85/100a much improved serie to watch its in a nice in between qua stlye you are gonna love it if your a fan of xy/xyzContinue on AniLista much improved serie to watch its in a nice in between qua stlye the only issue i have was the beginning what dragged a little to long but i was worth the wait i highly recommend it if your a fan of xy/xyz also it
it does bring suprises i love they moved away from the games a bit
the animation is fantastic moves look great
the music is sweet and for intance is the vinquez vs ash fight where gengar defeats raichu those music hints are great.i really they keep this trend going its of making this serie unique
now dive into the characthers
ash: ash has changed dramaticly for the better he did not get reset his characther is the ash we love a battle hungry boi who is charming to hear and always goes for it a much needed improvement and he is more consistent
go:he is intresting and has a unique goal to catch mew but because of that he misses the bigger picture the pokemon he has (iam not spoiling who for anyone who has not scene it) does not wanna catch pokemon pokemons but rather battle but go does not understand it the characther is great to see nicely designed just like ash.
it also has great flashback moments and instead of running it on that flash back they embrace it as a motivation what is genius
the champion leon is nicely encoperated and does his jobwith the next view episodes 22 and 23 and prob 24 bein instresting i really hope its good and stays consistent
and iam so hyped to see this futher improve i might resay some things but for now there is not much to say1 issue i find glaring is till ep 12 i moved like a snail as still has not got his goal and go well catching mons i not really that intresting till 12 there was a ton of filler some good some bad
there is 1 more thing the girl forgot her name its a nice backstory but honestly they have barely given her development
so little i dont even know her name for some unkown reason it feels that they focus on ash and go (what is amazing)
so much this girl does not fit in the story for now at the very leastthe rating and conclusion
85/100 seems fair serie is not over and will be continue to watch it
with the next view episodes 22 and 23 and prob 24 bein instresting i really hope its good and stays consistent
and iam so hyped to see this futher improve i might resay some things but for now there is not much to sayi will do this again at the end when the next anime is anounced

90/100So far, the series is on par with XY. Why? Let's talk about it for a bit...Continue on AniList---Thoughts on the Pokemon (2019) anime as of now--- Oh man, Pokemon is an absolute childhood memory. And to this day as of current, I can't believe I am saying this, but Pokemon has seen the best daylights ever since XY.
My History with Pokemon Now, I started watching Pokemon all the way back when I was 6. I luckily had a VHS that had some episodes of the very first Pokemon, and that was the only information that I had with the series, I didn't knew anything else, I was enjoying the episodes as they were, and I would like to replay them again, but sadly, I don't have the VHS with me to this day.
Fast forward to 2012 - 2013, I started checking out Pokemon Black and White. Let me be honest, that was one of my first guilty pleasures. Back then, I enjoyed Black and White. Plot-wise, it was standard forward. Visual-wise, it was interesting. I absolutely adore the Meloetta arc, it really got my taste of what Pokemon can be, a funny kids shot, but with some serious moments. And that is a formula that the series always follows. Things can turn up to be funny, only then to be discovered that there will be some serious moments.
However, it wasn't until 2014 when I discovered Pokemon XY. My god, that was a different change of an atmosphere. Pokemon still manages to keep up with the same formula, but in a more-so serious way. Now note, if you want to have a certain anime to get interesting, you better spice things up. That is exactly what XY did. Story, plot, characters, battles, I could go on, but I might wanna do a separate review on that someday.
Same goes for Sun & Moon, and let's be honest, we didn't like Sun & Moon at first because of the art style. It was a completely different style that felt awkward to us at first, but we then got used to it when some heated moments started to burst. To those that think that Sun & Moon is NOT canon, I'm sorry to say this, but it is, and it honestly should. In some ways, I find it better than XY, actually.. both are equally even in some parts.
Now, I didn't first watch Sun & Moon back in 2016 when it first came out, I had other stuff to do. But it was until this year of January when I got back my interest to this series when I did a re-watch of XY. And I jumped to this and it became one of my favorites at an instant. It felt unusual to me, but I got used to it when I reached a few episodes in. I really underestimated Sun & Moon.
I would like to watch Advance, Diamond & Pearl and the rest of the movie, but that'll take a while.
I'm kidding, I just wanted to have SoL and Romance to be one of my top Genres, I'm trying guys, trust meNow, let's talk about Pokemon Journeys.
Pokemon (2019) is worth watching? For the most part, I would like to get a few things out of the way. Let's talk about the 1st episode.
