90/100Zaregoto series, my friend's friend is the friend killed by my friendContinue on AniListINTRODUCTION
This review will deal with the first and second books as a single story divided into two parts, this does not necessarily happen for the last three volumes and in this review there’ll be SPOILER instead of the other ones.
I think this is the longest story compared to the previous ones, and in my opinion the one with the best crime when it comes to the mere structure of it.
Having said that, I wish you a good reading, hoping that I will be able to review this story well, which is much more complex to analyse than the others.Summary
Our protagonist's exploits continue, this time he will have to help Tomo save one of the members of his cyber-terrorist group, Gaisuke Utsurigi.
The member is trapped in a research lab affiliated with the Kunagisa group, but something strange seems to be happening in that lab....General Plot
The story starts with a very simple incipit which will turn into a classic situation of a closed-door crime, aggravated by the time limit and the impossibility for our protagonists to escape.
All this suspense is highly increased up to the incredible ending, which as usual completely changes everything making you re-evaluate the situation, almost to make you understand how the truth that the reader knows is different from that of the characters and that only the author knows the actual reality (maybe).
Personally I think that it is one of the slowest books to read because the entire first volume is a large introduction which is not too essential and which could indeed be summarized, but if I found it the slowest so far it was paradoxically the one with the best structured crime, unpredictable and with a very good development of the characters.Characters
In these two volumes, our dear protagonist sees himself very closely involved in the story, not only for the blue girl but also for himself as he is trapped in the laboratory (in fact we know that he don’t mind if he dies but he will surely fight with all of his strength to don’t waste his life). We see him throughout the novel running and committing himself, perhaps more than in the other novels precisely because here the safety of that girl that he says he hates and wants to destroy is seriously at stake. The highest point, however, is reached in two points: 1. When wounded by the dog he believes he's dying and reveals to himself almost as a revelation or perhaps an observation that he loves her, trust me even though it was obvious for us and for practically all the rest of the cast, for him it wasn't obvious at all. 2. The realization of the bullshit against him doesn't particularly shake him as he knew he could expect it, yet I felt within the lines that perhaps the worst of human beings has sunk a little deeper. In retrospect it's almost ironic that the only one character who always wears a mask here really opened up for the first time, while all the other main actors pretended to be what they weren't... __Tomo Kunagisa__ In this book, as in the first, there is a lot of focus on Tomo Kunagisa, but this time only on her and not purely on the relationship with the protagonist. I think that one of the final goals of this book (besides introducing new characters and enlarging the lore) is just to explain that in reality Tomo's appearance is a huge deception and that she too is capable of performing despicable actions in order to safeguard herself, even deceive the only person she loves by tricking him into setting up a farce . It also reinforces what had been said in the previous volumes, the fact that she only and exclusively cares about herself and also Ii even if here, as in the other volumes, this is threaten like a secondary thing. If you stop for a moment to reflect, the image you end up with of Kunagisa is that of a girl with a deceptive appearance, who never understands what she really thinks or what she wants, willing to sacrifice everything and everyone for herself and Ii-chan's sake. Coincidentally in the first volume Maki Himena said she was unable to read Tomo's head, and only now we can really understand what this means, such an enigmatic person willing to do anything and even a genius in the Informatic field, a person of the genre is really very very dangerous and these 2 volumes have served the author to reiterate it very clearly. __Utsurigi Gaisuke__ Utsurigi Gaisuke, one of the new characters introduced and closely related to Kunagisa Tomo, is a character defined by all as perverse beyond belief and almost repulsive, with a strong idolatrous obsession with Tomo Kunagisa. Having worked with her for a long time under the nickname of Green Green Green or Malignant Bacteria, he knows very well Kunagisa and some of her secrets such as the one concerning her birth. I think this character will have a lot to say later especially in a confrontation with Ii-chan since our protagonist this time has been deceived by everyone, and obviously I expect a comparison not too long but in my opinion 2 lines of dialogue would still be a lot interesting. __Neon Suzunashi__ Neon Suzunashi, another of the characters introduced in these volumes, the third component of the trio formed by Tomo, She and Ikkun and represents the reasonable part of the group, perhaps better to say "diplomatic part". A girl with a unique and elegant style that one could even mistake her for a man; in a situation where the protagonist is no longer the cold calculating and reasonable part, there is a need for someone to assume this role, and that is actually what he does even if he has had a very well balanced average centrality in my personal opinion.
>__Conclusion__ And finally to conclude I would like to summarize by saying that this book, mainly served to show one side of the most important character- that none of us would have ever imagined by reopening the mystery concerning his character and the dark past that surrounds the two protagonists, a past that will necessarily be disclosed and explored. So a chapter that despite its slowness compared to the others can be read well, still putting irons in the fire by preparing the situation for the explosion that will happen in the next volume...
~~~
