getting told that you can’t just magically emphasize with them or relate to their struggles. The dialogue is also often just awkward, making the cast seem like cardboard tropes. And that works for comedy, but outside of that it just makes the show seem badly written.
Production-wise it also didn’t get a particularly favorable treatment - Animation is very limited and the overall aesthetic is plain. However, I do like the character designs.
To sum up, Kizuna no Allele was a pretty nice watch when it resonated with me, apart from that it was either boring or pretty mediocre. It’s a pity how much potential was wasted here.

10/100So... Please don't watch this garbageContinue on AniListBefore The Review

- I'm not a fan of Kizuna or any other VTuber so my opinion is based entirely on the showThe most difficult part while making this review was knowing where to start thrashing this garbage, I can't allow myself to be objective about a product so poorly made that it ruined the reputation of WIT STUDIOS as one of the best Studios of all time. Please enjoy the review that I made in a few hours but it's probably better than the whole damn show.
So ... a little summary, the show is about a girl named Miracle who wants to be a great VTuber like Kizuna, to do this, she enrolls in ADEN academy where she meets a lot of idols wannabes and they sing a song and... well that's it, there is a plot there but they did nothing with it.
Animation
The 2D animation is fine, but sometimes it hurts the eye the number of colors in a single scene. I had one problem with the designs, you can't tell whether they are in the real world or the ADEN academy, they could've easily solved that by changing the character designs but they didn't
As for the music videos, as I said, I'm not a fan of Vtubers, that includes the designs and the music videos, but I don't exactly hate it, so I wouldn't mind if there was a ton of that in the show. The thing is that it's the SAME FCKING DANCE, there are 12 episodes, and like 8 of them have the same damn song with the same dance but with a different model. Miracle says something like: "My dANcE NOw CaN BE mORe FlaSHy bECAusE yoU iNSpIREd Me" but it doesn't fcking matter because it's the same song, same dance, same everything. I know this could be due to low budget but if that's the case, why would you do the show in the first goddamn place?
Voice Acting
It's Whatever, the voices are relatively new so I wasn't expecting something, the songs (or should I say the song?) are well sung so no complaints.
Music
GOOD LORD, where do I begin?
The intro and ending are way too generic, even for an idol show it's generic as hell, but the worst part is the songs included in the show because remember, this is a MUSIC ANIME so why are there like 4 songs in a loop throughout the whole fucking series, and none of them are good, they are as generic as you can think, but not generic good like Idolm@ster or LoveLive, NO, generic as every other idol show that ripped off Idolm@ster and LoveLive.
Other Aspects
-
In another review that I did a while ago about Your Lie In April, I didn't write a lot about the story because I wanted to praise how the music, the animation, and everything else helped a lot to make the story way more enjoyable, even though the story is still the best part about it. The complete opposite happens here, the story is almost non-existent and the animation and music do nothing to help, instead, they make the story even worse.
-
The NFT segments were ... something
-
There's a second season coming out rn but if you're not a masochist I'd recommend passing out this show
-
How the hell can a VTuber be reborn?
-
Kizuna appears at the start with a song and then gets lost (literally) for the rest of the season
Conclusion
Skip this show, there are a lot of music animes way better out there, don't even watch it even if you're a Kizuna fan because there is nothing about her to enjoy past the first 10 minutes. This has ruined my perception of WIT Studio and I expect to see nothing as sh*t as this ever again.

50/100An uninspired idol show for a specific audience.Continue on AniListI agree with the other reviews here. At the beginning I thought I was hoping to watch some kind of series where the characters will study to become the idols. So I was expecting a lot of music related stuff. Like composing lyrics, taking inspiration from quests to make dances...
But then, it was kind of eclectic, so to speak. For instance, there was an episode where the girls entered a game RPG-like and they just played there with no relation to the main plot of the series. Others were more on topic, like composing lyrics, for instance. But then the last ones, I mean, a skateboarding competition? It was kind of iontersting because it was different, but not related whatsoever to the main plot.
I also was expecting some kind of turning point or plot twist regarding one of the characters, but that never came. You end the series without knowing some of the aspects of the characters. It was very anti-climatic and disappointing.
Maybe I am a guy, but I was not feeling any kind of connection with the characters. I must say that shoujo is not usually my thing, but I have see series and I like some of them. Little Witch TV Academia it was a not that bad series about girls in a witch academy.
They had to solve obstacles, study and in the middle of all of that they became friends. But, as said, here in that Kizuna series there was not that kind of progression. Only the firsts episodes or some random ones were kind of interesting if you like music—or idols, specifically.
There is even a second season that I don't understand why it is there. It is not that I am refusing to watch it, but after just finished the first one, I think I am going to make a pause to start watching it hoping two things. That it gets better or that I am in another mood and I don't think about dropping it from the first episode.
Overall, a TV series that targets more feminine personalities, kind of boring. As I have said previously, I think the show could have benefit of some kind of progression. Like on each episode, for instance, assigning a study, compose lyrics, how to dress properly... Also the video sequences dancing and stuff... uhm, not my cup of tea.
I was also expecting a big ending with some kind of competition, but as I also already said, not a skateboarding competition not related whatsoever with the main plot of the show, or the supposedly main plot.
It is also worth noting that I just watched from two to three episodes per day. I think if I were to watch more than that I probably should have drop the series before the five episode. So, of you are up for show to watch sparingly, this may be your kind of show.
