Descent into Insanity
Tomogui Kyoshitsu is... is a death game manga by Yusura Kankitsu (story) and Yuu Sawase (art). Perhaps the king of all death game manga in a way. It is... it is vile. Absolutely rotten to the goddamned core. And not in any of the ways that I expected it to be from knowing that it was a death game series supposedly centered on cannibalism.
I would have loved a series about cannibalism. Just show me pages and pages of pure fucking viscera. Of characters eating faces and organs. But no, that's not what this series does.
You know what? Fuck it. Here's a pie chart of everything that's contained within this series.
That's a shit pie chart but the point is there is barely any cannibalism in this manga that's supposed to be about cannibalism. It's just uncomfortable sexual scenes as well as just rape.
The death game itself was never really on any rails from the start but the moment they go off of them, the school just becomes chaos and there's like rape gangs and one student starts a cult so he can rape and then there's this one girl who controls nerds with her looks but one of the fatsos betray her and she tells the remaining one
"PROVE TO ME THAT YOU ARE LOYAL. YOU MUST DESTROY WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU."
and then the fatso immediately racks his brain, trying to figure out what's the most important to him. His conclusion? His mom. So then hard and immediate cut to
Rape. So much goddamned rape.
him raping his own mother on the commands of the popular girl who is there watching and… yeah.
I feel as if I’m a fucking criminal psychologist picking apart a crime scene. Like I absolutely want to get through this particular section of the review as quickly as possible but this being one of the needlessly foulest things I’ve seen in a manga that I’ve reviewed, I have to… analyze it.
Because I have several issues with it.
Number one, due to typical death game bullshit, the adults in this manga essentially do not exist. They are just fucking nowhere to be seen. No teachers in the school, no parents… and the manga repeatedly says that adults just for some reason don’t fucking notice the death game happening. Doesn’t matter if students die, doesn’t matter if shit starts exploding, they are just completely blind to it.
Like there’s even a scene where rather than be shown a conversation with our main character and his mother like being ignorant of the death game instead, she’s just not there at all. But she made breakfast for him. And you think maybe, she’ll be there one of the other days and we’ll get that scene of them talking.
Except, the artist, didn’t feel like drawing her. "Like oh, I’m gonna draw this guy’s mom for what like one scene? FUCK THAT, DUDE. “
although she does appear for ONE PANEL in the very first chapter but that’s it, she’s permanently a breakfast-making ghost from that point on“Her ghost giving him breakfast is good enough to get the point across that the parents just can’t see this shit happening. Or possibly, I didn’t actually know how I would effectively depict a parent essentially completely ignoring the clear fear of their child since going to school could effectively result in their death or losing various organs and/or limbs."
Even though that would have been way more interesting than her just ceasing to exist.
Yet… just like a bit away from the ending… a parent actually does blink back into existence and gets thrown into the fray of this manga and her sole contribution is… horrifically… getting raped by her own son. So… the spirit of the death game is actively banishing any and all adults from the perimeter of the death game… unless rape is involved?
...There’s so much more vile and disgusting shit to this manga but this was like the cherry on top that really just made me feel 100% disdain for this author and artist and whoever decided this series was worth printing. I promise that once this section is brought to a close, I will rein back my current emotional tone and just proceed to absolutely rail at the shit writing of the manga,
which will be a lot less agonizing. But first, as much as I would like to move on from this already, I can’t just skip past all of the other instances of rape or attempted rape because they are just… foul, unpleasant, and completely unnecessary.
Like I’m sorry, but in this situation where you might end up dying any day, should rape really be a priority? Like is there really any reason why apart from the creator wanting to shoehorn nudity in there for the contestants of a death game to just suddenly go “hey let’s commit a rape/go on a raping spree”???
Especially in this one since it’s supposed to be about cannibalism for god sake. And yet as the game is approaching its inevitable end, there is a fucking actual no joke rape gang roaming the halls of the school hunting down females to rape.
Like the former head of the gang while he was still alive at least had his head in the game and led the gang to just violently securing his required vaccine when needed.
But the moment he dies, his number two immediately converts it to a rape gang. No hesitation whatsoever. “From now on, I’m in charge, and all we’re gonna do is rape.”
Apart from the rape gang, you also have… the sex cult. If you really want to be technical you could maybe argue that it’s not rape? However, everything that the son of a cult leader tells all these other girl characters about being cured of the death game as long as they receive his… his """"""blessing"""""", is of course bullshit. So...
- He completely lied to them and brainwashed them.
