100/100(our) Hearbreak, Abuse of many kinds and Healing: The JourneyContinue on AniListLook: if you got mommy issues, this comic is for you. If you got daddy issues, it's for you as well, just not as often. If you like ghosts and haunted houses filled with dumbass children, you will love it.
This story looks pretty silly and unassuming, honestly, but it's about abuse, upbringing and healing from it. It has successful stories and people who are still in the middle or beginning to heal. It's also about bullying, a lot, and the perspectives society has over those who are vulnerable to judgement. You might cry, because I cried, and I don't usually cry.
First, we got Haejoon Goh. You will love him. You will get exasperated often at him, and pity him pretty hard, but you will fall in love even when he commits violence. Oh yea, he's also very violent, because that's the only language bullies understood. His mom and he could see ghosts, and they were very ostracized by society. You will want to blame his mom sometimes, (she didn't really need to bring more ghosts in, but I guess she was coping over them two being so lonely), but when you understand... You will get the heartbreak (hint: a child whose family culture is weird but not harmful shouldn't be bullied. His mom did her best, and she was also poor, but she's the best mom regardless, and she raised him to be a kind person. If she saw someone hurting him, she would protect him like a mom bear. But her reputation was already bad and nothing could fix it besides other people's kindness, that were lacking). So, Haejoon is a traumatized, bullied, scary and scared kid who broke while still young. AND PEOPLE KEEP STEPPING ON HIS TRAUMA AND TRIGGERING HIM BY ACCIDENT. It's painful to watch.
And then he meets Eunyung Baek, the problem child. Now, I'm quite sure he got at least one personality disorder (it began looking like ASPD but then sometimes it also looks a bit like NPD, but way more ASPD) and trauma. He also got a terrible rotten personality that seems more of a result from trauma than from the personality disorder. He just, puts so much effort sometimes in being a little shit. Enough that it always ends up catching him even after a thousand of chapters. Haejoon tries to be patient sometimes, they learn to get along, but Haejoon got a lot of social trauma. And Eunyung is the social man. Charming, good at speaking with people, but once one learns how bad he can be? They can't trust him anymore and it bits him on the ass enough that by chapter 100 whenever Haejoon and the third boy can't find something or suspect he did something, they just take his bag or enter his room and even mess with his phone regardless of his No's. The worst part is that 20% of the time, they end up right. I honestly feel bad for the blondie, committing mistakes bad enough that people can't respect his stuff as his. Well, fuck. The times that Haejoon thought Eunyung would tell to people about the ghost seeing and hurt where he was the most vulnerable like the other kids... Eunyung is truly a people person even in his perception, enough that he can't differentiate him from his past bullies.
I could probably talk a lot more about Baek, but Juwan Park brings a bit of "family that had the money and actually took care of its kids" vibes to the place. He also pointed out at least twice how Baek is pretty bad at empathizing. Juwan appears later, so i won't tell much, but he's way more than a nerd. He's also a good person! When he have all information. Haejoon gives him some pushes into getting along with his mom, but ooooof i've never seen such a painful arc in matters of triggers. If you want to learn about triggers, that's the arc for you.
Marie Kim appears way later, you will love her, then hate her guts, then love her again very much. She's such a lil shit, but she's also such a sweet person! And strong as fuck, considering what she goes through. It's great that her aunt is there to advocate for her! At first you might think "oh, she wants to go to dorms to laze around!" but honestly, she deserves to laze around as much as she wants. When she enters the friend group, she's the best of all.
That because I haven't mentioned Hara Kang, the abused pushover with helicopter mom who turned into a powerful lady. We don't get enough of Hara Kang, honestly. Heck, and Minju Gong too! Minju isn't the best girl, but her mom is (finally an alive mom who is best girl). Miyung is the girl with the prettiest smile of the comic by the way.
Unfortunately, the comic haven't ended yet so I can't scream about everything, but you can bet you will love it if you read it! I also suggest spreading around the word, not many people know about it. Sometimes the ghosts disappear for one or two arcs, and then they come back just as chilling. The characters themselves feel very like people to be quite honest, and you might find yourself being tricked by Eunyung's sweet smiles and "No, I didn't film you/stole from you", but still keeping loving him and the others with all of their flaws.
And if you are the type who only likes innocent pure characters without a single flaw, you might still like it! But you will suffer, and it will be for your own good.
