  Definetly an improvement of the first season, but if you didn't like the first, you will probably not like the second.

  Kyokou Suiri intrigues me.

  I generally stay away from the mistery genre as a whole, because i honestly don't like it how some mistery stories are good in its development, but then reach a Deus-Ex Machina climax. So my starting motivation to begin watching this anime was that i thought it was a romance anime with some mistery bits.

  Kyokou Suiri (In/Spectre) got me hooked to it despite being a mistery anime because of the way it works. The first season served the purpose of setting the basis of how it is not a story about finding the truth, and rather about finding a way to logically explain the events that ultimately were caused by "impossible" phenomena. It was a hit or miss for most people, and i guess one of the misses was how late it's story develped. It wasn't until the latest episodes of the first season that we get to the "main" story about these characters (the confluct between Iwanaga and Kuro, and Kuro's cousin Rikka).

  In my opinion, second season improved on this. We get more misteries than in the first season, and although Rikka wasn't directly fighting them like in season one, she is always one step ahead of the main characters, presumably setting up the next conflict that will probably be featured in the next season If it happens.

  Another great part of this season is how it didn't stop going deeper into the characters. If at first we think Kotoko is the good angel, Kuro is the bland uninteresting character, and Rikka is the evil, by the end of the second season we begin to see how Kotoko is kinda impervious to human issues, tending to side with the "order", and that maybe Rikka is right when she says to Kuro that Kotoko is far scarier than she is. And we also see that Kuro isn't just following Kotoko everywhere, and is building an opinion on her.

  And of course all of this happens as a subtext of whatever mistery is being worked on currently. It felt to me that the writing has improved, as each mistery in this season is filled with creativity. They don't follow a formula at all, and the very motivation of solving each mistery is very different from the others. We even get misteries that the only supernatural involvement was as a witness. And these are the most intriguing, as we get to see how Kotoko operates as a human for humans.

  Finally, I really liked the comedic parts, it greatly freshes the mood sometimes. Although, it is very troublesome to see how they insisting on making Kotoko as a very perverted character, while she looks (not only to us, but to the characters in the show) as a middle schooler. But Japan likes pedo jokes, i guess...

  If I have to say what I didn't really like, i guess it is that there isn't a "main" mistery in this season, like there was in the first one. Some might think that it could have instead focused more on the main story. While i disagree, i can certainly see the point in this kind of claim. Also, while i advocate for the improvement of the quality of the individual stories, some of them are less interesting than the others (for me, the Pinnochio one made me pause the show for a few weeks before i could finish it). Lastly, the show doesn't make an effort to fix some of the issues of the first one. There is way too much dialogue, and even with the illustrative animations that help visuallize what is being talked about, it is sometimes exaustive. Also, it feels like there are some parts that are most likely lost in translation to me. To end the bad sides, the romance, which was the reason i erroneously begun watching this, is still not the focus of the show.

  Overall, i really think that if you liked the first season, you will like this second one. At least to me, every good part has improved, and it felt the direction was more focused than it was in the first season. If you didn't like the first one, i guess there isn't much reason to watch this second. Still, i'd say give it a try. It is definetly better than the first season, so maybe it is better enough that you will like it.

  Highly recommend to someone that's into mystery solving, the supernatural and that little bit of gore/horror