The 1st episode travels back when Ash was 6 when he went to Professor Oak's Pokemon Camp. (Yes, the Pokemon Camp where we got a bit of back history with him and Serena in XY Episode 7) But instead of Ash, we focus on Pikachu, when he was a Pichu back then. Pichu actually had an interesting past of his life. He befriended a Kangaskhan. They ate food together, played together, and even had some trouble together. It was only brief, but Pichu decided to be strong, and eventually, would end up with a family like Kangaskhan and the child. With this, he evolves into Pikachu, and makes his first few moves. Thus, the very 1st episode of Pokemon was set.
This would also be the time where Gou and Koharu would appear and... yes, they appear in the same camp that Ash was suppose to go to,
but of fucking course he wakes up late and starts running in his PJ's because he's Ash, the lowsy boy that he is.When both Gou and Koharu ended up wandering around the forest to find Pokemon, the two of them eventually find Mew, and seeing as how Mew is happy with himself living his life, Gou sets a goal for himself and that goal is for him to catch Mew.Episode 2 would be the next set-up for the show. This is where Ash and Pikachu head out to go to Vermilion City where the newly opened Cerise Laboratory would hold an introduction to the lab. However, the program would be quickly interrupted when signs of a Legendary Pokemon would start to appear in the Vermillion Port. We'd eventually see Gou at a far distant land where he could eventually wait for the Legendary Pokemon to arrive. (Spoiler alert, it's Lugia). Then a raid battle would start to commence as trainers who arrived at the port started to battle Lugia, but surprise surprise, they end up failing. Eventually when Ash started fighting it, it would start to set off, thus both him and Pikachu would follow, and eventaully, Gou would follow too, with the both of them managing to arrive and the two being shocked seeing one another on a Lugia. Their meet would become friendship when the two of them arrived back at the lab with Professor Sakuragi would ask them to become official fellow researchers. Without hesitation, the both of them agreed. And the stage for Pokemon Journeys was set.
Now take note on this, their goals are still the same as ever. Ash wanting to become a Pokemon Master while at the same time, see the entire world, which was a goal that he set up on the second to last episode of Sun & Moon. And Gou also wanting to catch Mew, although, he realized that Mew might take a hard time to catch, so instead, after episode 5, when he caught Scorbunny, he decided to catch every Pokemon until he has them all to start catching Mew.
I'm saying this right now, what they set up is worth the watch. However, if you are not a fan of those episodic episodes that they set up (Well I am a fan thanks to Bokuben, Kaguya-Sama and recently, Working and Saiki K.), then this might not be for you. I mean, it's a show meant for the kids and the whole family, so it's kinda obvious that you might not like it. But is worth it, when it gets to there serious moments. I kid you not, they always set up those certain moments and it gives me the CHILLS.
Art is something that is still looking good for itself, especially after Sun & Moon. And the visuals are the same as ever, not really much to say right over there. For the most part of the characters, they are great, side characters as well, and who the hell would not like Team Rocket? They've been on the midst of trying to capture Pikachu ever since they first fought with it, and they are still trying. I appreciate this quad. Gou is indeed one of those great companions out there, the whole cast of characters that appear as Ash's companions in Pokemon always bring something to the table. (With some being interesting, while others... just act like filter, I hate to admit it.).
And I'm a man that enjoys the Seiyuu's best work when it comes to anime, and if you REALLY think that an anime like Inu x Boku or Demon Slayer had the all stars of seiyuu's, allow me to show examples of seiyuus that are in Pokemon.
(If you click, this list will be long)
- Ikue Ootani voices the love-able mascot that we all know. She also voices Morgana from Persona 5.-
We all love James for who he is thanks to Shinichirou Miki. Let me also remind you that he plays Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kaiki from the Monogatari series, and Takumi Fujiwara from the Initial D series.
-
Fan of Kenta Miyake? Well, he's been playing Giovanni since Diamond and Pearl. He also plays All Might from My Hero Academia.
-
Despite appearing once in the series, Hiroshi Kamiya also voiced a role for the Advance series as a sub role. With him also voicing Takashi from Natsume's Book of Friends, Koyomi from the Monogatari seires, Izaya from Durarara!!, and Saiki from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
-
Jun Fukuyama also appears in the Advance series as well, also voicing other sub roles. He also voices roles like Lelouch from Code Geass, Joker from Persona 5, Yuuta from Chunibyo, and Koro-Sensei from Assassination Classroom
-
Guess what? The same goes for Masako Nozawa, who voiced Goku from the long running Dragon Ball, and also Doraemon.
