20/100Great premise, terrible executionContinue on AniListThe manga started off very interesting, but as it progresses, it starts to go downhill. The plot twists happen too close to one another, the characters become less interesting, and by the final chapters, it rushes to resolve everything too quickly.
In the first chapters, the manga feels like it’s heading in one direction with its genre—what seemed like a survival gore manga. However, at some point, it turned into a simple shounen, with the gore toned down significantly. By the end, the characters honestly don’t feel that important anymore.
The abrupt ending, from what I’ve learned, is due to the manga getting canceled, so it had to start wrapping everything up quickly. While that explains certain things, it doesn’t excuse the overall drop in quality.
Some spoilers here
One main issue I had with this manga was the Russian girl. She was captured multiple times by the Buddhas, yet they never killed her. Other characters were killed instantly, but with her, they always decided to hold her and wait. The part where the Buddha fortune teller says he chose Yamato because he was a twin doesn’t make sense to me. Why did the doctor got his tie pin to time travel then?
The crazy scientist was just that—crazy, and nothing more. This leads me to another issue: why couldn’t they kill him so he wouldn’t create all this mess for the Buddhas in the future even if he had the tiny Buddha?
How was the tiny Buddha that the crazy scientist found dead? They could only die through the Odd Genius, but at that point, it hadn’t been created yet. This was never explained.
The addition of random ecchi scenes felt completely out of place. It was unnecessary fan service that came out of nowhere.
I can honestly see why the manga got canceled—it started with great promise but didn’t follow through. Talking about the gore again, the first kill was an amazing showcase of how gory the manga could be, but that was it. That scene was the goriest of all and served only as shock value for the reader. Nothing that gory or close to it ever happened again.
When the Odd Genius appeared, I had my doubts but decided to give it a shot. However, it got worse when every character suddenly had the ability to use it when they explain that is was rare for it to work. What made it even worse was that, thanks to it, every user gained super resistance and healed much faster so it became the typical shonen manga. Yes the battle scenes are very good, detailed and all but the tend to get to long, pages and pages of the fight with little to none plot miving forward, if I am not mistaken I think there is a chapter or two with nothing but fight scenes and zero plot progression
The art is, by far, the best part of the manga.
