DESCRIPTION

Workaholic, Natsume, misses the last train of the day on the same day that another office worker, Miki, misses it. They end up going to a business hotel nearby, but end up staying in the same room. For Natsume, who is used to working through a computer, staying in the same room as someone else is a first and he finds it extremely difficult to get through it. Especially with the friendly and bright Miki, who tugs him into the bed with him as they spend the night in the room together. When the next day comes, Miki tells Natsume that he’d love to see him again…?

A chance encounter one late night after missing the last train – could this be the start of a new love?
I don’t only read garbage, no siree! Today I got a great piece of work if you enjoy wholesome content and good art. Welcome to The Last Train/Saishuu Densha.

Story:
Basic story is we have our main characters, Natsume and Miki, meet for the first time after they both miss the last train for the night. Natsume having worked overtime that night while Miki was out at a drinking party. Afterwards they both decide to stay the night at the same hotel, but due to a lack of vacancies they decide to share a room. Don’t worry, there’s two beds.

After this night they eat breakfast together and Miki offers to meet up again with Natsume for dinner so they could become friends. Natsume is a tad socially withdrawn so he believes it’s just lip service. This in addition to Miki suddenly cancelling their plans due to another meeting, Natsume begins to think that he could never truly be friends with Miki because they’re so different.

Later that night we find Natsume barely making it on time for the final train. With a mind filled with thoughts of Miki, he jumps off of the train at the last second, thinking that Miki would be there on the platform. Discouraged when he finds the platform completely empty, he suddenly hears a voice calling for him from behind. He turns around to see Miki there, who is also shocked to see Natsume alone on the platform. After a brief talk, they both reveal their true feelings to one another.

I am not lying when I say that this scene made me weep tears of joy. They then stay the night again at the same hotel and probably just hold hands when sleeping. This’ll be all the story that I will cover specifically for now, really only chapter one. I want to really talk about more but there’s not so many chapters so go ahead and read if you can.pssst they finally boink one another in chapter 3 Characters:
Starting with Natsume, I personally find him cute and endearing. I can relate to his feelings of helplessness when it comes to matching up with someone you want to befriend. Also, his looking forward to their basically first date had me feeling so soft for him. Later on, in chapter 3 when he tries his best to make it to a date despite being sleep deprived from overwork he's also super soft.

Look at him. I know he doesn’t have the widest range of emotions, but I just find every small action very cute. It could also just be my personal Bland Boi boner. Moving on…

Miki is like a good mix of optimism but also subtle possessiveness. He dotes on Natsume but doesn’t fall into the major bad traits of toxic semes that I hate. Specifically here I’m talking about those that become super controlling and don’t let their partner even breathe without them there to watch.

This reminds me of like 10 other BL I wanna talk about in the future. Man, we’re gonna have a fun time...

Art:
I have many favorite authors which I’ve read over the years. Natsuo sensei in particular has this great soft feel with their art. You feel warmth, you feel comfortable. Her sense of bodily anatomy is so normal when placed next to the likes of say Romantic Love Insect Poison, you’d think they came from alternate dimensions or something.

But not only is the fluff content through the roof
the sex is also really nicely drawn. What can I say? I really love it when an author can do fluff but also smut. Oh and the nipples are done very nicely.

Story – 9/10
I highly revere this manga, but due to me only reading the first three chapters, I can’t give it a complete 10 just yet. Based on the first three chapters at least, that’s a good solid 9 for sure. What is that like a B? I hope once the last of it comes out, I can come back to this review and confidently raise the score.

Characters – 8/10
Some may find them boring depending on what they want in their Boys’ Love. Personally I love boring mundane shit like taking naps, going to aquariums or riding trains so this hit the perfect spot for me. Others may want more dynamic plots but also remember that there’s only 1 volume for this baby (sensei pls write more I’ll be good I promise)

Art – 10/10
The art I feel was absolutely perfect for this type of story. Nothing too gritty, nothing too sharp. Just the right amount of soft to not go into Ori Mita territory (another soft author that I love and hope to review in the future as well)

From my limited knowledge, The Last Train is Natsuo sensei’s debut work and I’d say that she did great with it. I hope to see more of her work in the future as well.

Train – 9/10
The inclusion of trains was well done, but I wished for maybe some more scenes with them riding the train together. Nearly one train in every chapter, so some good content. Sadly no further detail into the train itself, so not a perfect 10.

Final Notes:
The scanlation group that was putting out chapters for The Last Train/Saishuu Densha closed up shop just this year (July 2019) so sadly there probably won’t be another chapter release soon. I don’t communicate with groups or keep up with all the multiple BL-centric scanlation groups on the interwebs so here’s hoping another group remembers that it exists and picks it up.
