100/100I have never been more addicted to a series than this one. I pretty much read it in ONE SITTING. 10/10.Continue on AniListI will start off this review by saying, I don't think I have ever been more engaged in a series than A Business Proposal. I read all 102 chapters in under 8 hours, and I even read it while I was getting my teeth checked at the dentist. It was THAT good. I think I had only stopped reading it to do basic things before quickly continuing to read it.
A Business Proposal revolves around Hari Shin who is your typical office worker who needed her job to assist with her families financial problems. Her closest friend, Seojin, finds herself being tied up into another blind date set up by her dad, and begs Hari to go for her in her place. Denying instantly, Seojin offers her money to compensate, to which Hari eventually accepts, under the conditions that her and the blind date won't have to meet again.
Hari's CEO, Taemu Kang, was in a similar situation to Seojin - his grandfather constantly booked him blind dates with girls the CEO would found uninteresting each time. Determined to get his grandfather off his back, he decided to marry the girl he would meet for this blind date. No matter what.
When the time had come, Seojin helped Hari change her makeup style along with a bright bubblegum pink wig to hide her true identity. When Hari went to her blind date, she was known as Young Seojin, the daughter of a company, not Hari Shin. Hari's goal was to make her blind date very disinterested in her so they would never have to meet again. She pretended to be very experienced in "it", saying she would be capable of satisfying both males and females alike. When the CEO formally introduces himself as, well, the CEO, Hari is quick to regret all of her actions, trying her absolute hardest to end the blind date as soon as she can. Howeverrrr, doesn't work at all, in fact the CEO actually becomes quite interested in his blind date and wants to meet her again. As the protagonist now holds a big secret, all a reader wonders is how the secret is going to be revealed so the story can progress. Personally, I think the reveal and how everything played out was fantastic. It was really entertaining seeing how the CEO was able to figure out that Hari was the secret individual but kept it hidden from her, almost to "play" with her. But what's even better is seeing the CEO eventually fall for Hari herself for who she is!
The series is filled with romantic scenes giving various forms of butterflies to your stomach, whether it be Taemu's jealousy, desire to be by Hari's side, or even the wonderful kisses they share.
There is a lot more to the series: Taemu's grandfather approves of Hari herself, Seojin falling for Taemu's SECRETARY(!!), and even some newly introduced characters causing some love rivalry to form! The series to me was so good, I can't even describe it into words. It's one of the most addicting and captivating manhwa's I've ever read. Just read it for yourself and you'll understand!

78/100It's more than just a business proposal, it's a marriage proposal! From someone you barely know!Continue on AniListThis was a major roller coaster. I checked it out, because a bunch of people in my life are super into the K-Drama, and my online bestie, Yeni, had me start this for Good Manga Club (not to be confused with Bad Manga Club, where we read things like Vampire Knight, Abandoned Empress, and On the Emperor's Lap). My opinions on anything and everything in this manhwa changed so much in ways I didn't expect.
Ha-Ri Shin is an office worker who's struggling financially and trying to help keep her family's small business afloat. One day, her well-off best friend, Yeongsuh Jin, asks her to take her place on a blind date that her father arranged. All she had to do was disguise herself as a femme fatale and ensure that the man never came back for a second date. Ha-Ri agrees, only to find that the man Yeongsuh was supposed to go on a date with was none other than her new boss, Taemu Kang, who hates deception and wasting time. Taemu, like Yeongsuh, is also being pressured into going on blind dates and he has decided to marry whoever is on the blind date, no matter who it is to save time and get back to his precious job as soon as possible.
A Business Proposal is insane, but it's usually in an effective and entertaining way. It's super dramatic and over the top at times, but that's what makes it endearing. My just could be exhausting for me from time to time. There were a few too many love triangles and misunderstandings that dragged out a bit too long. It just could be a bit frustrating for me as the reader, especially since I just wanted progression. I'm usually fine with love triangles and miscommunication/misunderstandings, but for some reason A Business Proposal was really testing my patience with these tropes. Maybe it was how sometimes the characters just refused to communicate?