- They're wasting precious time just having sex with him as any of them may actually become really infected within the game since it's still very much going on.
- When one of them realizes that it's all bullshit, the others as a result of being indoctrinated via bullshit immediately kills the dissenter.
- When he becomes infected, he immediately attempts to use the sex cult as pawns to try and secure his vaccine not giving a single fuck if any of them died.
...Thinking about it, yeah I'm fine with calling it a rape cult. And then like the only surviving member of the rape cult is just still around in the school and still fully indoctrinated and she ends up crossing paths with the rape gang and well I don't really have to go into the details of how that encounter ended up, do I.
Now let's rewind a bit and talk about an attempted rape that happened much earlier in the manga. One of the other girls was gonna help her friend basically murder one of the scumbags of the class because that friend's vaccine was his lung. Nao was gonna distract the scumbag by taking off her clothes and her friend was gonna come from behind and stab him to death. Because you know, considering the vaccine was an entire lung, it's not like he could just give that to them voluntarily and still be able to live.
However things go awry because as it turns out, the friend faked the email and instead her vaccine is Nao's lung. Not the scumbag's. However, she wants to get as much out of the situation as possible so she wanted to have Nao be raped and record it so she could make money off of it on the internet AND eat her lung.
But she underestimated the scumbag's power as his friends emerged from the bushes and proceeded to begin raping her. Nao on the other hand managed to break free and...
...and get saved by the male protagonist. Actually, he didn't even save her. He just happened to be there. The death game itself did all the work.
Well, that and rape.It JUST dawned on me that this implies that rather than immediately chasing after Nao, the main scumbag stayed behind to rape Nao's friend with his buddies at least once. And she then proceeds to immediately be in love with him because he
saved her from being rapedjust happened to be there. One of my least favorite things is a completely shoehorned romance. Below that is a romance that is kick started via an attempted rape.Keeping track of how much time has passed in this manga is a pointless and wasted effort, but it's only been like a couple of days (?) since the protagonist watched the girl he liked end up being the first to explode to kick off this death game.
Yet he just immediately shifts and loves Nao since she's decided she loves him and... like somehow, the sex scene...
...Actually thinking about it, the reason why I'm thinking of the sex scene between them as foul just like all of the rape/other inappropriate sexual scenes is because there was a clear moment where the scene could have ended and like their relationship could have been established while being half as less... gross. Like both characters are hurting and vulnerable sure, but they didn't immediately have to have sex. Them deciding to find comfort in a terrible terrible situation by being together does not necessarily need to lead into them immediately having sex. Or even if it does, we do not have to be shown it.
"but we have to have nudity in the manga! nudity is required!!! NUDITY. IS. REQUIRED."
Like today she was almost raped (and probably would have been raped by his friends as well following, and then because she would catch the Sexually Transmitted Death Game, she'd just fucking die too) as well as betrayed by one of her closest friends who then proceeded to die as well due to not getting her vaccine. Sex should be the farthest thing from her mind and yet...
Ugh.
Worthless Death Game Protagonist
I don't even remember his fucking name. Nor am I going to look it up. Because it doesn't even matter.
For a brief part of this manga, I thought it was actually going to do something clever for a death game manga. This was very naive thinking on my part I admit, but due to how the manga just completely shifts away to other students of the school after the main character finds out that his other female friend brutally killed Nao and ate her entrails because it was her vaccine… I thought okay, our worthless death game protagonist is fucking done.
That his part in the manga was just completely over with. Like he lost the original girl he liked, he lost his best friend, he totally fell in love with this second girl whom he saved from being raped, but bam, his other female friend just goes full yandere and crucifies and disembowels her.
“There’s no fucking way he’s coming back from this.” ~me, an idiot
And it’s eventually revealed that the protagonist is only kept alive after this point in the following days because the yandere girl is protecting him like a hawk even though he’s completely and rightfully lost any remaining will to live. So as we get to the real meat of the manga where just essentially full on war erupts within the school.
One student is armed with a pistol, a crossbow, and has like a whole classroom fully trapped with razor sharp wire… another student is capable of making homemade explosives… and don’t forget the various other straggler groups of students that just resort to violent brute force.
How is this protagonist of this death game manga ever going to survive??? He’s… gonna get protected… by a yandere character. You know, rather than do anything himself to earn his survival on his own. Cool. But you know the idea of being forced against his will to continue surviving through this horrible and grisly situation has potential!
