DESCRIPTION
In a world haunted by dangerous supernatural forces, there are still some problems you can't solve no matter how much spiritual power you have. And a good thing too--because phony exorcist Reigen Arataka doesn't have any!
But that's never stopped Reigen from running a ghostbusting business...and his new part-time office assistant is none other than Tome Kurata, a girl obsesssed with the strange and unxplained--and the schoolmate of Reigen's protégé, Shigeo "Mob" Kageyama. Yet whereas Mob's incredible psychic strength resolved many a case for Reigen, Tome is as powerless as her boss! Or so she may think at first...but if there's one thing a master scam artist knows how to teach, it's the power of confidence and belief!

70/100Not only does Reigen make a prominent return, Tome does as well.Continue on AniListPlease note This review is all subjective and my own personal opinion. You do not have to agree with it, nor am I asking you to. I hope that this just helps you get an idea of what the manga I am talking about is like and form a basic and general consensus on it. The ratings I give anime and manga are mostly my personal overall enjoyment. This review may contain some spoilers, but all of them will be hidden using the spoiler tag. There will be some images sourced from the manga, but they should not be any major spoilers. TL;DR will be at the bottom. Introduction In the manga Mob Psycho 100: Reigen, we are brought back to the world of Mob Psycho once again, experiencing the tales of Reigen and his ghost hunting business. Taking place shortly after the ending of Mob Psycho, we see the lives of the side characters of the series for seven chapters.
Plot The title of the manga leads one to believe the plot will be more or less around Reigen and his business. To some extent, that is correct. Whilst Reigen is a main character in this manga, it would be fair to say that Tome takes a more prominent role in the manga. Much of what happens in the manga is from Tome's perspective.
It all begins with Tome on her way to school, who on the way sees a girl rushing to school with bread in her mouth. This kind of event felt reminiscent of the original Mob Psycho manga, and was nostalgic in a way. Soon after, we are quickly brought back to Reigen's world of 'ghost hunting', which felt quite at home. Most of the plot is around Tome and her encounters with spirits, as well as other troubles Reigen's business always seems to find itself in. It is hard to put into words as to what generally happens in this manga, but it is alike to the day to day happenings that appear in the Mob Psycho manga. If you were a fan of that kind of stuff in the manga, then this might appeal to you too.
Overall the plot was nothing I can say special. I have heard some say the plot is not a strong point of Mob Psycho, and I can see why. Something similar could be said for this manga I suppose. The plot was engaging enough to keep me reading and entertained, but it was a far cry in comparison to other stuff I have read. There were not as many plot developments I could recall, or any being significant enough to remember. Honestly it was a little forgettable for me.
Pacing wise given the short duration of the manga I felt that it was done well. Things did not feel rushed for the most part and flowed well enough. It was a short read and did not take me long to complete.
Characters There are not many main characters in this manga, which is to be expected given its length.
__Tome is one of the protagonists of this manga.__ As I have stated before Tome is one of the more prominent characters of the manga. This manga takes place soon after the ending of Mob Psycho, so she has retained all of her development that she obtained during the course of that manga. That said, she still gets some development here, which was great to see. As a character, I found her to be less annoying than her iteration in Mob Psycho, but that is likely to be a result of retaining her development that she had obtained from the previous manga. She was more of a likable character here and was an engaging character to read. Not a bad protagonist to lead the story.
__Reigen, a fan favourite, makes a return.__ I have seen that Reigen is quite popular, and it is easy to see why. His personality is quite likable, perhaps one of the most in the entire Mob psycho series, and contributes a great deal to the manga. Despite lying about having psychic abilities, he is still a strong character in his own right. Whilst his development in the series may not have been as obvious as the other characters, it was still well implemented. He does not get much development here, but it was not really needed. He was a good main for this manga, and I was happy to see him again. Fans will most likely enjoy him here too.
__Katsuya also makes a return, which a somewhat major role.__ We were not able to see the majorly changed Katsuya in the original series, but in this manga we are able to see just how much he has changed from his old days. I liked his changed character here, it was nice to compare his character from back then to now. Whilst he is listed as a main character I think it would be more fair to say he is more of a side character. He takes more of a supporting role in the story, helping the main two out with his powers if needed. It would have been nice to see more of him, but it is what it is.
Despite Ekubo being listed as a main character, he does not appear much at all in the story. His role is quite minor, but it was not bad to see him again. Again, it made me reminisce about Mob Psycho.
Other than the characters I have mentioned above most of the other characters are quite minor and I cannot remember too much about them. There was that one guy who is somewhat significant and forms a relationship of sorts with Tome, but he appears a bit later in the story. He was nothing bad, but a little bland.
Just do not expect much of Mob.
Art and Action The action of Mob Psycho is arguably one of its strongest points, so it would be fair to assume that some action has made a return in this manga. There was not as much action as the Mob Psycho manga, but there was still some present here. I did not find it to be on the level of Mob Psycho, but it was still nice to see. If you were a fan of the action present in Mob Psycho, chances are you will like it here too.
The art is similar to the style present in Mob Psycho. Some might not be a fan of the art, but I was able to look past that. There were some really good scenes drawn in this style, and it was decent here too.
Conclusion and TL;DR As I find myself at the conclusion of my review, what have I really discussed here? At the end of the day, this manga could almost be called a sequel. It is heavily implied that it takes place soon after the ending of Mob Psycho. I did not find it to be at the level of Mob Psycho, but it was still a decent read. I can imagine this being a good read for Mob Psycho fans, those who just want a little bit more. It is a short read, and will not take one long to finish it. To summarise the review:
- The plot is in a similar style to Mob Psycho, taking more of a similar style to when Mob and Reigen was spirit hunting in the original manga.
- The plot was engaging enough and paced well to keep me reading, but a little forgettable.
- The cast of characters will be familiar to those who have read Mob Psycho, and are as likable as they were in the original series.
- There is not too much character development here, but enough.
- The art and action is reminiscent of Mob Psycho, so if you liked it in that manga, you will most likely enjoy it here too.
That brings us to the end of the review. If you want to send me feedback on my reviews, please post a comment on this thread. Hopefully you were able to get something out of this review. If you did not like this review, then I apologise for wasting your time.
