50/100The poor man's jjk. But funContinue on AniListThis is like the poor mans jujitsu kaisen, it's a story about a vigilante exorcist with powers too strong to control on his own who has to rely on new friends he's slowly beginning to make in search of his master who helped him become the expert he is today. It's not as wishy washy as it sounds though I promise, I know how cliche that comes across to anyone
It isn't as dark as jujitsu kaisen but it doesn't shy away from gore and violent battles which I personally think are much more graphic than jjk could ever hope to be. Plus the gore is detailed and nice and not just blotchy inky messed on paper which is a huge thing I hate seeing in manga. It seems like a cheap way to make things look gritty with less effort and detail. It's just not fun to see and I feel like jjk is very guilty of this
It's chock full of nods and references to various movies as well as internet culture, even making weird nods to things like aeromorph which is furries but for planes and air craft.
It doesn't take itself very seriously and it's obvious it takes inspiration from the films you see referenced throughout the manga. It's very cliche and cheesy when you compare it to the films and media it takes ideas from but it's done in an endearing way that doesn't take itself too seriously whatsoever.
The tongue in cheek delivery and playful nods are a saving grace that keep this series from wrapping all the way around becoming just another mediocre clone of x or y.
It reminds of me of those B movies that everyone knows are bad but can't help but enjoy anyways because it's just fun to indulge in. It certainly isn't anything special but it's a good time regardless, I like to read this when I'm out of things to read or just need a break from overly serious manga.
The elements of Sci Fi being merged with supernatural themed is also interesting, though very hard to read and take seriously but I think that plays to its strengths more than detracts from the overall story. It leaves a lot of room for new and interesting powers and weapons which I quite enjoy.
The art is pretty good too, which I honestly didn't expect. It's a bit ecchi though for no reason but the girls are hot so I don't mind it.
I recommend this to anyone into dumb fun manga that's just meant to be enjoyed or maybe you just like movies. The chapters also list off the references made at the end but the translator will sometimes miss some so it's cool to see something that he missed. I recommend interacting with the community around this series as well the translator is a cool guy he deserves some love.
This isn't an endorsement to pirate either. There's just no way to read this series in any language but it's source language right now, just a disclaimer to be safe, and I'm not telling where any are. I just hope to see it get licensed or something if they notice theres a market for it.