...So I wasn’t even remotely surprised when the main focus of the manga did shift back towards the protagonist guy’s direction. One of the groups that formed after the class was completely divided as a result of this chaotic fucking death game all end up requiring a vaccine from the protagonist. Specifically, his bones.
And while logically you would think hey there’s five of them, maybe they could just ask the protagonist for one of his hands. Four finger bones and a thumb bone. Actually, they wouldn’t even need the whole hand. Just the fingers and a thumb. Or hell, leave him both thumbs and just take a fifth finger instead.
Instead, they decide they’re gonna take both his arms, his legs, and his ribcage. Granted the leader of this group has a grudge against the protagonist because of the death of his rival who made himself look good but in actuality was a piece of shit who microwaved a cat to death…
...but anybody with a brain should have questioned this plan she issued.
Like… I think fully consuming a finger bone would be hell of a struggle in itself. But an entire rib cage??? I mean if we’re talking about the ribcage, why not an individual rib for everybody??? I mean sure he'd still die in that case but you could very easily acquire five bones without having to literally saw his entire body apart.
I’m… getting off track again. The point is that the yandere girl steps forth as they’re about to go brutally murder the protagonist and instead ends up killing all four of them. Which in itself is stupid because really?
You had the advantage of numbers and you still got wasted by the batshit crazy girl? Granted, she already had a taste for murder because her mom was prostituting her to older men so she…
...Holy shit I completely forgot about that part until just now. I should have included it in the rape/inappropriate sexual content section, FUCK....There’s also this weird thing that keeps happening to crazy/violent characters that hints there’s also supernatural bullshit influencing the death game and my memory is already fading of this manga as an act of self-preservation, but I’m pretty sure it was happening to the yandere girl too.
So like she was able to kill a whole four
(one ran away)other people who were armed to kill (granted the person they were gonna go out and kill was the worthless protagonist who literally had no fight remaining in him whatsoever but) as a result of a deus ex power up handed out by the death game itself whenever it feels like it?Like she doesn’t even die from the wounds of fighting this entire group but because the round this happens in has a special rule. If you touch an infected person, you too become infected. And literally no other round has had this rule and they weren’t informed of this rule, they had to find it out themselves which is what of course directly led to an entire group’s deaths.
But anyways, the yandere blows up thanks to the death game, and the protagonist just happens to have Nao's phone and it pops up with a birthday message except it's not the birthday she told the protagonist and...
...the point is that he finds a secret message in her diary left by Nao and it's like "if I happen to die, don't just become a mopey fuck and instead keep trying to beat the death game, okay?" pretty much.
And just that alone is enough to immediately reset the protagonist's character status from depressed and completely broken to bright eyed and hopeful.
"What's that? There's a literal fucking 100% out of control cannibal on the loose in the middle of the death game and is just outright killing and eating people? Corpse in the woods? LET'S FUCKING GO CHECK IT OUT, DUDE."
...The proper thing would have actually been to just kill off this fucking guy and just focus on the death game spiraling further out of control and the chaos of the school. Or hell, have the glasses friend who is infinitely more of a valuable character take protagonist status.
But nope! This guy survives to the very end of the death game while having contributed literally nothing.
I mean thankfully the spirit of the death game literally says it doesn't fucking matter that he won and found out the mystery of the death game because it's gonna stick with him as it wants to play another game...
"Yeah cool, ghost kid. I love death games. Hit me up with another one. The only problem though is literally all of my friends are dead and I'm probably already mentally and psychologically fucked for life. So thanks for that. It's not my fault you were fed to me when I was a kid. I literally had absolutely no control over that sequence of events, you murdering and psychotic little shit."
The Fucking Worst Writing
I mean really I've been talking about this the entire review. But no this has to be among the worst written death game manga that exist. I cannot believe that there is much more room below this point that isn't just the outright ravings of madmen already lost to the void.
Like, there's Dead Word Puzzle I guess, but that's literally just gore. No plot.Like the reason why I've not even focused on the plot itself is because the series itself is like in a desperate rush to get to the typical death game horseshit. Like you have one page set in the future to serve as a preview of the cannibalism game already in progress which is by the way 100% and utter bullshit but I'll get to that in a minute... and then this is the fourth page after that.
Aren’t we moving a bit too fast? Our protagonist isn’t even at school yet and already BAM, there’s the death game phone notification. Maybe wait until he’s at the school? Maybe introduce some of the other students? No? We’re just jumping right the fuck in? Also not to compare every single other death game to Ousama Game, but how about explaining the fucking game first?
