DESCRIPTION
At first glance, Nura Rikuo seems like nothing more than a normal middle-schooler. In actual fact, he is grandson of Nurarihyon, master of a youkai clan. Having only recently resolved the hostilities between the Nura Clan and the Shikoku Yokai, Rikuo finds no rest as an ancient enemy of the Nura Clan, Haguromo-Gitsune, resurfaces. After 400 years of inactivity, Haguromo-Gitsune suddenly sweeps through Kyoto with overwhelming power.

70/100Want something lighthearted and nice, this is it. Want a well-written blow my mind anime? Look elsewhere.Continue on AniListTo preface this, a large part of this review is going to be similar to my review of the first part. I have to mention that I’ve got a gripe with school kid takes over the world based anime, and this one, gets on my nerves more than the usual. Just like my previous review, I’ll start with the bad, and end on a good note.Spoilers will be kept at a minimum, nothing ruining the show.
Firstly, The Bad:
This show follows the fate of Rikuo and the Nura clan after the events of the first season, he’s still ambiguously 12-13 years old, and is trying to lead his family. This season sheds some Light on the history of his family which wasn’t elucidated on in the first season, aaaand his father’s death was a real bummer. You’d expect the greatest of the Nura to go down a bit differently, given how both father and son took much worse injuries and still lived.
The plot continues to have gaps and loopholes, except this time it seems like they conveniently slightly change as the story progresses to coverup themselves.
The side characters are terrible at combat, unless they’re fighting minions. Most of the side character seem useless, they’ll have a whole lot of flashy moves and titles but when it comes to it they’re useless; in addition to that out of the whole onmiyoji faction only three are ever useful.
The Good (and not bad):
Like with the first one art continues to be absolutely gorgeous. Whatever made me love Natsume yuujinchou is present here with this one. I loved the variety in the Yokai, and how each of them have a small personality that makes them pop up. The interactions they have with each other makes the show very lively and gives those peaceful moments a happy feeling.
The school humans didn’t get much on screen time with this one, the romance and comedy were certainly toned down as the show took a more solemn air due to the impending doom and gravity of the situation. The show felt less childish than the first one with the addition of some not-in-your-face fan service, which is always welcome on my side.
I have to admit, the writer did learn from his mistakes in the first season, making this season a lot better. I loved the part where they show the history of his grandfather in his prime, and how everyone was back in the day. There were twists that I have to admit I did not see coming later in the show, which were a nice addition.
The premise of the story was pretty good (only, dulled by the mentioned bad points), that being said the fighting in this one is actually much better than the previous part, except for the last few episodes perhaps where they introduced some superfluous elements.
Overall, just like the first season, this one is a nice show to pass time, it’s lighthearted despite the more morose theme it takes, and rather entertaining. Certainly did not feel like a slug to watch. You don’t lose anything by skipping on it though.
