98/100My Favorite Dance: A Complex and Dark Tale of Their Hate & LoveContinue on AniListReview:
Intense, complicated, dark, and alluring. The most complex relationship I have ever read and enjoyed, along with an amazing narrative.
Art: 7.5-8 /10
In the beginning, I stayed for the plot alone. On a technical scale, the art wasn’t the best quality and scored a 5/10 on my scale. It did the job—but the artist quickly grew artistically and ended up creating beautiful panels of our characters and story. Soon, the art justified the amazing story, revealing the allure of the main characters, the poetry and symbolism, and a full showcase of artistic talent.
I loved the character design and the style of the art. As the story progressed, it only got better. Seeing the artist grow before my eyes was amazing, and witnessing how far they came was a privilege.
(I just know though that if the art was more attractive in traditional and mainstream means it would be viral and #1 on the charts- because that's how good the narrative is- but I swear the art is gorgeous it just takes time to see it)
Characters: 10/10
The amount of layers, complexities, and motives behind every character was insane. Each character had so much significance to the story in the big picture. Not a single word, expression, or moment between them felt pointless or wasted.
I ended up feeling sympathetic toward everyone, even the most unexpected characters—ones I thought I could never understand or feel bad for. The psychology, secrets, emotions, tension, chemistry, and relationships were all top-tier. It was clear the author crafted them with immense thought and detail.
Story: 10/10
First, the romance was amazing. Not a single dull moment between the main characters. They were unpredictable, thrilling, and filled with emotion. It was one of the best, most complex relationships I’ve ever read. It was more than romance—it was a dance, showing how they began, developed, and ended. And through it all, they were more loyal to each other, even as enemies, than anyone else in their lives.
But this story was more than just romance. It was a thrilling, grand chess game, filled with twists and surprises. Every time you thought you knew where the story was going, another revelation came to light. By the end, there were beautiful callbacks to the beginning, reflecting how far everyone had come. It captured a journey, not just a destination.
This story made me care, respect, and even cry for characters I initially hated. The narrative draws out such contrasting and complicated emotions, making you hate and love almost every character. It’s rich in narrative, with moments of heartwarming vulnerability and stark fear.
It was also poetic, prompting reflection—something rare in romance manhwas and webtoons.
I wouldn’t change anything about the plot. If anything, I wanted more chapters with the characters. It was bittersweet to see it end, but I’m excited for what the author and artist create next.
Despite the very unrealistic themes of vampires and wealth, the story captures a realistic portrayal of humanity. Every character is morally grey, showing “ugly” sides that made me like them more because it felt real.
I cried at the end. How could I not?
I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a complex, dark, and intense romance. Big emphasis on dark—there are many morally grey aspects to the relationship... But I am into that, so I was giggling and chilling.
If you love a good enemies-to-lovers trope, this is a must-read as well. This story is destined to go down as one of the best. I’ll recommend it to my daughter someday and reread it once I’ve forgotten enough in a few years. <3