Even in Ousama Game when all the other students still think the death game is complete bullshit and fake, the phone messages they got had clear instructions. “Do this to this person before this time or you’ll be punished.” Additionally, I think there was also even a message everybody got to signal the actual start of the death game.
This? Oh, you’re infected (???) and your vaccine is this. The donor is this specific person, or it can come from just anybody.
There's only specific donors when the manga needs there to be a specific donor. It does at least include a time for when the round ends, but no indication of what’s gonna happen if you remain infected and time runs out. You could say that’s nitpicking as since the punishment is obviously gonna be death.Although, it doesn't even mention you'll be punished at all.But it’s only obvious to us, the reader. The characters on the other hand are rightfully going “what the fuck is this??”Which would be fine if there was somebody taking it seriously or… hell, as it’s eventually revealed, there is of course a student who has already done one of these games. But this is revealed way too late in the manga for it to matter. Like if you had already gone through one of these before why wouldn’t you immediately share this with the class? Sure, you don’t want them thinking you’re insane or maybe you’re just out for your own survival. But if these idiots descend into chaos and just start killing and/or raping each other, then that may have an impact on your survival.
Instead, they literally have to try and figure out the rules themselves. The obligatory first character to die because you can’t be a death game unless somebody dies very early to show the entire class that they’re in a death game dies just because the game’s already started and they don’t even know what the fuck it is yet. Then there’s another guy who dies just because he didn’t know it was against the rules to go off of the grounds of the school until the day was over.
This death game is so fucking poorly thought out and constructed that it’s forcing me to actually repeatedly praise Ousama Game. In Ousama Game for all the rounds, every single character was given something to do. Whether it was to have sex with this person, destroy your most valuable possession, etc. All the students had their own tasks when they weren’t doing like a group thing.
In Tomogui Kyoshitsu, like in every round, there’s typically only one infected person. And usually in the rounds we're actually shown, the vaccine is a piece of a specific person. So what this means is that essentially the rest of the class is safe and can just go fuck off for the entire day. This… this is horrible. Because I just couldn’t help but think well okay but what’s the rest of the class doing while this is happening? It just doesn't matter.
Nobody matters beyond the handful of characters beyond the ones that are just relevant to the current round and I feel like that’s a huge waste. No class contests to decide who gets cannibalized for the day, nothing. Additionally, the pacing is just completely fucked anyways so why didn’t they just make it where more people got eaten each day?
Instead, so much time is getting wasted on rape and sexual content that literally the spirit of the death game itself has to come forward and start killing characters itself so we can bring this shit to an end.
Like when the very first page of the manga is a look into later in the death game where the main protagonist’s glasses friend is stirring viscera in a stockpot, I was genuinely prepared for just a whole bunch of cannibalism.
But that shit never happens. Even beyond that one page we’re shown the glasses guy like getting a bunch of stockpots ready for the class to use because eating raw human meat isn't healthy for you.
But they never fucking use the pots once even though the beginning of the manga promised us we would see them cooking human flesh.
Hell, in one of the rare instances of actual full-on cannibalism that takes place, the yandere girl just straight up eats Nao’s small intestine raw. Are you kidding me?
"I’m just a normal high school girl and I have absolutely no qualms about eating human intestines raw! Salmonella? E Coli? Come on, that’s the talk of somebody who hasn’t tried the taste of raw human flesh before!!!"
Before we move on I do really need to hammer in that point about the pacing of this manga being fucked. Like one of the early chapters they’re having like a meeting to discuss the death game and the rules they’ve discovered and suddenly this caveman looking motherfucker who doesn’t even look like a highschooler busts in completely randomly, and gouges a girl’s eye out with a spoon and eats it. You know, after bashing the back of her skull in with a bat.
Other than the girl exploding at the start, this is the first bit of really extreme gore that takes place and it happens so randomly that it’d be a thing on its own but the round right after this one is…
You go from an eyeball to… fingernails??? You go from this fucking savage guy violently and brutally gouging a girl’s eye out with a spoon to… a girl letting a fat nerd fondle her breasts while she… rips his nails off??? Excuse me?
And I’ve already gone into how after the protagonist becomes depressed the manga just fucking spirals into chaos with the rape gang and the rape cult, but also that student who already played this game before… like she’s just converted one of the classrooms into a goddamned murder room as it’s just booby trapped to hell with piano wire and not only does she have a homemade crossbow, but she just straight up has a gun. And it’s revealed that it’s just from the previous game. She went and dug up the corpse of one of her friends to get it because she found herself in this fucking stupid ass game yet again.