That's not to say that I disliked the story. I found some of the love triangle plots to be engaging, even though I already knew who was going to win. The love triangles at least had some sort of purpose to help clear up previous misunderstandings between the various couples. It has a strong balance between soap-opera-esque melodrama and realistic situations. The romance took some time to grow on me, but, by the end, I was rooting for both main couples, and I was happy that Ha-Ri's younger brother found happiness. Also, the comedy, particularly in the earlier chapters, really hit it for me. Ha-Ri's practicality and common sense and Taemu's comically serious and stubborn personality meshed in a way that really suited my sense of humor.
As for the characters, my opinions on them changed a lot over reading. Ha-Ri was one of the characters who was easier to like in the beginning. She's got honorable goals, she's kind, and she's caring. She also doesn't want to be pushed around, and she's a bit stubborn. She didn't want to let Yeongsuh and Taemu's actions destroy her life and career, and she takes the steps that will best benefit her family and others. She's very practical, and she was one of the characters who was easiest to like. However, she has a tough time communicating with people, and her refusal to communicate with others ends up causing problems. It's a perfectly normal character flaw, it just kind of annoyed me.
Taemu, on the other hand, didn't get off to a great start. He begins inflexible and pushy, since he constantly tries to get Ha-Ri to enter a contract marriage with him, and he initially refuses to listen to anything she has to say about it. It just bothered me how he wouldn't leave her alone or respect her opinions. He just kept pushing things on her that she wasn't ready for and didn't want to do, like marry him after a single blind date. He also starts making her pay him in exchange for kissing him or pretending to be her boyfriend, but it just feels like extortion, and it's extra weird since he's extraordinarily rich and she's dirt poor. I didn't know what to make of that. But somewhere down the line, he really starts to get his act together. It's so subtle that it was hard to notice at first, but by the end he is a better man who is deserving of Ha-Ri. As he becomes more attached to her, he becomes more considerate of her wants and needs. He tries to figure out how he can make her happy, and he becomes much more respectful of her. I appreciated how it was very gradual and slow; not some big moment that changed his perceptions, just because it felt more accurate to real life.
The other couple we are introduced to are Yeongsuh and Taemu's secretary, Sunghoon Cha. Yeongsuh began the story as a completely insufferable character. She's extremely selfish to the point where she wants Ha-Ri to take the fall for the chaos that ensues after the blind date, despite Ha-Ri being significantly less well-off than she is (and Yeongsuh is wealthy without any of the financial struggles Ha-Ri's family has). She cares much more about her own happiness than Ha-Ri's. She's happy to go about her merry way if she gets what she wants. However, she does care about Ha-Ri, and she did grow on me as it progressed. Much like Taemu, she had subtle growth where she became a more empathetic person. She is still a selfish person, but she does care more about the people around her, likely due to the influence of Sunghoon. Sunghoon also grows as a result of his relationship with Yeongsuh. He's essentially Taemu's personal assistant, and he feels obligated to do everything he asks. He's generally a kind person and very empathetic, but he's a bit too empathetic. Yeongsuh helps him learn how to stand up for himself and the things he cares about. I really appreciated him the whole way through, and I loved their relationship.
The other side characters are a mixed bag. My personal least favorite is Ha-Ri's crush, Minwoo, who has a lot of entitled "nice guy" vibes. I was indifferent towards him in the beginning, but the more I learned about him, the more I grew to dislike him. I've met plenty of guys like him in real life, and I am not a fan. Yeongsuh's rival was a bit less realistic since she seemed to exist only to create conflict and compete with Yeongsuh. The family members were great. I have mixed feelings about the grandpa and how he essentially manipulated Ha-Ri and Taemu, but he is an endearing character who just wants to cause drama. I love the way his life turned out in the epilogue. Ha-Ri's parents weren't important, but her brother, Hamin was a compelling character with a lovely arc in the epilogue. I also loved the new office manager, but the new secretary got on my nerves.
As for the art, it was very appealing. The character designs are way nicer than I was expecting from an office romcom. Ha-Ri and all the girls are beautiful, and all the men are attractive, too. (There are some scenes that are pretty clearly intended as fanservice for women.) It's just very visually pleasing.
I really liked A Business Proposal. It was quite the ride, and I'd be willing to experience it again. It could just get a bit exhausting for me with all the misunderstandings and love triangle drama. The characters are great, even if some of them are/begin as the most detestable human beings in human history, and I enjoy the complexity and character development. This manhwa is popular for a reason, and I highly recommend that anyone who's interested should check it out, especially since it's getting English physicals!