-
Miyuki Sawashiro also appears once in the Diamond and Pearl series, with her also voicing Kanbaru from the Monogatari series. Celty from Durarara!!, Elizabeth from Persona 3, and Sinon from SAO
-
Surprise, surprise. Aoi Yuuki voiced Iris from the Black and White series. She also voices Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Yuuki from SAO II, Tatsumaki from One Punch Man, and Tsuyu from My Hero Academia
-
The same goes for Mamoru Miyano, who voiced Cilan in the Black and White series as well. He also voiced Rintarou from Steins;Gate, Ryuuji from Persona 5, Koutarou from Zombieland Saga, and Rin from Free!
-
Minako Kotobuki also appears in Black and White as a sub role. She voices Mizuki from Aikatsu!, Mugi from K-On, and Mitsuko from the Index/Railgun series (Well, if any index/Railgun fans remember her in some form)
-
Fan-Favorite Yuuji Kaji also took a role in Pokemon playing as Clemont in XY. It's kinda scary cause he also voices Eren from Attack on Titan. Not just him but he also voices Issei from High School DxD, Shuu from Nisekoi, Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins and Shouto from My Hero Academia.
-
There is also Clemont's sister, Bonnie, who is voiced by Mariya Ise. You all mostly know her for her role as Killua from Hunter x Hunter.
-
Daisuke Namikawa also plays a part in Pokemon, playing as the Rotom-Dex from Sun & Moon. He also plays Hisoka from Hunter x Hunter, the infamous Yu Narukami from Persona 4, and even the crazy swordsmith that is Hotaru from Demon Slayer.
-
We also have Kaito Ishikawa also playing as Kiawe from Sun & Moon. He also played Sakuta from Bunny Girl Senpai, Genos from One Punch Man, Naofumi from Shield Hero, and Tobio from Haikyu!!
-
Daiki Yamashita takes the part of playing Gou from the Pokemon (2019) series. He also plays the main role that is Izuku from My Hero Academia. He also played Narancia from Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: Golden Wind
-
The famous seiyuu, Kana Hanazawa, also plays a part in the Pokemon (2019) series. Do I even need to list some of her roles down? She plays Nadeko from the Monogatari series, Anri from Durarara!!, Charlotte from Infinite Stratos, Akane from Psycho-Pass, Mayuri from Steins;Gate, Onodera from Nisekoi, and a whole lot more..
-
The legendary baba, Youko Hikasa takes part as well, playing as Bea. You obviously know her for playing that one sexy chick from High School DxD (that being Rias), but she also voices Mio from K-On, Houki from Infinite Stratos, Shino from Setokai Yakuindomo and Steph from No Game, No Life
-
We also have Daisuke Ono playing as the champion Leon as well. He also plays Shizuo from Durarara!!, Itsuki from Haruhi Suzumiya, Jotaro from Jojo, Riki from Saiki K, and Kuroh from K.
Yeah, that's a whole lot of people if you ask me. If someone is also willing to tell me that either some of the long running shows also had a lot of the famous seiyuu's feel free to message me about it.
I honestly grew up with English dub, but I've gotten so much used to the sub that I can't even remember what the dub sounds like anymore. But I did take a glimpse from it and it was pretty alright.
But yeah, Pokemon so far is seemingly getting better and better when the series progresses. That alone shows how far Pokemon has come. A grand total of 1000+ episodes in total, being one of the long time running anime in japan, alongside One Piece or Sazae-San. Here's to hoping that the Pokemon World Championships be as good as the Sun & Moon's Alola Leauge.
If it fails, it'll automatically get a 70 or lower. So far, it gets a 90. But the tables could turn when more episodes come in. This is not a final review, this is only temporary, the opinions could change depending on how the series progress.
Welp, I spent a whole 3 hours making this review, I need some sleep. I'll probably do my review on XY or Sun & Moon some other time soon. Only time will tell when I have the zest and drive to make another one.
Childhood memories do take me back to those days...