  First of all, I am happy they came out with a season 2, the first season was a great watch. However I feel like this season might not be as good as the first one, don't get me wrong I loved it but It just didn't hold my attention as much as season 1, they seemed to go a lot more into the psychological part of the anime especially with the Otonashi incident. That was a good episode or 2 of just talking, it wasn't bad but it was hard to stay focused at times. Speaking of that section of the anime, it may have been in more than just that part but the quality seemed to take a nose dive especially when the the view was a bit zoomed out. Forgive me if I get some of this wrong since I took a break in between the first and second half, but the first half was the highlight in my opinion, the incident involving the wooden doll had both aspects that make the anime good, mystery solving as well as the little bit of action we get sprinkled here and there throughout both seasons, it also introduced new characters that were actually built upon, instead of them just appearing without much backstory. The yuki-onna incident as well was built well, it provided good backstory as well as keeping things interesting even throughout the solving part. It was great to see side characters actually get so in depth unlike what some more recent anime have done. The haunted apartment incident was a pretty good start, it provided some information on Rikka as well as being its own mystery to solve, speaking of Rikka she seemed to disappear in the second half of the anime, she was mentioned a couple times but I thought we were going to see some more of her and maybe build upon her story a little, but it seems that will have to wait for season 3 if that happens to come. All in all I would highly recommend this to someone, especially someone that is into mystery solving, the supernatural and a little bit of gore/horror. It's a good anime to just sit back and watch and do some thinking, It can really captivate you when everything starts coming together and the big reveal is about to happen, it makes you feel so understanding when it all wraps up and the mystery is solved. I do wish there was a bit more action like the fight scene in season 1 with Iron lady(forgive me if thats not her name its been awhile) but it still did have a couple action scenes here and there which is always cool to see especially in this type of anime as its not these big flashy battles but rather calculated and supernatural type fights.

  To summarize; Good anime, you do need to be focused to follow the current event or else you will miss some key information. Great if you are into mystery and supernatural anime, it wraps up nicely, unlike me. The animation quality does tank sometimes but in the end it's still up there with season 1 if you liked that.

  In/Spectre is such a let down, even for mystery enjoyers.

  In/Spectre - The Supernatural Mystery Letdown

  TL;DR - In/Spectre as an overall anime, both seasons one and two, were an honest letdown. This isn't going to just be some rant about how I dislike the show(s), I want to use this thread/post to help any potential future watchers not get told about the shows "amazing plot", just to be let down as much as I was. The concept behind the show/manga definitely is something interesting, but the series just missed the mark with such the lackluster storyline, and easily forgettable characters.

  A more detailed/information based look into my review; In/Spectre is a mix of mystery, and supernatural with some dabbling in romance between the main characters. After watching both seasons, I can confidently say, they were just so far off with it's pacing, story, and characters. For me, at least, it definitely left a lingering taste of bitterness towards it.

  Starting off with one of my biggest issues/complaints about the show, and why I think of it so poorly, is the character development. In every good story, there needs to be good character development to keep watchers engaged, and interested in the characters themselves. There needs to be a sort of, feel, to the characters. Something that sparks well with the watchers, such as myself, and I really think In/Spectre disregarded this idea completely. The main characters Kotoko Iwanaga, who I will refer to as "Kotoko", and Kurou Sakuragawa, who I will refer to as "Kurou", throughout the manga, and both seasons, have stayed almost completely the same as when the series started. There isn't a deep dive into them as characters, or to their personality or motivations, which makes it hard to care, or even remember them after a while after watching. After watching the anime, or reading the manga, you'll easily forget their names, because they just aren't doing anything that can leave anything in the viewers heads. For example, we all know and love Mai Sakurajima. Why? Because her character changes so much throughout the entire BGS series. The characters are dynamic, there are certain attributes to the characters that keep you wanting more of them. It's not the case at all for Kotoko or Kurou.
  Continuing on with another massive issue with the anime, is it's pacing and narrative. The series progressed at the pace of a fallen acorn, being rolled around by wind speeds at 1km/h. While some people MAY dig this style of content progression, it really does not hook well with people who enjoy a faster paced, more action filled plot. In/Spectre's story feels, empty or small. Low stakes, not enough interesting characters to add spice. It's just too much of a linear progression story over anything else.

  I can however, give this anime props for good voice acting, amazing art styling, good music, and clean animations, but all of those pros just cannot cover the cons. Uninteresting characters, unengaging plot, terribly slow pacing, and an overall static storyline.

  In/Spectre definitely is a good watch for people who enjoy slower paced shows with little to no change in the story, or characters, but for those who enjoy more action, or a quicker pace in general, should steer clear of this show. They might give mystery enjoyers, or supernatural enjoyers a little belly tickle, this series ultimately falls far from the title of greatness.