Because you know that’s fair. That doesn’t throw the balance of the game off whatsoever. But hey it’s actually evened out a bit because one of the fatsos under “Ms. I Want You To Rape Your Mom”’s command just happens to know how to make handmade explosives.
Before we move on, there’s one final thing I need to talk about in relation to the godawful writing. If your death game takes place in a school, there’s always the issue of...
“Well, why don’t they just tell their parents or a teacher what’s happening??”
This is where a lot of just how fucking awful and lazy the writing is really shines through in this series. They should have just not acknowledged this issue and just carried on. Because that’s basically pretty much what Ousama Game did. I think in that maybe they did try to tell an adult one time in that but they just flat out didn’t believe them because it sounded fucking stupid as all hell.
“Help, mister police officer! If I don’t follow the phone’s instruction and have sex with my friend’s girlfriend, I will explode into blood!”
Like if they didn’t continually bring it up, I wouldn’t have even questioned it in the first place.
This is a death game series, that’s just how it’s going to go. Of course it’s unrealistic that they’re eating and raping people at school and not a single adult tries to stop it! You don’t have to fucking repeatedly go oh
OH THE SPIRIT OF THE DEATH GAME IS TOO POWERFUL, IT WON’T LET ADULTS SEE OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION AT ALL. SO MUCH SO THAT THE SCHOOL THAT HOUSED THE PREVIOUS EDITION OF THIS GAME IS JUST FULL ON ABANDONED AND THE CLASSROOM WHERE ALL THE MURDERS TOOK PLACE IS STILL COVERED IN BLOOD BECAUSE THE READER HAS TO KNOW THAT A DEATH GAME TOOK PLACE THERE AND THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THAT OBSERVATION IS IF THERE IS BLOOD EVERYWHERE.
And when the spirit of the death game is appeased, the adults are broken out of the spell and they immediately flock to the school because now the spirit of the death game isn't preventing them from doing so anymore. And I'm just picturing in my mind all of the parents' reactions to what's been happening this whole time as they carried on their daily lives.
"Oh, my son is dead... their classmates fucking ate my child's entrails... oh my daughter was raped and then a cannibalistic ghost possessing one of the other students fucking ate her."
And so forth. But you know I just don't understand why the ghost would even want to prevent like teachers and parents from getting involved? Like it's not like they could have done anything anyways??? If you didn't eat your vaccine by the time limit, your head still would have popped like a balloon. Additionally, it's not as if the spirit was targeting the students exclusively??? When they were still alive, they also wanted to play with adults as well as other kids so I just don't understand why...
...
...Why am I putting more thought towards this series than the creators did?
"The Spirit of the Death Game"
Before we conclude here, I feel it necessary to comment on... the mastermind, the one pulling the strings of this particular death game.
I'm pretty sure I railed pretty hard on Ousama Game for this as well, but can't we just have a tangible and physical antagonist? Ousama Game was pretty bad but it was still at the point where I could laugh at it. And if nothing else, the King's presence was kept to a minimum. I think maybe it was shown once during the anime and once for sure in the opening, but it never just directly appeared and fucked with the death game itself. Like it never directly killed anyone apart from when a student failed to do an objective or broke a rule.
It stayed out of sight and just sent the fucking phone messages like it should have. But the ghost of this series doesn't, and yes, it's a ghost. It actively and randomly appears throughout the series. Oh, there's this weird little girl in this photograph oh wait no it's gone.
And then some of the crazier characters see her, and their level of insanity just coincidentally goes through the fucking roof. And then as I've said, she just says fuck it at a point and just possesses one of the students and starts killing students and eating them on her own.
...Why even bother with the game if you could do this THE WHOLE TIME?
In the context of making a logical and sensible death game series, like... the game just stops mattering and even when it does still matter the antagonist is directly tampering with it since she's actively making characters act more insane and harder to kill??? Then when she herself descends onto the scene, it's just completely off.
In the context of the character herself, she's not concerned whatsoever with the game being sensible and obviously as the entire series shows us, her idea of a "game" is completely and utterly fucking warped beyond dimension.
She just wants to play. What we're shown of her life tells us that her idea of playing is violence and... and rape, of course.
And once she gets raped by two of the employees of the meat packaging plant, the employees decide to throw her into the meat grinder because they find her creepy because her reaction to getting raped by two adults is "hey can we play more?"