70/100Fun Journeys, Memorable DestinationsContinue on AniListComing off the heels of one of the most controversial seasons of Pokémon yet, Pokémon 2019 later titled Journeys continued off the trend of Sun & Moons with an updated character design for Ash while keeping the same more rounded art style. Along with that it was revealed that this season wouldn't take place solely in Galar and that we'd be jumping around regions back and fourth, I suppose with how bad Sword & Shield were doing in 2019 everyone including myself was ok with this. Alola was fun but the island theme did get a bit tiring near the end and this was a great idea to mix things up. It also allowed for Journeys to have one of it's most appealing traits with having characters from the games who've never appeared in the anime before show up for the first time, multiple fan favorite characters, and Ash's own Pokémon returning for some episodes. The Pokémon anime was taking more strides to make this new season feel unique and fresh and regardless of how I feel about the results I admire their effort to take big risks like this with the anime. So three years and 136 episodes later and I really enjoyed Journeys, it's another solid set of Pokémon episodes that I think almost anyone could enjoy. Majority of Journeys episodes are a mix of the episodic slice of life type episodes from Sun & Moon mixed in with Ash and Gou going to different regions and it's a really good mix, it allowed for more simpler laid back episodes to have more creativity to them now that we weren't stuck to Alola's islands. They even acknowledged Shiny Hunters which honestly still has me surprised now. Not to say that all of them hit it out of the park but a majority of these episodes are very enjoyable.
Ash himself is fairly interesting this season, since he's no longer stuck to one region his team could have damn near any Pokémon now. And while I'm not the biggest fan of his team having three Pokémon from Kanto I eventually grew to really like this new team of his. Gou at first annoyed many people including myself, he seemed to only exist to cater towards only Pokémon Go/Pokémon Let's Go fans and continuously caught Pokémon throughout the series with little to no effort made catching Pokémon feel very boring and dull. Though overtime when he finally had his main three set of Pokémon being the Galar starters, Gou's character really starts to pick up then. As much as I prefer Ash over Gou seeing his relationship grow with his Pokémon was very heartwarming and entertaining, I should probably point out that I may also have a giant bias towards feeling this way because Cinderace is my favorite Pokémon and I just want to see more of Cinderace. Koharu was enjoyable off the bat and like with Gou her progression was just as good to watch, I do wish she didn't end up with an Eevee since we already have so many other main characters with one but I can't deny it's always interesting to see what trainers will evolve their Eevee into it. Starting off with the more story driven episodes, the Sword & Shield story with totally everyone's favorite villain Rose. And like in the game that story still sucked ass here, though I think that's more of Sword & Shield's fault for not coming up with a better story then it is Journeys fault for using the only material they had. If Galar had a better story in game then we would've had a much better story in the anime. Though the Pokémon anime did continue the trend of Sun & Moon of having the best story arcs in the anime with episode 111, even now this is still one of the best Journeys episodes and one of the best closures I've seen to a character arc, beautiful episode.
But getting into the main dish now, the Pokémon Masters Tournament. Instead of having Ash go through the eight Galar gyms he instead partakes in one worldwide tournament to determine who the best trainer is. Another great way to change things up while keeping it familiar enough for newcomers, but to jump ahead here why did Ash only fight two Galar gym leaders in this tournament? Out of the ten Galar gym leaders Ash only fought two Bea and Rahian, the others only show up for the more laid back fun episodes or in Piers case to support Marnie. You can be fine with that but to me that is nothing but a major downside, especially when they could've easily just made Ash fight eight or all ten of the gym leaders for the tournament only. I don't know about you but I don't want to see Ash fight generic trainer number 5000, I want to see Ash fight trainers I recognize from the games. Still even with that disappointment lingering the build up to the Top 8 was overall pretty enjoyable, we got to see a ton of old faces come back and even saw Ash get handed a couple losses here and there. The episodes used for solely training Ash's Pokémon for a future fight were honestly always underwhelming, they felt too predictable even for Pokémon standards and sometimes the battle in the next episode wouldn't even be worth the wait. I definitely prefer when Pokémon would learn a new move in the heat of the battle, it feels more natural and surprising that way and we wouldn't have to sit through a twenty minute episode just to see one Pokémon learn one more. Though once we finally got to the Masters 8 I couldn't give less of a shit for the build up.
