DESCRIPTION
The second season of Amanchu!
Hikari Kohinata and Futaba Ooki have together found joy in many things through scuba diving and the most everyday of events. Hikari was born and brought up in a small oceanside town on Izu, and Futaba moved there from Tokyo, but the two polar opposites met at Yumegaoka High and instantly hit it off. The always-reserved Futaba found her perfect foil in the cheery and optimistic Hikari, and their friendship gave her the courage to take the first step and experience many of the smaller joys in life. She also took the Open Water Diver exam and passed, and now she has her sights set on the Advanced Open Water Diver certification.

70/100If you are not too particular about the inconsistency of its main theme then you can still enjoy at its best.Continue on AniListThe main theme of Amanchu is a mix of slice of life and scuba diving. It started off with Teko trying to discover the fun in scuba diving and adapt into new surrounding with new people. And the announce of Season 2 definitely a good addition of the sol series. However, when the time arrives, a lot of fans who first encounter this author's work is questioning the inconsistency of the show's theme, and I am one of them.
By the end of S2, Teko has gotten her Advance License (I presumed) and which is why the anime is titled Amanchu! Advance. However, to fill in the time gap, either Teko receives more training or explore marine life with the rest of the club. Till date, the octopus episode is one of the best as it present us the mothership of an octopus, a sad ending and a new opening. With that episode, we are introduced with a new character call Kokoro-chan. Kokoro-chan has things going on with Pikari which I will not spoil and in my opinions, some developments shouldn't exist as it does not fit Amanchu.
This is not the only problem I am facing, the switch between themes is one of the major flaw in Amanchu! Advance, first few episodes are within the topic of scuba diving but the next thing, we witness magic in a dream or dream from magic and it prolongs for more than necessary. While it is different from the usual slice of life series where cute (or not) girls doing cute things in different places, the sudden change in plot doesn't sound too great for me who is looking forward to see more chibi faces from Teko, Pikari and other club members, even our mascot characters are getting lesser screentime.
However, they make it up with good sound, animation and emotion, regardless diving or not. Thus, if I watch it in a episodic way, Amanchu! Advance isn't that bad as I first thought.
So, there are people who likes Amanchu! Advance and there are also people who thinks that season 2 is good enough to wrap up the series. I am more of the previous but I agrees that if they are going to hail from diving content to more fantasy episode, prompt us beforehand so that we can decide to watch or to stop.
Lastly, I prefer S1 opening than S2.
..
I can't save this review because there aren't enough words, thus I shall continue with a semi-ranting by questioning a conclusion which does not give us a complete answer of a certain dream. While I enjoy Amanchu with Flying Witch magical dream episode, I don't appreciate that much when comes to dream from magic episode. A high-school boy name Peter appears out of nowhere in front of the twin tail sister and brings her to his dreamworld. And the diving club advisory knows him, she tries to stop his action but he always disappear after a short conversation. The story continues where a lonely baby in a shrine receives mysterious power from a cat to create an ideal dreamworld, anyone who doesn't want to graduate will be guided by Peter to enjoy his stay. Then it is revealed that the baby at the shrine is abandoned by his mother but picked up again after a short while. Thus, the boy grows up and become a teacher in the school, who is the advisor colleague. Everything is a dream and but the dream is too real to make twin tail sister falls in love and student-zoned immediately. If you need a dream, why not stick to the ocean, at least it will be relevant. And the fact that when Peter and teen advisor meets in real life, when they suppose to develop further, they are back to Teko who is preparing for advance license. So the point is? Fill the episodes.