And then the meat got shipped off to schools and served to various children... we're having hamburger today... yay...
...There's so many problems with this. The whole point of horror fiction is to just repulse, disgust, frighten, and just generally horrify the reader. So like on paper, this antagonist is effective in the sense that yes, I was incredibly repulsed and disgusted by what I was reading. But...
- This only happened after everything else in the manga which pretty much all was just laughable typical death game stuff. Hence, this feels like it just comes out of fucking nowhere. So rather than actually feeling horrified in the way I should have been, instead my disgust went towards the creators of the series itself because the rationale evidently was... "well, the kid being eaten by all of the other kids would explain the cannibalism of the series sure, but what about all the rape? Wait, I got it! Let's just have the kid also get raped!"
- This should have been hinted at way sooner and been made way more of a big deal. It happens so late that it really does just feel a way to try and explain why she was doing all of the things in the death game. She got like a balloon doll thing at a Christmas party but the other kids popped the head of it, so that's why everybody who fails the death game has their head blow up like a balloon and etc.
- I get that the whole point is this ghost kid just wants to play with this death game, but the actual people responsible for her being the way she is are just fine. Like okay maybe the kids that were actively bullying her got wrapped up into the death game too, but what about her parents or THE TWO GUYS THAT RAPED AND GROUND HER UP INTO HAMBURGER MEAT???
- So I guess the characters in the death game are just in the death game because they were among those who ate this kid but... they had absolutely no way of knowing that they were partaking in cannibalism. That's a real great detail to just put at the end of your death game series. None of the characters in the death game deserved the fate they received because again, THEY HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THEY WERE EATING HUMAN FLESH. THEY WERE JUST KIDS EATING THEIR SCHOOL LUNCH.
- What reason was there for the ghost kid to wait as long as they did? Like why didn't she just immediately start haunting these kids in an attempt to "play" with them? You know other than... the creators just... copying Ousama Game and all the other death games... why does it always have to be high schoolers? Why not just full grown adults...?
- How exactly did the previous round of this death game where the gun girl is from end? Because the version we're shown, the ghost just comes forth herself and seems pretty intent on there being no survivors AT ALL. But she relents because the protagonist actually remembers her name. Was the ghost just a lot more passive the first time around or...???
- In addition to there not being a
PLOTreason to actively want these students dead since they didn't know they were eating the ghost kid, there's also not a reason to hate the ghost kid? Like she's literally the architect of this death game and eventually just actively starts killing people rather than just letting people die from losing at the death game itself... but she's also a kid who just was abused, raped, and ground up and fed to other kids. Like how am I exactly supposed to hate her as an antagonist after being shown all that shit? Like are you fucking kidding me? Why? Why shove that into the end of your goddamned rape filled schlocky gore death game series? - Also, compared to everything else about this series this is a trivial fucking complaint but there wasn't even a fucking attempt to explain how the ghost was sending the phone messages. Not that they could have provided one that wouldn't have been stupid, but the fact that they didn't even try is... telling.
___?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????___
Hi, everybody who just scrolled all the way down to the conclusion!
If you actually endured and read this review the whole way through, I'm sorry. I at least hope the secondhand exposure to this series you've just gone through is less damaging than my act of actually reading it and processing it directly.
To conclude, um... I would not recommend reading this series. The sole situation I could imagine saying otherwise is if you've already read a whole bunch of other death games and you're continuing to try falling deeper into this abyss as I am. But even then I'd probably try and talk you out of it. This one is just... it was just agony. Any hope of it even possibly being good died within in me the very first chapter, and even just laughing at it for being dumb wasn't a possibility because of all of the goddamned rape and sexual content.
Another "death" game manga I reviewed, Ikenie Touhyou, the main problem with that series was almost nothing of note happened whatsoever. It was just misery to read.
So what a joy that I read this where way too much happens way too quickly. There's gore, there's rape, there's... a little bit of cannibalism, and yet it induced just about as much misery within me. If not more.
It really just seems like the creator of this particular death game watched/read Ousama Game or a death game in general and just immediately tried to copy it. And ended up making something even worse, more nonsensical, and significantly less enjoyable. I just wanted to read a death game with cannibals and what did I get? Very little cannibalism and... and rape.
Good.So let's see... I did not enjoy this series on any level, it was agony to read, made me feel horrible and not in the way I want from horror, and I actively wish I hadn't read this.
So I'm going to give this series a nice shining 0 out of 100.
With this review brought to a close, I'm now off to go repent for my soul.