When this image dropped it was nothing but pure hype, arguable the character who gave Ash his most infamous loss along side six other champions. This is a Pokémon fans dream and it was finally becoming a reality, so many fights that felt like it would never happen could finally happen now. Ash vs Alan rematch where he doesn't get robbed this time, Ash vs Champion Iris in an all out battle, and the one Pokémon even hyped up themselves with a trailer Ash vs Cynthia. This was going to be huge for the Pokémon anime and despite how I feel overall about it, I cannot deny that it was but this is also where I'm going to become very negative on Journeys as a whole. To put it bluntly majority of the battles this season were complete dog shit, I feel as if they were given the most basic thought on how the fight would go out and they just weren't very fun to watch. We rarely got those unique moments where Ash pulls out a wild trick from no where, and the animation quality for most of the fights were very underwhelming of course with some exceptions. And I feel this is at it's worse with Ash vs Cynthia, the one they went out of their way to make a trailer for. I'm still a bit salty with how underwhelming that battle came out to be, it had it's moments but it could've and should've been so much better then what we got. And these unsatisfying battles kept on happening even throughout Top 8, only a small handful of them I could pick out and say they were above average. Maybe I had my expectations too high or have been spoiled from better anime fights but I wanted to be more excited for these battles, I didn't feel this way with Sun & Moon. I only started to feel underwhelmed with Sun & Moon's battles when the Pokémon League started. Thankfully though like Sun & Moon Journeys really saved itself with it's grand final battle, Ash vs Leon. Specifically the final episode to that fight 132, it's no secret the internet exploded that day when that episode aired and even though I was spoiled on the winner it never mattered once as the fight and animation quality was nothing short of the best the series had to offer. A perfect way to end off the Masters 8 and Ash's character, though for some reason Gou in the final episode still roots for Ash to become a Pokémon Master? Hasn't he achieved that by defeating Leon? What the fuck even is a Pokémon Master at this point...
Whether or not the show considers him a Pokémon Master will be found out before the Scarlet & Violet anime comes out. I hope that with the Scarlet & Violet anime we get higher quality and more memorable battles, and my second biggest complaint with Journeys we actually stick to one region this time. This may seem a bit weird since I said earlier above that I overall liked this change up and I still do, but not when we almost completely ignore at the time the new region. This is a "hot take" but I absolutely adore Sword & Shield, it's the most fun I've had with a Pokémon game since I was a kid, even with how much the story sucks I would confidently put it in my top three Pokémon games alongside Platinum and Black & White 2. So I was and am even now still very upset that we never got to see all the new characters and Pokémon from Sword & Shield in Journeys. I have definitely lost a bit of that frustration now but when Journeys first started any episode where they weren't in Galar I was just upset they weren't in Galar, I really just wanted to see Ash interact with all the new Pokémon and characters from Galar. The Pokémon anime has made me appreciate Pokémon and characters who I thought nothing of before and I was really looking forward to experiencing that again with Journeys. Not to say I never did but it definitely wasn't as much as I feel it should've been. I apologize in advance if I'm misremembering and get the wrong information here but important characters from Sword & Shield like Bede, Milo, Nessa, Kabu, Gordie, Melony, Mustard, Klara, Avery, Peony, and Peonia never show up.
It's thankfully not as bad with the Galar Pokémon but a majority of them are downgraded to just being in the background or having very minor roles in episodes, we never saw Kubfu, any of the Crown Tundra Pokémon besides the Galarian Slowking and the new Regi's. I'm not expecting every single new Pokémon to have an episode dedicated to it, but I would've appreciated more of an effort to show off the new Pokémon that we were still learning about at the time. But I feel they really fumbled with not having half of the gym leaders in the anime to me that is another Major downside, Bede could've been the new Gary and could've been a huge asshole to Ash. The Gallade trainer Rinto who ash lost to once was cool, but I feel Bede could've fit his role so much better. I also haven't brought up much of Gou's whole story in searching for Mew as to be perfectly honest with you, I kinda don't care much for it. It never really fully interested me, I cared more for the Koharu episodes then the Gou ones. Gou was there just so I could see Cinderace. Besides the lack of Galar and battles being underwhelming, those are my only major issues with Pokémon Journeys, overall this was a very solid season and any other issues I'd have with it would I'd consider them to be minor. We got to see a bunch of familiar faces, a ton of great comedic episodic episodes, the conclusions to Lillie's search for her Father, along with Ash finally achieving his dream of becoming a Pokémon Master and the start of the end to his story that's been going on since 1997.
Now can someone please hold my hand through making an Anilist submission?? I tried making a Cinderace one two years ago and messed up but I think if I do it right it should go fine now... hopefully.
Edit: Used to be a 8/10 but I'm lowering it to a 7, why? Because Horizons is cooking
